Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Canon printer package
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
This is the most likely fix, especially when the error appears while printing, opening a Canon utility, or launching software that came with the printer.

1. Identify the printer model
Check the label on the printer or open:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Note the complete printer name and model number.
Do not rely only on a generic name such as “Canon Printer.” Similar models can use different driver packages.

2. Remove the current printer
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Choose the affected Canon printer.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
If the printer is already missing from this list, continue with the driver cleanup below.
3. Remove the old driver package when Windows allows it
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
control printers. - Press Enter.
- Select any printer once.
- Select Print server properties in the toolbar. On some systems, you may need to right-click an empty area or use the Properties menu.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the Canon driver associated with the removed printer.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package if that option appears.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove drivers belonging to other printers unless you have confirmed that they are obsolete.
4. Download the replacement from Canon
Use Canon’s support page and enter the exact printer model. Select your version of Windows and download the printer driver or complete software package offered for that model.

5. Install the package
- Disconnect the USB printer if the Canon installer instructs you to do so.
- Right-click the downloaded installer.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup prompts.
- Connect or select the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows after setup finishes.
Test the printer by opening Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, selecting the Canon printer, and choosing Print a test page from its printer properties.
If the error returns immediately, record the full path shown in the message and continue with Fix 2. The file may be called by an old Canon monitor, startup utility, or leftover installation rather than by the printer queue itself.

When manually hunting through old driver packages, it is easy to choose the wrong model or architecture. Fix 2: Install a compatible Windows printer driver
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
A discontinued Canon printer may not have a current package for Windows 11 or Windows 10. Windows may still be able to print through a compatible built-in driver.
Use Windows Update to find a driver
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Wait while Windows searches.
- If the printer appears, select Add device.
- If Windows reports that the driver is unavailable, select Add manually.
- Choose the connection type that matches your printer, such as USB or a network address.
- Select the closest Canon model offered by Windows.
- Finish the wizard and print a test page.
A built-in driver may restore basic printing but not every Canon scanning, monitoring, or maintenance feature. If the cnb_0315.dll error appears only when opening a Canon utility, uninstall that utility or reinstall the compatible Canon package instead of repeatedly changing the Windows printer queue.
Fix 3: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Public file inventories report at least one legacy 32-bit build of cnb_0315.dll. That does not automatically make it incompatible with 64-bit Windows. Windows can run 32-bit printer components through its printer-driver architecture.
The important rule is to use the architecture and Windows release offered for the exact printer model. Do not replace a 32-bit component with a similarly named 64-bit file, or use a file taken from another Canon model.
To check Windows architecture:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Look beside System type.
If the error says the file is “not designed to run on Windows,” or mentions an invalid image or missing procedure entry point, suspect a mismatched or damaged driver package. Remove the old Canon package and reinstall the model-specific package rather than copying a replacement DLL.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine and file integrity
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Security software can quarantine a driver component. This is particularly important if the printer worked previously and the error began suddenly.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
cnb_0315.dllor Canon printer software. - Do not restore the file immediately.
- Run a current scan.
- Check the original file path and digital-signature information if the security product provides it.
- Reinstall the Canon package from the manufacturer instead of restoring an isolated DLL whenever possible.
A legitimate Canon component should come from the Canon installation package and normally be located in a driver-store or Canon software location. A copy in a temporary folder, an unrelated application directory, or an unexpected user-profile location deserves further investigation.
If your security software continues to detect the file, leave it quarantined and contact the security administrator or Canon support. Do not add a broad antivirus exclusion merely to make the error disappear.
Fix 5: Repair broader Windows corruption with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–45 minutes
cnb_0315.dll is associated with Canon printer software rather than the Windows operating system. DISM and SFC will not normally recreate a missing third-party Canon file. They are useful when several Windows applications are failing, Windows components are damaged, or the Canon installer itself cannot run correctly.
Run DISM first
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the permission prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Keep the window open and run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
DISM repairs the Windows image. SFC checks protected Windows system files. If both tools complete successfully but the Canon error remains, return to Fix 1 rather than repeating the commands.

Fix 6: Remove a stale startup entry or Canon utility

- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for Canon monitoring, status, launcher, or printer utilities.
- Select a clearly identified obsolete Canon entry.
- Select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Disabling a startup entry prevents it from launching, but it does not repair the driver. If you still use the utility, reinstall the complete Canon package instead.

Remove an obsolete Canon application
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for Canon.
- Remove software belonging to a printer you no longer own.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove every Canon entry blindly if you use multiple Canon printers or scanners.
Fix 7: Check Windows printing features
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Windows Features are not the normal home for cnb_0315.dll, but a missing print subsystem feature can prevent a printer installation from completing.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Expand Print and Document Services.
- Confirm that the feature required by your printer connection is enabled.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Reinstall the Canon package.
Do not enable unrelated features as a DLL repair. If the Canon installer completes but the same file error remains, the problem is more likely a stale Canon package, startup utility, quarantine event, or incompatible driver.

Do not use regsvr32 as a generic fix
regsvr32 applies to DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A printer-driver component is not automatically a self-registering COM or ActiveX library.
Do not run:
regsvr32 cnb_0315.dll
unless Canon’s installation instructions specifically require it. If Windows reports that the entry point was not found, that generally means registration is inappropriate, not that the DLL belongs in another folder.

A standalone download can be:
- the wrong version;
- the wrong architecture;
- missing related files;
- unsigned or tampered with;
- intended for another Canon model;
- placed outside Windows’ driver store.
Even a file with the correct name may not match the printer package that calls it. Installing the complete driver lets Windows register the package, preserve dependencies, and remove obsolete components.

Do not place cnb_0315.dll in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 based only on the filename. There is no reliable evidence that either folder is its universal installation location.
