Which fix applies to you
Use the description that matches what you see:
- The error appeared after uninstalling an old utility: remove its leftover startup entry or scheduled task.
- Registry Optimizer still appears in Installed apps: repair or uninstall it through Windows.
- The program is still wanted and its installer is trusted: reinstall the complete application from an official WinZip-provided installer.
- Windows Security recently quarantined the file: inspect Protection history before restoring it.
- Several unrelated programs also fail: repair Windows with DISM and SFC.
- The error began after a recent software or system change: consider System Restore.
- Only one old program reports the error: do not start with Visual C++, DirectX, drivers, or a standalone DLL download.
winzipro.dll is associated with the historical WinZip Registry Optimizer utility. It is not a Windows component, Microsoft Visual C++ file, DirectX file, or normal driver DLL. The exact DLL version, architecture, size, installation path, hash, and signature have not been reliably established, so downloading a replacement based only on the filename is unsafe.
1. Identify what is calling winzipro.dll
The same missing-file message can come from a startup entry, scheduled task, shortcut, or application launcher.
Check the error dialog
Read the complete message and note:
- The name of the executable, if shown.
- Any folder path displayed in the dialog.
- Whether the error appears at sign-in, when opening a particular program, or during shutdown.
- Whether the problem began after uninstalling software, updating Windows, or a security detection.
A path containing an old WinZip-related folder points toward Registry Optimizer. Do not assume every WinZip product uses this file. The main WinZip archiver and Registry Optimizer were separate utilities.

Check Installed apps
On Windows 11:
- Right-click Start and select Installed apps.
- Search for Registry Optimizer or other old WinZip utilities.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Apps & features.
- Search for the same program names.
If the program is present, continue with repair or removal. If it is absent, the error may come from a leftover startup mechanism.
Check Startup apps
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps on Windows 11, or the Startup tab on Windows 10.
- Look for Registry Optimizer, WinZip-related entries, or an item marked Unknown.
- Right-click a suspicious entry and choose Open file location when available.
- Confirm that the location belongs to the old program before disabling it.
Disabling a startup item prevents it from launching automatically but does not remove the program. If the error stops afterward, you have identified the trigger.
Check Task Scheduler
- Press Windows + S.
- Type Task Scheduler and open it.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks whose names or actions refer to Registry Optimizer or an old WinZip utility.
- Double-click a task and inspect the Actions tab.
- Disable the task only after confirming that its executable belongs to the unwanted or incomplete installation.
Do not delete registry entries or scheduled tasks solely because their names contain winzipro.dll. Confirm the executable path first.
2. Repair or remove Registry Optimizer
Repair the installed program
If Registry Optimizer is still installed and you trust the installation:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find the program.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if available.
- Restart Windows and repeat the action that produced the error.
For a traditional desktop installation:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select Registry Optimizer.
- Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
- Follow the installer prompts and restart.
If the error disappears, the program can now locate its files. If repair is unavailable or fails, do not copy a DLL into a Windows system folder.
Reinstall the complete application
Reinstall only if you still need the program and can obtain a trusted installer from an official WinZip source. Historical WinZip pages describe Registry Optimizer, but current WinZip downloads do not list it as a normal product. That means a current supported installer is not verified.

A proper reinstall should place the DLL beside the program that needs it and restore the related configuration. It is safer than downloading winzipro.dll separately, especially because the file’s architecture and exact build are not documented reliably.
If the installer is unavailable, obsolete, or unwanted, uninstall the parent program and remove its stale startup trigger instead of restoring the DLL.

If Registry Optimizer is no longer present:
- Check Installed apps and Programs and Features for a remaining uninstall entry.
- Remove it if available.
- Open Task Manager > Startup apps and disable the confirmed leftover entry.
- Check Task Scheduler Library and disable a confirmed task for the removed program.
- Restart Windows.
If the error continues, use the path shown in the message to locate the calling executable. The DLL may be only the visible symptom of a stale launcher.
3. Check Windows Security before restoring anything
Antivirus software may have quarantined a file, but a quarantine event does not prove that the file was safe.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections related to the Registry Optimizer folder or
winzipro.dll. - Note the original file path, detection name, and date.
- Run a full scan before deciding what to do.
Restore the file only when the parent installation is trusted and you can verify that the detection is a false positive. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined item can allow it to be detected again. If the program is obsolete or unwanted, remove it rather than restoring the file.
For a persistent or suspicious infection, open Virus & threat protection > Scan options, choose Microsoft Defender Offline scan, and select Scan now. Save your work first because Windows will restart.

4. Repair broader Windows component corruption
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a third-party Registry Optimizer DLL, so use them when several programs fail or Windows itself is behaving abnormally.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the operation to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Success means DISM completes without an error and SFC reports that it repaired files or found no integrity violations. If SFC reports no violations, that does not prove winzipro.dll is present because it is not a protected Windows file.

5. Install pending Windows updates
An update is not a normal source for this third-party DLL, but current Windows components can resolve unrelated system problems that make application failures harder to diagnose.

- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected program again.
If only Registry Optimizer reports the missing file, an update is unlikely to supply the solution.
6. Do not use regsvr32 as a generic DLL fix
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration interface such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general command for installing or repairing every DLL.
Do not run:
regsvr32 winzipro.dll
unless the publisher specifically documents that this exact file is a self-registering component. For an ordinary application DLL, the command may report that an entry point is missing and will not restore the parent program’s files or dependencies.

7. Check architecture and application dependencies
A 32-bit application generally needs its 32-bit DLL, even on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit substitute is not interchangeable. Historical Registry Optimizer material mentions both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows compatibility, but it does not verify the architecture of winzipro.dll itself.

Windows Features and Device Manager are also not first-line fixes:
- Windows Features: Open Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off only when the application specifically requires a Windows optional feature. Enabling random features will not provide
winzipro.dll. - Device Manager: Press Windows + X, select Device Manager, expand the relevant device category, right-click a device, and choose Update driver only when the error also involves hardware or driver failures.

8. Use System Restore after a recent system change
If the error started immediately after installing software, removing a utility, or changing system settings, System Restore may reverse the related program and registry changes.
- Press Windows + S.
- Search for Create a restore point and open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Next, review the affected programs, and select Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not remove personal documents, but it can remove applications or settings installed after the selected restore point. Use it when the timing clearly matches a recent change.
Avoid standalone DLL downloads
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong version, or the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture. Even a clean-looking replacement may not fix the missing startup entry, damaged installation, or incompatible parent application.

The safe sources are:
- A complete installer supplied by the original publisher.
- Windows repair tools for Windows components.
- Microsoft documentation and installers when a Microsoft dependency is specifically identified.
Do not copy winzipro.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Application DLLs normally belong beside their owning executable or in the vendor’s designated folder.
Prevention after the error is fixed
- Keep only software you still use.
- Uninstall legacy utilities through Windows rather than deleting their folders manually.
- Review Startup apps after removing old programs.
- Check Protection history before restoring quarantined files.
- Keep a restore point before major software changes.
- Record the complete error path and executable name if the problem returns.
