What is CONTROL Resonant about?
CONTROL Resonant launched worldwide on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Digital and physical editions are available. Remedy Entertainment designed it as both a continuation of the first CONTROL and an approachable starting point for newcomers; the official help center says you do not need to have completed the original game to follow the sequel.

Dylan enters a Manhattan altered by paranatural forces, where buildings shift, hostile manifestations appear and a new resonance spreads alongside the returning Hiss and Mold. His personal search and the emergency facing the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) become the same investigation.

- SHARED LEGACY. NEW THREAT: FBC Director Jesse Faden's lockdown is no longer holding. A paranatural catastrophe has spilled beyond the Oldest House and onto the streets of Manhattan, and the Bureau's grip on containment is failing. Jesse Faden walked into the Oldest House to confront the threat within. Now Dylan must walk out of it to contain the threat beyond.
The main story takes roughly 25–35 hours, according to the 2026 PlayStation Blog estimate, with extra activities for players pursuing completion. The game’s scale is different from the first CONTROL: instead of being confined primarily to the Oldest House, Dylan moves through Manhattan streets and other spaces that can change physically and metaphysically.
Dylan and Jesse: the story’s emotional reversal
Dylan Faden
Dylan is the only playable protagonist. Before the events of Resonant, he was a Federal Bureau of Control Prime Candidate whose life was shaped by captivity, experimentation and the Bureau’s attempts to understand his unusual connection to paranatural phenomena. That history explains why he does not begin as a conventional action hero. He is wary of institutions, uncertain of his own abilities and motivated first by the need to find Jesse.
Composer Petri Alanko described Dylan as an “involuntary hero” who eventually chooses to become one without recognizing that choice at the beginning. That arc gives the campaign its central moral question: will Dylan keep reacting to forces that have controlled his life, or will he accept responsibility for protecting someone else?
Jesse Faden
Jesse remains essential even though she is not the playable lead. She was the protagonist of the first CONTROL, entering the Oldest House to rescue Dylan and becoming the Bureau’s director during the Hiss crisis. In Resonant, the search runs in the opposite direction. Dylan is the sibling trying to reach Jesse, and the reversal turns their shared history into the campaign’s emotional structure.
Alanko reinforced that connection musically: he said Dylan’s theme is essentially Jesse’s theme played backwards. It is a deliberate expression of two linked journeys that now move in opposite directions.

How the main factions and threats fit together
The Federal Bureau of Control
The FBC is still attempting to contain an emergency that is spreading through and beyond its facilities. Its role is more complicated than simply providing allies. The Bureau’s earlier treatment of Dylan makes its presence personal, while its containment procedures offer the only organized response to Manhattan’s collapse. Dylan must therefore work around an institution he has reason to distrust while relying on its knowledge and infrastructure.
The Hiss
The Hiss is the hostile resonance introduced in the first game. Remedy’s setup for Resonant names it as one element of the new crisis rather than presenting the sequel as a clean replacement for the original threat. Its return matters because the Hiss is both a physical danger and a reminder that the first game’s disaster was never an isolated incident.
The Mold
Mold is another returning paranormal threat named alongside the Hiss. Its inclusion broadens the crisis: Manhattan is not dealing with a single enemy army but with several phenomena that interact with an already unstable environment. The game uses those overlapping dangers to make the city feel like a system coming apart rather than a series of conventional combat arenas.
The Hedron
Post-release ending accounts identify the Hedron as the major entity Dylan ultimately confronts. It is tied to the new resonance and to the Patterning phenomenon that distorts reality across Manhattan. The official pre-release material established the setting, Dylan’s role and the spreading crisis, but it did not publish a complete scene-by-scene account of the finale. Details about the Hedron belong to spoiler coverage of the released game.
Patterning
Patterning is the name associated with the reality-distorting process linked to the Hedron. It is not merely an enemy type. It changes how spaces behave and raises the larger question of whether reality can return to its previous state after the immediate threat is weakened. The ending answers the short-term survival question more clearly than it answers the long-term consequences.

What happens during the story?
Manhattan’s containment failure
The campaign opens with containment failing. Dylan is drawn into a Manhattan where architecture and physical laws no longer behave reliably. Hostile Resonant manifestations make movement dangerous, while the FBC attempts to understand what is escaping or spreading through its facilities. The city itself becomes evidence: altered streets, shifting structures and unstable boundaries show that the crisis is changing the environment as well as attacking people.

Dylan’s initial objective is personal—find Jesse—but every lead points toward the same forces threatening Manhattan. He has to learn what the new resonance is doing, how it relates to the Hiss and Mold, and why the Hedron appears to be at the center of the Patterning. This is where the sequel’s premise and its mystery structure merge. The player is not following two separate plots, one about family and one about containment; solving one is necessary to advance the other.
Aberrant and Dylan’s combat identity
Dylan’s signature weapon is Aberrant, a shapeshifting weapon highlighted in the official story material. It gives his combat style a different identity from Jesse’s. The first game emphasized Jesse’s Service Weapon and telekinetic toolkit; Resonant puts more weight on Dylan’s close-range, melee-oriented abilities and on a weapon that can change form. Those differences support the narrative contrast between the siblings rather than treating Dylan as a cosmetic replacement for Jesse.
The ending explained
Full-spoiler summary: Dylan reaches the Hedron, confronts it and defeats or destroys it. Jesse intervenes at the decisive moment, but she is left apparently unconscious, described by ending accounts as being in a coma-like state. The immediate Patterning crisis is weakened, yet the phenomenon’s broader effects are not erased or fully explained.
Dylan’s confrontation with the Hedron
The finale brings Dylan’s personal and supernatural conflicts together. Reaching the Hedron means confronting the source or focal point of the resonance crisis, not simply defeating another manifestation in Manhattan. Dylan survives the confrontation, which is significant because his history has repeatedly placed him in situations where other people made decisions about his body and abilities. Here, he acts rather than merely being acted upon.

Jesse’s intervention
Jesse appears at the decisive point and helps determine the outcome. Her intervention prevents the finale from becoming a simple Dylan-versus-Hedron victory. The siblings’ connection is what allows the crisis to be checked, but Jesse pays a severe price: she is not shown returning to ordinary consciousness. Accounts describe her as apparently unconscious or comatose, and no searched official source gives a definitive long-term prognosis.
What changes after the fight
Destroying or defeating the Hedron weakens the immediate Patterning emergency. Manhattan is no longer presented as being under exactly the same pressure as before the confrontation, but the ending does not promise a clean restoration. Paranatural risk remains, and the consequences of Patterning are left open. Dylan’s future relationship with the Hiss and his own altered status are likewise unsettled.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the ending leaves unresolved
Is Jesse alive, and will she wake up?
The released ending leaves Jesse apparently unconscious or in a coma-like condition. That is the most specific conclusion supported by the ending accounts. It does not establish whether she will recover, remain incapacitated or be changed by the Patterning. Treating her fate as definitively resolved goes beyond what the ending shows.
Is Patterning gone?
No. The final confrontation reduces the immediate crisis, but Patterning’s wider consequences remain. The game closes the urgent threat without explaining every rule behind the phenomenon or proving that reality has returned to normal.
What happens to Dylan and the Hiss?
Dylan survives, but the ending does not place him safely outside the paranormal system that shaped his life. Ongoing risk remains, and his final status is intentionally more open than a conventional “cure” or return-to-normal ending.

CONTROL Resonant compared with the original CONTROL
| Story element | CONTROL | CONTROL Resonant |
|---|---|---|
| Protagonist | Jesse Faden | Dylan Faden |
| Primary setting | The Oldest House, an interior labyrinth | Manhattan streets and shifting spaces |
| Combat identity | Service Weapon and Jesse’s telekinetic abilities | Aberrant, shapeshifting forms and more melee-oriented abilities |
| Central narrative question | Jesse investigates the Hiss and searches for Dylan | Dylan searches for Jesse while confronting the Patterning crisis |
| Mystery structure | The Hiss outbreak and the Polaris mystery | The Hedron, Patterning and the reversal of the siblings’ rescue roles |
The comparison is more than a list of changed mechanics. The first game follows Jesse entering an institution to rescue Dylan and discovering her own authority. The sequel places Dylan in the position of the rescuer, forcing him to decide what kind of person he will be after a lifetime of being controlled by other people and paranormal forces.
Release details and who should play it

- Choose it for the story: if you want a supernatural mystery centered on a missing sibling, the Dylan–Jesse reversal is the defining hook.
- Choose it for exploration: Manhattan’s shifting spaces expand the setting beyond the Oldest House’s interior architecture.
- Expect unresolved questions: the ending closes the Hedron confrontation but deliberately leaves Jesse’s recovery, Patterning’s future and Dylan’s paranormal status uncertain.
- Plan your time: the main campaign is estimated at 25–35 hours, with additional content for completionists.
Within three weeks of release, Remedy reported one million copies sold; PC Gamer described that result as the company’s fastest-selling game at that point. That figure reflects sales performance, not a guarantee that every player will prefer the sequel’s more open, city-scale structure to the first game’s concentrated Oldest House setting.
