Connections answers for December 8, 2025
| Color | Category | Answers | Why they fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow | GOAD, WITH “ON” | EGG, PUSH, SPUR, URGE | Each word can mean to urge or prompt someone onward. |
| Green | FAMOUS STREETS IN LOS ANGELES | MULHOLLAND, RODEO, SUNSET, VINE | These stand for Mulholland Drive, Rodeo Drive, Sunset Boulevard, and Vine Street. |
| Blue | MEMBER OF A DALLAS PRO SPORTS TEAM | COWBOY, MAVERICK, STAR, WING | Dallas has the Cowboys, Mavericks, Stars, and Wings. |
| Purple | EUROPEAN CAPITALS MINUS SECOND-TO-LAST LETTER | MINK, PARS, ROE, SOFA | Each is a European capital with its penultimate letter deleted. |
How the purple category works
The purple group is a spelling transformation, not a set of words with a shared meaning. Remove the second-to-last letter from each capital to get the grid entry:

The western-themed decoy
COWBOY, SPUR, MAVERICK, and RODEO may suggest a western theme, but they belong to four different intended groups: Dallas teams, the “goad, with ‘on’” verbs, Dallas teams, and Los Angeles streets, respectively. TechRadar’s guide author reported being drawn into that false grouping before switching to the Los Angeles streets set; it is a useful reminder that a plausible theme is not necessarily a complete category.

Connections asks players to sort sixteen terms into four groups of four. For this puzzle, it helps to separate ordinary word meanings from names and spelling tricks:
Quick Recap
Rank #4
Rank #3
Rank #2
- Write the possible link plainly. For example, ask whether four words are synonyms, place names, or names associated with a sports team.
- Interrogate a tempting set. If a theme such as “western” seems to fit, check whether every word belongs there for the same reason—and whether that leaves a stronger category unexplained.
- Test proper nouns and wordplay. The Dallas teams and Los Angeles streets depend on recognizing names; the purple group depends on changing how a name is spelled.
- Verify the exact letters. For the capital puzzle, remove the penultimate letter, not the final letter or the middle of the word.
