CODE VEIN II affinity has three separate tracks: Exploration, Story, and Gifts. To reach 100%, you must max out all three—not just fill one gauge. Raise them by adventuring with a partner, completing partner story content, and giving food or valuables; check progress at a Mistletoe.
How affinity works
Affinity tracks a partner’s progression across three independent categories. Each has its own maximum, and the game’s version 1.0.7 notes specify that all three categories must reach their maximum limits for 100% Affinity.

- Exploration: Progress from adventuring with a partner and defeating enemies.
- Story: Progress from partner quests and individual episode advancement. Lou’s Story affinity rises through main-story progress instead, because she has no partner quests.
- Gifts: Progress by giving partners food or valuables.
The official notes do not publish exact gift values, partner-specific caps, or numeric unlock thresholds, so there is no supported universal item recipe for reaching a particular percentage.
How to raise each affinity track
Exploration: travel and fight with the partner
Bring the partner along while exploring and defeating enemies. Enemy strength matters: according to the version 1.0.7 notes, Exploration gains are slower against enemies weaker than the player. The same notes describe adjustments that eased this reduction and say that main-story enemies from Luna Rapacis onward, as well as enemies in second or later playthroughs, award a fixed amount even when they are much weaker.

Story: complete partner content
Do partner quests when they become available and advance the partner’s episode. For Lou, continue the main story to increase Story affinity; she has no partner quests.
Gifts: give food or valuables
Use the Gift screen at a Mistletoe to give a partner food or valuables. The version 1.0.7 notes say Favorite and Loved gifts now grant increased affinity, but the official material cited here does not list item-by-item values or which gifts each partner prefers.

Where to check affinity
- Go to a Mistletoe.
- Open Change Partner or Gift and check the affinity display.
- If a partner’s gauge is not visible, progress the story until that partner reaches the point where they can receive gifts; the gauge becomes visible then.
A full gauge in one category does not mean overall affinity is complete. Check Exploration, Story, and Gifts separately.
What affinity unlocks—and what it does not
Raising affinity unlocks passive Partner Trait Bonuses while that character accompanies you. Bandai Namco’s gameplay guide describes these as effects such as stat boosts or added combat benefits, enhanced by deepening the relationship. Partner Trait Bonuses are distinct from Link Traits: Link Traits are active only while the bond is strong and can temporarily disappear if damage weakens it.

Affinity is also separate from the partner’s broader combat modes. Summoning sends a partner to fight independently; Assimilation combines the player and partner to enhance abilities, stats, and powers; Restorative Offering revives the player when HP reaches zero. These are partner-system features, not affinity categories.

Partner availability depends on the story and timeline. The official FAQ says partners can accompany the player only in their own timeline, and some may be temporarily unavailable as the story progresses. Some partners can be used only in Assimilated state. For others, Summoning and Assimilation can be switched at any time.
