Public indexes associate the filename with Canon Inkjet Printer Driver software and with older Windows driver-store locations. Some indexed records describe a 32-bit build, but that metadata comes from third-party file records rather than Canon documentation. Treat it as corroborating information, not as a complete official specification.
The filename alone cannot identify:
- The exact Canon printer model
- The original Canon package name
- Whether the installed file is genuine
- Whether a current Windows 10 or Windows 11 package still contains it
- Whether the error comes from the DLL itself or one of its dependencies
A printer may still print through a generic Windows driver while Canon-specific scanning, maintenance, status-monitor, or configuration features fail. That is why the visible error may mention an installer or helper process rather than the printer application you normally use.
Why Windows shows the error
The usual cause is an incomplete, damaged, or incorrectly removed Canon driver installation. This can happen after a failed uninstall, a driver update, a Windows update, or security software quarantining part of the package.
Other possibilities include:
- A Canon setup utility or printer helper is loading an incomplete package.
- A 32-bit component is being loaded by the wrong driver package.
- The DLL exists, but another required DLL is missing.
- A replacement file comes from a different Canon driver version.
- The file was damaged or isolated by antivirus software.
- Windows itself has broader component corruption.
The process named in the message matters. A generic “application could not start” dialog may identify the launcher, installer, or helper process that attempted to load the Canon component. It does not necessarily identify the original owner of the DLL.

“The program can’t start because cnbp_335.dll is missing”
Windows cannot find the expected file in the application or driver location, or the package registration points to a location that no longer exists. A missing dependency can also produce a similar result.
“The code execution cannot proceed because cnbp_335.dll was not found”
The process tried to load the Canon component before it could start. Reinstalling the complete printer package is more reliable than supplying the named DLL alone.
“Error loading cnbp_335.dll” or “The specified module could not be found”
The file may be present while one of its dependencies is missing. This message does not prove that cnbp_335.dll itself is absent.

“The procedure entry point could not be located”
A different or incompatible DLL version was loaded. Mixing files from separate Canon packages commonly creates this type of mismatch.

“cnbp_335.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error”
Windows detected corruption, an incompatible architecture, or an incomplete installation. Replacing the file with an unverified copy can leave the underlying problem unresolved.
“cnbp_335.dll could not be loaded”
The loader rejected the file or could not satisfy its dependencies. Check the printer package, Windows architecture, and antivirus history.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Canon printer driver
This is the most likely solution.
- Open Settings with
Win + I. - Select System, then About.
- Find System type and note whether Windows is x64, x86, or ARM64.
- Write down the exact Canon printer model from the printer label or from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Open Canon’s official Software & Drivers support page in a browser.
- Select Printers.
- Choose the exact printer model.
- Select the installed Windows version and architecture when Canon requests them.
- Download the available printer driver or complete driver/software package.
- Close Canon utilities and printer-related applications.
- Run the downloaded installer and accept the default installation location unless Canon’s installer requires another choice.
- Restart Windows when the installation finishes.
Try the operation that previously caused the error. A successful repair means the Canon utility opens, the printer appears normally, and printing or the affected maintenance feature works without the DLL message.
If the installer reports that an older package is already present, remove the printer in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, restart, and run the Canon installer again. Do not delete random files from System32 or the Windows driver store.

Fix 2: Remove and add the printer again
Use this when reinstalling the package does not repair the association between Windows and the Canon driver.
- Press
Win + I. - Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Wait for Windows to find the printer.
- Select the printer and complete the setup.
If Windows does not find it, confirm that the printer is powered on and connected to the same network, or connect it by USB during installation. Windows Update may install a compatible printer driver automatically. If Canon-specific features are still missing, install Canon’s package for the exact model afterward.

Removing the printer from Settings may leave the underlying driver package in the driver store. Do not delete a driver package unless you can identify the correct Canon INF. Advanced users can inspect installed packages from an administrator Command Prompt with:
pnputil /enum-drivers
Only after identifying the correct Canon package should you consider removal. The documented syntax is:
pnputil /delete-driver <oem#.inf> /uninstall
Replace <oem#.inf> with the actual package name. Removing the wrong package can affect another device.
Fix 3: Check Windows Update and Device Manager
Windows Update is Microsoft’s preferred way to obtain printer drivers when a suitable driver is available.
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Open Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates if that section is present.
- Install a Canon or printer-related update that matches your device.
- Restart Windows.
You can also inspect the device manually:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and, if relevant, Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other devices.
- Right-click the Canon printer or an entry with a warning icon.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if Windows installs or replaces a driver.
If Device Manager shows the device correctly but the Canon utility still reports cnbp_335.dll, reinstall the complete Canon package rather than repeatedly selecting automatic updates.
On Windows ARM64 devices, some manufacturer installers may not work as expected. Add the printer through Windows Settings first, then use Canon software only if the model supports it.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Windows Security may have quarantined the DLL or another file from the Canon package.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open a detection related to the Canon installer or printer package.
- Confirm the original file came from an authentic Canon installer.
- Restore it only when its source and identity are clear.
- Reinstall the Canon package afterward if required.
Do not create an exclusion merely to force an unknown DLL to run. If the file was obtained from a file-index site or an unofficial installer, remove it and download the complete package from Canon instead. A restored file may be detected again if its provenance is not trusted.

Use these commands when several unrelated Windows components are failing, Windows Update is damaged, or the Canon installation appears to be affected by wider system corruption. They are not a guaranteed way to restore a Canon-owned DLL.

- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands complete.
- Reinstall the Canon driver again.
DISM repairs the Windows image, while SFC checks protected Windows system files. If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations but cnbp_335.dll still fails, return to the Canon driver package rather than repeating SFC.
Optional automatic-repair recommendation
Running DISM and SFC manually gives useful results, but it can be difficult to determine which component changed when the repair does not resolve the driver. Outbyte PC Repair offers a free scan that identifies issues it finds; repairs are performed by the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling the Canon package when that package is the real source of the missing file.
Fix 6: Do not use regsvr32 unless Canon requires it
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose a registration routine such as DllRegisterServer. It does not repair missing dependencies, replace a damaged driver package, or make an arbitrary printer DLL compatible with Windows.
Do not run commands such as:
regsvr32 cnbp_335.dll
unless Canon’s documentation for your exact driver explicitly instructs you to do so. A “cannot register” message often means the DLL was never meant to be registered this way.
Similarly, do not copy a 32-bit DLL into C:WindowsSystem32. The name of that folder does not mean every file belongs there, and manually copying the file bypasses the driver’s INF registration and dependencies.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a failed update
If the error began immediately after a driver installation, Windows update, or cleanup operation, System Restore may return the system to an earlier working state.

Win + R. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, settings, and installed programs, but it normally does not remove personal files. You may still need to reinstall the current Canon driver after the rollback.
Should you download cnbp_335.dll separately?
No. Random DLL download sites can provide malware, a wrong version, a damaged file, or the wrong architecture. Even a clean copy may not fix the problem because the missing dependency, driver registration, printer association, or installer state remains broken.
Use Canon’s official support and driver pages, Windows Update, and Windows Settings instead. The complete installer is the source that can supply the matching DLL and configure the printer correctly.
