A 64-bit Windows installation can legitimately use a 32-bit printer-driver component. Do not decide where the DLL belongs based only on the name of a Windows folder. The Canon installer selects the correct files and locations for the printer, Windows edition, and driver architecture.

Fix 2: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine safely
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine a driver component. Never restore a file just because its filename matches the error.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open any detection related to
cnbbr311.dllor Canon printer software. - Check the detected file path and threat details.

- Uninstall the Canon printer driver software and utilities associated with that device.
- Restart Windows.

- Expand Printers, Print queues, and, if present, Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click the old Canon device and choose Uninstall device.
- Confirm the removal. If Windows offers a checkbox to remove the driver package, select it only when you are certain the package belongs to the obsolete Canon device.
- Restart again.
Do not delete files from the Windows Driver Store manually. Windows manages that store, and manual changes can damage other printers or cause package-signing problems.
Download the correct package
Open Canon’s official support site, select the exact printer model, choose Windows 10 or Windows 11, and select the matching system architecture. Install the supplied printer driver or complete software package. Canon’s inkjet documentation directs users to its website for the latest model-specific MP Drivers.
Connect the printer only when the Canon installer requests it. If the installer offers a choice between a basic driver and a complete package, use the complete package when the error involves a Canon utility or maintenance tool.

Restart after installation, then print a Windows test page:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Choose Printer properties.
- Select Print Test Page.
The repair worked if the installation completes without the DLL message, the Canon utility opens normally, and the test page prints. If the same error returns, confirm that you selected the exact model rather than a similar Canon series. Multiple old Canon packages can coexist, and reinstalling one model does not necessarily repair another model’s orphaned files.

To check your Windows architecture:
- Press Windows key + I.
- Open System > About.
- Read System type under Device specifications.
Choose the architecture offered for your exact Windows installation and printer model. If Canon provides only an older 32-bit component inside a supported printer package, the installer handles that arrangement. An architecture mismatch can produce an entry-point error or make a dependency appear missing even when cnbbr311.dll exists.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components only when broader corruption is suspected
SFC and DISM are useful when Windows itself has damaged protected files or the component store. They are not reliable replacements for a missing third-party Canon driver.

Repeating system scans without knowing whether Windows corruption is actually present can waste time. - Choose a restore point dated before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Restart Windows.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, and installed programs, but it normally does not remove personal files. Afterward, install the correct Canon package rather than restoring an obsolete driver indefinitely.

Windows Features is not normally where cnbbr311.dll is repaired. Do not enable random features to replace a Canon driver.
If the Windows printing subsystem itself appears unavailable:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures.exe. - Press Enter.
- Expand Print and Document Services.
- Ensure the printing component required by your Windows edition is enabled.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
If printing features are already enabled, close the dialog and return to the Canon driver installation. This step cannot recreate a missing Canon-specific DLL.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 registers DLL components that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal repair command.
A printer-driver support DLL may not be designed for self-registration. Running commands such as these can therefore produce another error without fixing the package:
regsvr32 cnbbr311.dll
regsvr32 C:WindowsSystem32cnbbr311.dll
Use regsvr32 only when Canon’s installer documentation specifically requires it for a known component. For this file, reinstalling the complete signed driver package is the correct approach.

If Canon no longer supports the printer
Older printers may not have a compatible Windows 10 or Windows 11 package. In that case:
- Remove the obsolete Canon software and printer entry.
- Restart Windows.
- Check Canon’s official support portal for the newest available package.
- If no compatible driver exists, try Windows’ supported printer driver options.
- If the printer still cannot operate reliably, replace the obsolete device rather than installing a DLL from an unverified source.
A clean removal is better than leaving a startup utility repeatedly searching for cnbbr311.dll.
