Yes, ClockworkPi is shipping uConsole units—but “now shipping” does not mean every version is in stock or that a new direct order will arrive quickly. The official store is accepting orders, some customers have received devices, and the Raspberry Pi CM4 Lite kit was listed at $249 in the August 16, 2026 snapshot. However, ClockworkPi still uses preorder language, several variants were out of stock, and the A-06 product page quoted an estimated delivery time of approximately 90 business days. Community reports describe waits ranging from roughly three months to seven to twelve months for some orders.

The short version

  • Can you order a uConsole? Yes, although availability varies by configuration.
  • Does “shipping” mean immediate dispatch? No. Direct orders remain batch-based and may involve a long wait.
  • Which version is the safest choice? The CM4 configuration has the strongest software ecosystem and is the best general-purpose option.
  • Is it a Steam Deck alternative? No. It is a small Linux computer with a keyboard, GPIO, modular hardware, and retro-gaming capability—not a modern gaming handheld.
  • What is missing from the advertised kit? The A-06 kit listing does not include the required 18650 batteries.

The uConsole is best understood as a compact, keyboard-equipped Linux computer that can also function as a retro-gaming machine. Its appeal is modularity, repairability, physical controls, and experimentation. Its drawbacks are uncertain fulfillment, assembly and setup work, a small screen, modest performance, and uneven software support between compute modules.

What “now shipping” means in practice

ClockworkPi has a functioning store and has fulfilled uConsole orders. Community members also report receiving units in 2026. That establishes that the product is real and shipping, but it does not establish immediate warehouse availability for every variant.

The official A-06 page quotes an estimated delivery time of about 90 business days. That is a product-page estimate, not a guaranteed service level. Community shipping records describe some deliveries taking approximately three months, while others took seven to twelve months depending on the variant, order batch, and whether the order involved a CM4 or cellular module. These reports are anecdotal and should not be treated as a universal delivery promise.

For a direct order, distinguish between:

  1. The product being listed.
  2. The order being accepted and payment captured.
  3. A production batch being assigned.
  4. A shipping label being created.
  5. The parcel being handed to a carrier.
  6. Customs clearance and final delivery.

An “in stock” or purchasable status does not, by itself, prove that the device is sitting in a warehouse ready to dispatch. Variant-specific delays are possible, particularly when a compute module or cellular component is the bottleneck. Community reports suggest that some resellers have delivered units in days or weeks, sometimes at a premium, but reseller inventory, markup, warranty coverage, and import treatment must be verified independently.

For direct-order experiences and reported delays, see the ClockworkPi forum discussion.

What the uConsole actually is

The uConsole combines a ClockworkPi mainboard, a removable compute module, a 5-inch display, a physical keyboard, game-style controls, speakers, battery circuitry, and an enclosure. Calling it only a game console misses the central appeal: it is a portable Linux terminal and development computer with gaming controls attached.

It is suitable for terminal work, lightweight coding, Linux applications, GPIO projects, retro emulation, small game engines, and keyboard-heavy software. It is not a modern x86 laptop, a high-performance workstation, or a turnkey console with guaranteed compatibility.

How the modular design works

The system is organized around several replaceable or separately sourced components:

  • Mainboard: ClockworkPi v3.14 revision 5.
  • Core module: A-04, A-06, R-01, or a Raspberry Pi CM4 installed through an adapter board.
  • Expansion: An optional 4G/LTE module using the mini PCIe-style interface.
  • Storage: A microSD/TF card; ClockworkPi lists a tested maximum of 256GB for the mainboard storage interface.
  • Integrated modules: The display, keyboard, battery system, controls, and enclosure are designed as part of the uConsole but can be serviced or replaced within the system.

Modular does not mean that every single-board computer will work. Compatibility depends on the electrical interfaces, adapter, firmware, cooling, operating-system image, connector layout, and physical fit. Community experimentation with another board should not be confused with official support.

Choosing a compute module

Core Published hardware Best suited to
Raspberry Pi CM4 Quad-core Cortex-A72 at 1.5GHz, 4GB in the listed configuration, VideoCore 4 General Linux use, coding, emulation, and the broadest software ecosystem
A-04 Quad-core Cortex-A53 up to 1.8GHz, 2GB DDR3, Mali-T720 Lower-cost ARM use
A-06 Dual-core Cortex-A72 plus quad-core Cortex-A53, 4GB LPDDR4, Mali-T864 Higher-performance ClockworkPi configuration when available
R-01 Single-core RISC-V RV64, 1GB DDR3, no listed GPU Experimental RISC-V and Linux projects

The A-06 description refers to a heterogeneous arrangement containing two Cortex-A72 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. It should not be casually described as a conventional six-core processor.

The CM4 is the safest recommendation for most buyers because Raspberry Pi software, documentation, and community support are more established. The A-06 may be attractive when available, but its ecosystem is less standardized. The R-01 is interesting for experimentation and a poor default choice for gaming or a first uConsole.

Do not assume official CM5 compatibility. A different compute module requires documented support for the board, adapter, firmware, operating-system image, and physical configuration.

What comes in a kit?

The A-06 kit page lists the following:

  • ClockworkPi v3.14 revision 5 mainboard
  • A-06 core module
  • Extension module
  • 5-inch 720p IPS display
  • Backlit QWERTY keyboard
  • Battery module
  • Dual speakers
  • Shells, bracket system, and hex key
  • 32GB TF card containing ClockworkOS

The listed A-06 kit does not include the 18650 batteries. You need suitable cells before the device can be used on battery power. The CM4 listing should also be checked carefully at checkout: confirm whether the actual Compute Module 4 is included and verify its RAM, wireless, eMMC, and Lite configuration rather than inferring those details from the product name.

Core hardware

  • 5-inch IPS display
  • 1280×720 resolution at a claimed 60Hz
  • 95×77mm mainboard
  • 802.11ac Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0
  • One external USB 2.0 port and two internal USB 2.0 interfaces
  • USB-C charging port
  • MicroSD/TF-card slot
  • Micro-HDMI output
  • 3.5mm headphone and microphone support
  • GPIO interface
  • Mini PCIe-style expansion interface
  • 200-pin SODIMM-style core-module interface
  • Integrated power management and stereo audio amplification
  • 74-key physical backlit keyboard
  • Trackball with click and mouse buttons
  • Dedicated directional and action buttons

ClockworkPi’s “5G-WIFI” wording refers to 802.11ac Wi-Fi, not 5G cellular. Cellular connectivity is a separate 4G/LTE expansion option.

Gaming: good for retro, not a Steam Deck replacement

The uConsole’s physical controls and compact design make it appealing for classic console emulation, 8-bit and 16-bit systems, older 3D consoles, Linux-native indie games, fantasy consoles, text-based games, and game development or testing.

ClockworkPi promotes support for many emulators and indie-game tools, but that is a broad manufacturer claim rather than a guarantee for every emulator, game, core, driver, and operating-system image. A game that can launch is not necessarily playable, and a playable game may not be comfortable on a 5-inch screen.

Expect limitations with modern AAA PC games, x86-only software, titles requiring current proprietary graphics drivers, and demanding PlayStation 2, GameCube, Wii, or newer emulation. The result depends heavily on the selected core, emulator, graphics drivers, resolution, thermals, and game.

uConsole Kit for Raspberry Pi CM4, ClockworkPi v3.14 Rev 5 Mainboard, WiFi + 4G LTE, 5 Inch IPS QWERTY Handheld Linux Computer (Non Core) (Silver, WiFi Only)
  • 1. Barebones Kit for Raspberry Pi CM4 – Made for users who want to add their own Raspberry Pi CM4 module to a portable handheld Linux computer kit.
  • 2. Multiple Configurations Available – Choose from with WiFi-only or WiFi + 4G LTE connectivity options.
  • 3. 5 Inch QWERTY Handheld Design – Features a 5 inch IPS display, compact QWERTY keyboard, mini trackball, speakers, and handheld cyberdeck-style layout.
  • 4. ClockworkPi v3.14 Rev 5 Mainboard – Uses the ClockworkPi v3.14 revision 5 mainboard platform with CM4 adapter support for Raspberry Pi CM4 users.
  • Important Package Note – Raspberry Pi CM4 module, 18650 batteries, TF card, SIM card, and cellular service plan are not included.

The practical distinction is:

  • Can launch: The software installs and starts.
  • Playable: Performance and controls are acceptable.
  • Comfortable: Frame rate, interface readability, controls, stability, and battery behavior are all suitable for extended use.

Without controlled testing of a named game, emulator, core, and image, no universal performance promise is justified.

Linux software and setup

ClockworkPi maintains a GitHub repository containing operating-system images, kernel patches, keyboard firmware, 4G materials, schematics, and assembly documentation. The repository lists a CM4 image dated April 14, 2026, based on Linux kernel 6.12.62. Older A06 and R01 images use older kernels, including Linux 5.15.119 and 5.4.61.

The CM4 has the strongest Raspberry Pi software ecosystem. ClockworkPi’s own images may be more convenient because they include uConsole-specific configuration, while a generic Raspberry Pi image may need fixes for the display, keyboard, controls, power management, or expansion hardware.

Installing an image generally involves:

  1. Download the image that matches the exact core and hardware revision.
  2. Decompress it. macOS users need macOS 11.6 or later to extract 7z files according to the repository documentation.
  3. Use Balena Etcher on Windows or macOS, or dd on Linux.
  4. Verify the target storage device before writing; flashing erases the selected device.
  5. Boot the uConsole and apply any documented firmware or configuration updates.

Do not flash an A06 image to a CM4 or R01. Likewise, do not assume a generic Raspberry Pi image will provide full uConsole support. An image mismatch can produce missing display, keyboard, power, audio, or expansion functionality.

4G/LTE expansion

The optional cellular module provides LTE Cat 4, advertised maximum speeds of 150Mbps down and 50Mbps up, a SIM-card slot, broad band support, and optional GPS. GPS requires an antenna, while analog voice requires a headset.

Supported bands do not guarantee service with every carrier. Regional provisioning, carrier shutdowns, APN settings, SIM format, modem firmware, antenna installation, and Linux configuration all matter. “Global” band coverage is not the same as guaranteed connectivity in every country. The module also adds cost, power consumption, and another possible source of driver or setup problems.

Battery, assembly, and total cost

The uConsole is a kit-like product rather than an appliance. Expect to install or attach the compute module, assemble the chassis, flash storage, configure Linux, and potentially troubleshoot display rotation, keyboard behavior, audio, Wi-Fi, cellular connectivity, or suspend/resume.

Battery operation requires 18650 lithium-ion cells, which are not included in the listed A-06 kit. Use matched, reputable cells appropriate for the device and follow safe handling, charging, storage, and disposal practices. Do not mix old and new cells or cells with different capacities and wear. A lithium-ion battery label alone does not establish that a cell is authentic or suitable.

SUOGOEST uConsole Kit RPI-CM4 Lite with ClockworkPi v3.14 mainboard Revision 5 (WiFi+4G Cellular, Non)
  • 1. ClockworkPi v3.14 mainboard revision 5, (Optional) Raspberry Pi CM4 104000 lite (ARM Cortex-A72 quad-core, 4GB LPDDR4, WIFI 2.4 GHz, 5.0 GHz IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ac wireless + Bluetooth 5.0, BLE) Adapter for RaspberryPi CM4 computing module to the mainboard.
  • 2. WIFI gain antenna for CM4 computing module. Ext. module. Standard HD 720p 5.0-inch IPS screen
  • 3. Clockwork ultra-portable QWERTY Backlit keyboard
  • 4. Dual speaker, Shells and bracket system & 2.5mm Hex key
  • 5. 32GB high-speed TF-card with clockworkOS*

Runtime varies with the compute module, screen brightness, workload, emulator, Wi-Fi or cellular use, and battery quality. The official power circuitry does not establish one universal real-world runtime, so avoid treating any single battery-life figure as representative of every configuration.

Budget for more than the headline price:

  • Suitable 18650 cells
  • Possible replacement or spare microSD card
  • USB-C power supply
  • Micro-HDMI cable for external-display troubleshooting
  • Optional LTE module and antenna
  • Shipping, taxes, VAT, customs duties, and carrier brokerage fees

International buyers should also consider regional battery-shipping restrictions and address-verification delays.

Who should buy the uConsole?

It makes sense for a buyer who values a physical keyboard, Linux access in a very small form factor, GPIO and hardware hacking, repairable or replaceable modules, retro-computing projects, Raspberry Pi compatibility, or a distinctive portable development machine.

The CM4 kit is the most defensible general-purpose choice. A barebones configuration can suit an experienced buyer who already owns a compatible compute module and understands the adapter and software requirements. The A-06 is worth considering when it is available and the buyer accepts a less standardized ecosystem. The R-01 is primarily for RISC-V experimentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Who should skip it?

Skip the uConsole if you need immediate delivery, strong conventional warranty infrastructure, modern laptop performance, a large bright display, polished touch-screen integration, guaranteed suspend/resume behavior, modern PC gaming, or a device that works without assembly and Linux troubleshooting.

A used business laptop generally delivers more performance, a larger screen, a better keyboard, and broader software compatibility per dollar. A Steam Deck is substantially better for modern PC gaming and offers a more polished gaming interface, although it is larger, heavier, and less useful as a compact keyboard-and-GPIO hacking platform. A Raspberry Pi 5 custom handheld may be faster, but requires separate work on the display, keyboard, battery, enclosure, and power management.

Verdict

The ClockworkPi uConsole is genuinely reaching customers, but it is not yet accurate to treat it as uniformly available retail hardware. Direct buyers should expect configuration-specific stock and potentially lengthy batch fulfillment, not guaranteed immediate dispatch.

As a niche Linux computer, keyboard handheld, development platform, and retro-gaming machine, it is unusually capable and interesting. The CM4 version is the safest choice for software compatibility. But buyers must account for batteries, assembly, image selection, troubleshooting, import costs, and the limitations of a small ARM-based computer. It is a compelling hobbyist computer—not a conventional laptop or a Steam Deck substitute.
