Amazon Luna suits households that use Fire TV or Prime and are happy with rotating libraries. Your decision also depends on device support, controller access, internet quality, and the games you want to play.
These services do not provide the same product. GeForce NOW streams games you own from supported PC stores; Xbox Cloud Gaming mainly streams a Game Pass catalog, with some separately owned titles also eligible; Luna combines Prime access with a rotating library and the optional Luna Premium subscription.

GeForce NOW: your supported PC library
NVIDIA requires you to own or purchase a game before playing it on GeForce NOW, unless it is one of the supported free-to-play titles. Supported storefronts include Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, the EA app, GOG, Epic Games Store, Steam, and Xbox. A game can be available on one storefront but not another, so check the exact edition and store account you use.

This model is best understood as a streaming layer for a PC library. You do not download the game to your phone, Chromebook, or TV; GeForce NOW launches it on a remote gaming computer after you authenticate with the relevant store. Your existing purchase remains tied to that store account.
Xbox Cloud Gaming: an included Game Pass catalog, plus selected owned games
Xbox Cloud Gaming is primarily a Game Pass benefit. An eligible Game Pass plan is required for subscription titles, while selected free-to-play games can be launched with a free Microsoft account. Xbox also supports streaming certain cloud-playable games that you own or buy outside the Game Pass catalog, but ownership alone does not make every Xbox game streamable.
Because the catalog and eligibility can change, open the cloud-playable label for an individual game before relying on it. A title installed on your console is not automatically available in the cloud.

Luna: Prime access and rotating channels
Amazon Prime includes access to a rotating library of more than 50 cloud-delivered games where the service is available. Luna Premium is listed at $9.99 per month in Amazon’s FAQ, with regional price variation. Both the included Prime selection and Premium catalog can change, so Luna is better for discovering and rotating through games than for permanently holding a fixed library.

Performance, queues, and session limits
GeForce NOW publishes the clearest performance tiers
GeForce NOW’s Ultimate membership uses RTX 5080 virtual rigs and is advertised for up to 5K at 120 frames per second, or up to 360 frames per second at 1080p in a competitive mode. Its Performance tier supports up to 1440p at 60 frames per second. The free tier uses variable rig performance based on the game and server availability.
Ultimate also advertises shorter waits, longer sessions, RTX features, and 50-Series performance. Those are tier benefits rather than guarantees that every game, display, or connection will reach the maximum figure. Your monitor or television, selected in-game settings, distance to the data center, and network stability can all reduce the delivered result.
Xbox Cloud Gaming and Luna are title- and device-dependent
The Xbox and Luna pages covered here do not publish a universal maximum resolution or frame rate that applies to every game and device. Treat quality as title- and device-dependent rather than assuming a fixed 4K or 120-FPS mode. A newer television or phone may decode a stream differently from a browser on an older laptop, and the same game can behave differently under congestion.
Cloud play also adds a session policy to the normal game. Waiting queues, idle timeouts, play-session caps, and priority rules can vary by membership and demand. Check the current membership page for the plan you are considering, because these limits are volatile.

Luna’s cloud-delivered service is listed in 14 countries: the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Catalogs and device support can differ within those markets. Xbox and GeForce NOW availability also varies by country, so check the service’s current availability page from your location.
Internet requirements: speed is only the starting point
GeForce NOW targets higher bandwidth at higher resolutions
- For Full HD at 60 FPS, NVIDIA recommends at least 25 Mbps.
- For 4K at 120 FPS, NVIDIA recommends 45 Mbps.
- For 5K at 120 FPS, NVIDIA recommends up to 65 Mbps.
- Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi is preferred over a congested 2.4 GHz connection.
These are downstream targets, not promises of perfect play. Packet loss, latency, jitter, and other household traffic can cause stutter even when a speed test reports enough bandwidth.
Xbox Cloud Gaming has a lower published minimum
Xbox lists at least 10 Mbps download speed and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. A wired connection is generally the most predictable option for a TV or console area; if you use Wi-Fi, place the access point close to the play device and avoid competing 4K video streams during play.

Amazon’s Luna explanation describes games running on remote servers while video and audio stream to your device. The practical test is whether your connection holds a steady route to the service. If the picture drops quality or controls feel delayed, test Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, pause large downloads, and try again at a less congested time.

Do you need a controller?
Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox requires a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB for most cloud play. Select games provide touch controls, but touch support is not universal. Pair the controller before opening the cloud session, and use USB if Bluetooth interference causes missed inputs.
Luna
Luna’s GameNight feature can turn a phone into a controller. Other Luna games require a controller or use a mouse and keyboard. Amazon lists the Luna Controller at $69.99 and describes direct cloud connectivity intended to reduce latency, but compatible Xbox, PlayStation, and Razer controllers are also supported. The Luna Controller is optional, not a requirement for every setup.
GeForce NOW
Because GeForce NOW streams PC versions, input depends on the game and device. Keyboard-and-mouse play is the natural fit for many PC games, while a compatible gamepad is more practical on a television, phone, or tablet. Check the input support shown for the game and your client before buying extra hardware.

How to start playing
GeForce NOW setup
- Create or sign in to a GeForce NOW account and select the membership tier you want.
- Install the supported app or open the supported browser experience on your device.
- Connect the store accounts that contain your games, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, or Ubisoft Connect.
- Search for the exact game and storefront edition, then launch it.
- Complete the store sign-in inside the remote session when requested. Your saves and achievements depend on the game’s account and cloud-save support.
Xbox Cloud Gaming setup
- Confirm that your Game Pass plan includes cloud gaming, or select a free-to-play title that supports cloud access with a free Microsoft account.
- Use a supported Xbox app, browser, TV app, Fire TV setup, or other listed device.
- Pair a compatible Bluetooth or USB controller, unless the selected game explicitly offers touch controls.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that holds your subscription or eligible game.
- Choose a title marked as cloud playable and start the stream.
Luna setup
- Sign in with the Amazon account that has Prime or Luna Premium access, where available.

What each option really costs
The subscription price is only one part of a cloud-gaming budget. GeForce NOW may require buying games you do not already own. Xbox Cloud Gaming generally bundles access through an eligible Game Pass plan, but games can leave the catalog. Luna Prime access depends on having Prime, while Luna Premium is listed at $9.99 per month in Amazon’s FAQ and may cost differently by country.

Also budget for a controller if your device requires one, a 5 GHz or Wi-Fi 6-capable router if your current network is unreliable, Ethernet cabling for a wired setup, and a supported TV or streaming device. Hardware prices and subscription plans change, so verify the current local total before committing.
Decision guide by player type
- You own a large Steam or Epic PC library: Start with GeForce NOW, then verify that your favorite games and store editions are supported.
- You want to sample many console games without buying each one: Xbox Cloud Gaming through an eligible Game Pass plan is the most direct match.
- You primarily play on Fire TV and already have Prime: Luna offers the shortest path to a rotating included library.

Troubleshooting common problems
The game is missing from the library
On GeForce NOW, check the supported store and edition; owning a game on an unsupported storefront will not make it launchable. On Xbox, verify both cloud-play eligibility and whether the title is still in Game Pass. On Luna, check whether the Prime or Premium rotation changed in your country.
The stream looks blurry or keeps dropping quality
Run a speed test near the device, switch to Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, stop background downloads, and lower the stream resolution or frame-rate target. GeForce NOW’s 4K and 5K targets require substantially more bandwidth than Full HD.
Controls feel delayed
Move closer to the Wi-Fi access point or use Ethernet, remove Bluetooth interference, and test the controller by USB. A fast download result cannot compensate for high latency or packet loss.
You cannot connect a TV or phone
Recheck the exact model, operating system, browser, and country against the service’s current supported-device list. “Samsung TV” or “Android phone” is not a guarantee that every model is supported.

Choose GeForce NOW for ownership-based PC streaming and the strongest published performance options. Choose Xbox Cloud Gaming for an included Game Pass catalog across a broad set of devices.
