Clive Barker says Hellraiser: Revival has shown filmmakers how much unexplored potential remains in the Hellraiser mythology. In an October 15, 2026 interview with Dread Central, Barker called the game a “wake-up call” and said he has many ideas for future Hellraiser films and other media. He did not announce a movie adaptation of Revival; his comments describe creative momentum and a proof of concept, not a confirmed production.
What Clive Barker actually said
Barker told Dread Central that “what was achieved in the game is a wake-up call to anyone who’s been involved in the making of a franchise like Hellraiser.” He said the game demonstrates the value of returning to an established universe with new ideas rather than simply reheating familiar material.

He added: “It says to get your ideas warmed over so you can go back into existing worlds in a brand new way. I have many ideas that I’d like to see realized in the Hellraiser universe, and I’m planning to keep my fingers in that pie.” Barker also said, “I’d love to have another go at it and explore,” and described Hellraiser as a mythology that could be given “some real space to develop and expand upon myth.”
Those statements are not a green light for a film. The interview explicitly says Barker was not announcing a movie adaptation of Revival. His darker film concepts—including stories drawing on Rome, the Vatican and the Inquisition, with Black Sunday and Suspiria cited as inspirations—are creative possibilities, not announced productions.

Why Revival matters to the Hellraiser universe
Hellraiser: Revival is a new story in the Hellraiser universe, rather than a formally announced continuation of any specific film. The official game announcement presents it as a single-player, first-person action-survival-horror experience. Barker consulted on the project so its visual style, story motifs, lore and character personalities would remain connected to his vision.
The game also gives Barker a practical example of how Hellraiser ideas can work outside a traditional movie runtime. A game can let players investigate, fight, solve problems and move through the setting at their own pace. For Barker, that appears to have reinforced the amount of room available for stories about the Cenobites, the Labyrinth and the theology of pain and pleasure.
How the game’s story works
Aidan and Sunny
Players control Aidan, who uses melee weapons, ranged weapons and the powers of the Genesis Configuration while trying to rescue his girlfriend, Sunny. The July 16, 2026 PlayStation feature says Sunny activates the configuration and is torn apart by Cenobites. Aidan then learns that her soul may still be saved, giving the rescue mission its central objective.

The Genesis Configuration and the Labyrinth
The Genesis Configuration is the game’s pivotal box and a source of supernatural abilities. Aidan must use it while navigating the Labyrinth, the realm associated with the Cenobites. The game’s premise keeps the recognizable Hellraiser objects and entities while telling a new story around them.
The Scarlet Church and the Unworthy
The Scarlet Church seeks contact with the Cenobites and wants to use the box to create a debauched paradise. The Unworthy—rejects of Leviathan—are also drawn to the configuration because they see it as a possible route to redemption. These factions expand the mythology beyond a simple survivor-versus-monster setup and provide competing reasons for pursuing the box.
Is Revival connected to the original Hellraiser films?
It is connected to the broader Hellraiser universe and uses its mythology, but the available announcements do not describe it as a direct continuation of a particular original film. Barker’s involvement is substantial: the official Clive Barker site says he helped refine the game’s ideas, visual approach, story motifs, lore and character personalities. That makes his creative input a defining part of the project, while leaving its exact continuity relationship to individual films unspecified.

Doug Bradley voices Pinhead in the game. Barker summarized their relationship in the interview by saying, “Doug is Pinhead and Pinhead is Doug. They occupy the same space.”
Development, release date and platforms
Game director Emil Esov said in the July 16, 2026 PlayStation feature that development had lasted “4+ years.” That is a duration supplied by the developer, not an independently measured production statistic.

What Barker’s comments mean for future Hellraiser movies
The most accurate reading is that Revival may function as a creative proof of concept. Barker believes the game shows that Hellraiser can support new settings, factions and mythological questions while retaining its identity. He has ideas he would like to develop as films and in other media, but no specific project, release date, studio attachment or adaptation of the game was announced in the interview.
For now, the confirmed development is the game itself and Barker’s continuing interest in expanding the universe. Any future movie claim should be treated as official only when a production is formally announced by its creators or distributor.
