Those minimum parts target 1080p at 30 frames per second on Low. For the official 1080p/60 FPS High target, use a Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5800X, 16GB of RAM, and a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB.
The settings advice below starts with those official targets, then gives a safe way to tune a faster or slower system. Steam publishes the Low/30 and High/60 targets, but it does not publish a measured FPS cost for every individual graphics option, so per-setting recommendations are practical guidance rather than universal benchmark guarantees.

Can your PC run Expedition 33?
Compare your computer with the table from top to bottom. A machine that falls below any minimum requirement is outside the game’s published support target; a machine that clears the minimum tier should be configured for 1080p Low and a 30 FPS cap first.
Minimum-level computers
The GTX 1060 6GB, RX 5600 XT 6GB and Arc A380 6GB represent the listed entry GPU class. Pairing one of them with an i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 1600X, 8GB RAM and an SSD corresponds to the official 1080p/30 Low profile. The minimum listing does not establish a higher resolution, a 60 FPS result or a specific performance level on individual graphics options.
Recommended-level computers
The i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5800X, 16GB RAM and RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or RX 6800 XT 16GB correspond to Steam’s 1080p/60 High profile. If your processor and graphics card are close to this tier, start with the High preset at 1080p, then adjust only if frame pacing or sustained frame rate is unsatisfactory.

Systems between the two tiers
Many PCs will sit between the named configurations. Treat the two official profiles as bookends: begin at 1080p Low if your GPU is nearer the minimum tier, or 1080p High if it is nearer the recommended tier. Change one group of options at a time and test the same type of gameplay area after each change. Because no official per-option benchmark is published, this process is more reliable than assuming a particular slider always saves a fixed number of frames.
Why an SSD and 55GB of free space are mandatory
An SSD is listed as required in both the minimum and recommended specifications; it is not an optional upgrade for this game. You also need 55GB of available space according to Steam’s 2025 listing. “Available” means free capacity at installation time, not the drive’s advertised total size.

- Ideal for high speed, low power storage
- Gen 4x4 NVMe PCle performance
- Up to 6,000MB/s read, 4,000MB/s write
- Includes Acronis cloning software
- 5-year limited warranty
A 1TB NVMe SSD is a practical buying description because it leaves room for the game, updates and other files, but 1TB is not an official capacity requirement. If the game is installed on a hard disk, moving it to an SSD addresses a stated prerequisite rather than merely improving loading times.
Before installing
- Confirm the target drive is an SSD, not only that the PC has an SSD somewhere else.
- Check that at least 55GB is free on the installation drive.
- Leave additional headroom for downloads, patches and the operating system; Steam’s 55GB figure is the published game-space requirement, not a recommendation for total drive occupancy.
Memory, CPU and GPU priorities
Memory: 8GB versus 16GB
Eight gigabytes is the listed minimum and 16GB is the listed recommended amount. If your computer has 8GB, moving to 16GB is the clearest memory upgrade because it reaches the official recommended level. More memory alone does not turn a minimum-tier GPU into a recommended-tier GPU, but insufficient system RAM can make multitasking and frame-time consistency harder.
Graphics card and VRAM
For a minimum build, compare your card with the GTX 1060 6GB, RX 5600 XT 6GB or Arc A380 6GB class. For the recommended target, compare with the RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or RX 6800 XT 16GB class. The listed VRAM capacities—6GB at minimum and 8GB or more in the recommended examples—are part of the named models, so check the exact card variant rather than relying only on a GPU family name.
Buying a card in the recommended class is aimed at 1080p High/60, not a published 1440p or 4K target. The official listing does not provide resolution-specific targets beyond 1080p.
Processor
The minimum CPU examples are the Core i7-8700K and Ryzen 5 1600X; the recommended examples are the Core i7-12700K and Ryzen 7 5800X. Before replacing a processor, verify motherboard socket, chipset support, BIOS requirements, cooling and power delivery. A CPU upgrade that is electrically incompatible with the existing board will not satisfy the game requirement, regardless of its benchmark position.

Recommended settings for a 60 FPS target
Use this procedure when your hardware is near the recommended CPU, GPU and 16GB memory tier. It is a configuration method based on Steam’s official 1080p/60 High target, not a claim that each option has been independently benchmarked.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Set the display resolution to 1920×1080 (1080p).
- Select the High preset as the starting point.
- Play a representative section and watch sustained frame rate and frame-time consistency, not only a brief peak.
- If performance is stable, keep High and adjust only options you personally prefer for image quality.
- If performance drops below your target, lower the most visually expensive groups one at a time, applying each change before testing again.
- Use a frame-rate cap appropriate to your display and the performance you can sustain. A stable cap is preferable to repeatedly swinging between high and low frame rates.
The official listing does not quantify the FPS impact of shadows, effects, view distance, upscaling, frame generation or other individual options. Therefore, no setting in this guide should be read as a guaranteed number of frames saved on every GPU.
Recommended settings for minimum-level hardware
On a PC close to the minimum configuration, start conservatively:
- Set resolution to 1080p.
- Choose the Low preset.
- Cap the game at 30 FPS, matching Steam’s minimum target.
- Test for consistent frame pacing in demanding scenes.
- Raise one option group at a time only if the 30 FPS target remains stable.
Do not begin by increasing every option independently. The minimum specification is defined around Low settings, so raising several groups at once makes it difficult to identify which change caused stutter or drops.
How to tune between Low and High

- Start with the preset closest to your hardware. Minimum-side systems should use Low; recommended-side systems should use High.
- Keep resolution fixed while testing. Changing resolution and quality settings together hides the cause of a performance change.
- Change one option group at a time. Record whether the result improves average FPS, frame-time consistency or neither.
- Prioritize consistency. A lower but stable cap can feel better than an uncapped rate with frequent dips.
- Recheck after updates. Patches or driver changes can alter performance, so settings that were stable previously may need another pass.
This method is intentionally cautious: the official requirements identify target presets, while a complete per-option performance chart is not available.
Operating-system and API requirements
Windows 10 is the minimum operating-system entry and Windows 11 is the recommended entry. Both require a 64-bit operating system and DirectX 12. A 32-bit Windows installation does not meet the published requirement, even if the CPU and GPU are otherwise powerful enough.
Pre-launch checklist
- Use a 64-bit edition of Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Install current graphics drivers that support DirectX 12.
- Confirm the game is launching on the intended discrete GPU rather than an integrated graphics processor.
- Verify 55GB of free space on an SSD.
- Close unnecessary background applications if the PC is near the 8GB minimum memory level.
Troubleshooting common requirement failures
The installer says there is not enough space
Check free space on the exact SSD selected for the game. The requirement is 55GB available; freeing space on another drive will not satisfy the installer if the destination remains below that amount.
The game will not start because of DirectX or the operating system
Verify that Windows is 64-bit and that the system supports DirectX 12. The published requirements do not list a 32-bit fallback or an older graphics API.
Performance is below the expected target
Confirm which official target you are using. Low/30 applies to the minimum tier; High/60 applies to the recommended tier. If your hardware is between those examples, return to 1080p, choose the nearer preset, cap the frame rate and adjust one group at a time. Do not assume that reaching the recommended RAM amount alone guarantees the High/60 result.

Stuttering occurs on an otherwise qualifying PC
Check that the game is on an SSD, that the intended GPU is active, that memory usage is not exhausting available RAM and that frame rate is not oscillating without a cap. If the problem persists, test a lower preset and compare frame pacing rather than relying only on an average FPS counter.
Choosing upgrades in the right order
- Install or designate an SSD first. Storage is a stated prerequisite, and 55GB must be free.
- Move from 8GB to 16GB RAM. This reaches the official recommended memory level.
- Upgrade the GPU toward the RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or RX 6800 XT 16GB class if your current card is near the minimum examples and you want the 1080p High/60 target.
- Upgrade the CPU toward the Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5800X class if the processor is closer to the minimum examples and limits frame-rate consistency.
- Check platform compatibility before purchasing. Motherboard socket, BIOS, power supply, cooling and case clearance can all constrain an upgrade.
This order separates prerequisites from performance upgrades: an SSD and adequate free space are required to install, while RAM, GPU and CPU changes determine how closely the system can approach the recommended target.
What the official specifications do—and do not—tell you
The listing establishes two clearly defined 1080p profiles, component examples, DirectX 12, Windows versions, memory levels and SSD storage. It does not establish universal results for 1440p or 4K, ray tracing, frame generation, upscaling modes, individual quality sliders, minimum frame rate, loading times or performance in every game area. Treat any such figures as separate measurements only when they come from a clearly identified benchmark with matching hardware and settings.
