Connection Error 237 is a historically reported Apex Legends error, but EA’s current public error-code guide does not list code 237 or provide a dedicated fix. Players have reported it after lag spikes, deaths, revives, and respawns, sometimes remaining able to move while losing normal camera control.
That pattern may indicate a temporary server-client synchronization or in-match gameplay-state failure, but EA has not publicly confirmed that definition. Start with the fastest checks: verify service status, close and relaunch Apex, restart your system, then isolate your data center and network connection if the problem returns.
What does Apex Legends Connection Error 237 mean?
EA currently documents several Apex Legends error codes, but not 237. Historical reports on the EA Forums and Reddit describe an in-match problem involving freezing, restricted camera movement, partial disconnection, or loss of normal controls after a revival or respawn.
Those reports are several years old, so they establish symptoms rather than a current official definition. Error 237 is not proven to mean bad internet, an account ban, or a general Apex outage. If you can move but cannot turn, the issue is different from simply being unable to reach the main menu.

Quick fix if Error 237 appears during a match
- Wait briefly to see whether control returns.
- If you remain stuck, exit the match if Apex allows it.
- Close Apex completely rather than leaving it suspended.
- Restart your PC or console.
- Check EA’s server-status page and official @PlayApex updates before queueing again.
- If the error returns, select a nearby stable data center from the title screen.
Relaunching can clear a temporary client or match-state failure. It cannot repair an Apex server incident, a defective update, or a bug affecting a particular revival or respawn state.
Check whether Apex Legends is down
Check the EA server-status page and select Apex Legends. Also check your platform’s service status:
- PlayStation Network
- Xbox services
- Nintendo online services
- Steam or the EA app, if applicable
A green status page does not prove that every regional data center, ISP route, or individual match server is healthy. Treat it as an outage check, not a complete diagnosis. If multiple players report the same problem, local router changes are unlikely to help.
Restart Apex, your system, and your router
Quit Apex from the console system menu, or close it fully on PC. Restart the device and relaunch the game. Check for an available Apex or system update before testing another match.

- Turn the router off.
- Unplug it.
- Wait about one minute.
- Plug it back in and allow it to reconnect.
- Retry Apex.
EA recommends this process because it can clear temporary router instability, ISP routing problems, packet loss, or stale connection state. It will not fix a server outage or an in-game state bug. See EA’s online connection guidance for broader connection troubleshooting.
Change your Apex data center
From the Apex title screen, open the Data Center selector, usually shown near the bottom of the screen. Choose the geographically closest location with low ping and no packet loss.
Do not automatically choose a distant center just because its displayed ping is temporarily lower. A distant route can be less stable or produce worse matchmaking. Recheck the setting after major updates or if Apex appears to reset it. EA recommends changing the data center when ping or packet-loss problems continue; its guidance is available here.

EA app
- Open the EA app.
- Open Library.
- Select Apex Legends.
- Choose the Manage icon.
- Select Repair.
Wait for the process to finish, then restart Apex. On Steam or the Epic Games Store, use the launcher’s current Verify integrity of game files or Verify game files option. Menu names can change, so do not rely on old Origin-era instructions.
Repairing files is most useful when the problem is limited to one installation or began after an interrupted update. It is less likely to help if many players are affected or the error occurs only during a specific server-side event.

Test your network
EA identifies wireless interference, congestion, background applications, router placement, and other users on the connection as possible causes of high ping and packet loss. Try the following:
- Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if possible.
- Pause downloads, streaming, cloud backups, and large uploads.
- Test at another time of day.
- Try a phone hotspot briefly as a diagnostic comparison, bearing in mind that mobile data may be metered or unstable.
If Ethernet or another connection fixes repeated failures, investigate your Wi-Fi or ISP. If the same error appears everywhere, especially after a respawn, a local network is less likely to be the only cause.

Should you change DNS?
Only try DNS changes if you have broader connection problems, such as trouble resolving online services or connecting across multiple games. EA lists Google DNS and OpenDNS as possible alternatives but does not operate or support those third-party services.
DNS affects name resolution; it does not directly reduce in-match ping after you are already connected. There is no evidence that one DNS provider specifically fixes Error 237, particularly when the symptom is a camera lock after revival. Record your original settings first and revert the change if it does not help.
Do not start with port forwarding or a VPN
Random port-forwarding guides are not an established Error 237 solution. They can introduce security and configuration problems, and a historical EA Forum report described port forwarding, DNS changes, cache clearing, and other attempts that did not resolve the issue.

Likewise, do not buy a VPN as a universal fix. A VPN might alter an ISP route, but it can also add latency and does not repair an Apex server or corrupted in-match state.
When should you reinstall Apex?
Reinstalling is a last resort. It may address a corrupted or incomplete installation, but it cannot fix an outage or an unpatched game bug. Try restarting, updating, changing data centers, testing the network, and repairing or verifying files first.
EA includes reinstalling among its general Apex troubleshooting options and states that player progress remains available after reinstalling. The process still consumes substantial time and bandwidth.
Could Error 237 be a ban?
There is no evidence linking Error 237 specifically to account enforcement. If you see a separate suspension or ban message, or cannot access online services across multiple games, check your account status and contact EA. A mid-match camera or control failure is not, by itself, proof of a ban.

- Platform and country or region
- Data center and displayed ping or packet loss
- Match mode
- Whether it followed death, revival, or respawn
- Whether you could move but not turn or interact
- Whether teammates or other players were affected
- Whether other games worked normally
- Approximate date and time, plus screenshots or video
If the error affects many players at once, wait for official updates rather than repeatedly changing router settings. If it occurs only on one device, focus on that platform’s service status, system software, installation files, and network path.

Historical reports describe that as a partial gameplay or synchronization failure rather than a total disconnect. Close and relaunch Apex instead of immediately requeueing.
