cnbjop8m.dll is generally associated with a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver, not with a Microsoft runtime or a universal Windows component. If Windows reports that cnbjop8m.dll is missing, cannot be loaded, or was not found, repair the Canon printer installation that requested it rather than downloading an isolated DLL.
The file may be part of an older Canon driver package stored in Windows DriverStore. Public file records disagree about its exact version, size, ownership, and Windows classification, so do not treat a random copy as an authoritative replacement. The correct driver depends on your printer model, Windows edition, and the architecture of the software calling the file.
Fix 1: Identify the Canon printer and reinstall its driver
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
This is the most likely solution. A damaged, incomplete, removed, or incompatible Canon package can leave a startup entry or printer utility looking for cnbjop8m.dll.
Find the printer model
Check the label on the printer, its front panel, or the original packaging. You can also check Windows:

- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Read the Canon printer name.
Write down the complete model name, including letters and numbers. Do not install a driver for a similar-looking model.
Remove the existing Canon installation
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Canon printer.
- Select Remove and confirm.
- Go back to Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Canon.
- Remove the Canon printer driver, MP Drivers, utility, or full software package related to that printer.
- Restart Windows.
If the printer is shared over a network, disconnect it temporarily during removal. If Windows says a driver is in use, restart first and try the removal again.
Download the correct package
Use Canon’s official support site and search for the exact printer model. Select your installed version of Windows and download the available printer driver, MP Drivers, or Full Driver and Software Package.
Avoid selecting a package only because its name contains the missing DLL. The installer should be intended for the printer model and Windows version you actually use.
Run the downloaded Canon installer as an administrator:
- Open File Explorer.
- Open Downloads.
- Right-click the Canon installer.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup instructions.
- Connect or turn on the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
Test the result by opening Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners, selecting the Canon printer, and printing a test page. If the error no longer appears and the test page prints, the driver chain has been restored.

Fix 2: Install available printer updates through Windows Update
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Windows Update may have a compatible Canon driver, particularly if the original package was replaced or damaged during an update.

- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Open Advanced options.
- Select Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates.
- Select a Canon printer driver if one is listed.
- Select Download and install.
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends Windows Update first for printer drivers, followed by the printer manufacturer’s support site when Windows Update does not provide the required package. If no Canon driver appears, return to Fix 1 and use Canon’s model-specific installer.
Fix 3: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
A 32-bit application can require a 32-bit driver-side component even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Installing a DLL with the wrong architecture can produce another load failure instead of fixing the original one.
To check Windows architecture:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Find System type.
You may see a 64-bit operating system with an x64-based processor, or a 32-bit operating system. Use the Canon package explicitly intended for that Windows environment.
Do not copy a 32-bit cnbjop8m.dll into System32, SysWOW64, an application directory, or DriverStore to force a match. Those folders have different roles, and manual placement can create version, signature, dependency, and architecture mismatches.

If the error comes from an older Canon utility, check whether Canon offers a newer utility or driver for your model. Some older printers do not have a supported Windows 11 package. A built-in Windows driver or compatibility mode may allow basic printing, but it is not guaranteed to restore the specific Canon component.
Fix 4: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
An antivirus quarantine can make a previously working printer utility report that cnbjop8m.dll is missing.
- Open the Start menu.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries that mention the Canon installation or the DLL.
- Expand an entry to inspect its path, threat details, and action.
Do not restore the file simply because Windows reports it as missing. Restore or allow it only when all of the following are true:

- It came from a verified Canon installation.
- Its location is consistent with the Canon package or DriverStore.
- The file has a trustworthy digital signature.
- A current security scan does not identify it as malicious.
- Reinstalling the driver from Canon is not the safer repair.
If the file was found in Downloads, a temporary folder, or a user-writable application directory, leave it quarantined and run a full Microsoft Defender scan. After restoring a verified file, reinstall the complete Canon package rather than relying on the restored DLL alone.

Time needed: 10–30 minutes
Use these commands when other Windows components are also failing, Windows Update is damaged, or system files may have been corrupted. They are not a substitute for reinstalling a third-party Canon driver, and SFC may not restore a missing Canon DLL.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. Do not close the window while either scan is running.
If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart Windows and test the Canon printer. If it reports that no integrity violations were found, the missing file is more likely part of the Canon installation than Windows itself. If either command reports that it could not complete the repair, install pending Windows updates and repeat the Canon driver installation rather than copying a DLL manually.

Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is useful when reinstalling fails because an old Canon driver remains registered.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, or Universal Serial Bus controllers, depending on how the printer appears.
- Right-click the Canon device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select it.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct Canon package again.
You can also remove stale printer entries from Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners. If several Canon printers are installed, remove or repair only the package belonging to the printer that generated the error.
Fix 7: Remove an orphaned Canon startup reference
Time needed: 10–15 minutes
If the error appears at every startup even though the printer was removed, a Canon utility, scheduled task, or service may still reference the old installation.

First uninstall the related Canon software from Settings → Apps → Installed apps, then restart. Do not delete random startup entries based only on the filename.

If the message continues:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for a Canon entry associated with the removed printer.
- Right-click it and select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
For scheduled tasks, open the Start menu, search for Task Scheduler, and inspect Task Scheduler Library for clearly identified Canon entries. Disable an entry only when you can associate it with the removed printer software. If you are unsure, leave it enabled and continue with a complete Canon uninstall or System Restore.
Do not use regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that cnbjop8m.dll is a COM or ActiveX server that requires registration.
Running this command is therefore not a normal repair:
regsvr32 cnbjop8m.dll
It may return an error stating that the module loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. That does not mean Windows needs a different copy of the file. A missing Canon driver, missing dependency, or wrong architecture must be repaired through the complete driver package.

The exact cause depends on when Windows displays the message:

“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that cnbjop8m.dll itself is missing. Windows can show that message when a dependency required by the DLL cannot be loaded.

Advanced checks before requesting help
If reinstalling the exact Canon package does not solve the error, record:
- The complete Canon printer model.
- Your Windows edition and build.
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- The full error message.
- When the error appears.
- The file path reported by the error or event log.
- The related entry in Event Viewer.
- Whether the file exists anywhere on the computer.
- Whether Windows reports a valid digital signature.
- Whether the issue began after an update, cleanup, restore, antivirus action, or printer removal.
To inspect event records, right-click Start, select Event Viewer, open Windows Logs → Application, and look for an entry at the time of the failure. Do not assume every event mentioning a DLL identifies the root cause.

Is cnbjop8m.dll a Windows system DLL?
