For most teams, start with 5 Swift Chocolate. A June 2026 build guide recommends the cooldown-first setup so Black Sapphire Cookie can deliver his Poison support and debuffs more often. Choose 3 Swift Chocolate + 2 Juicy Apple Jelly if you want a balance of skill uptime and personal damage or healing, or use a Raspberry build to emphasize ATK. For his Beascuit, aim for a Legendary Poisonous Hearty Beascuit with Poison DMG, ATK, Cooldown, and DMG Resist.
Which toppings should you use?
Black Sapphire Cookie is an Epic, Middle-position Support Cookie. His value comes primarily from enabling Poison-focused teams: his skill applies Poison, amplifies debuffs, reduces enemy DEF, heals Poison-type allies, and boosts their damage. The June 2026 build guide therefore treats Cooldown as the foundation of his setup, rather than assuming he should be built only for personal damage.
| Build | Choose it when | What it prioritizes |
|---|---|---|
| 5 Swift Chocolate | You want the cooldown-first default recommended by the June 2026 guide. | Cooldown and more frequent skill use. Use useful ATK, CRIT, and DMG Resist substats where available. |
| 3 Swift Chocolate + 2 Juicy Apple Jelly | You want a hybrid rather than maximizing cooldown alone. | Three Chocolate pieces retain some cooldown focus; Apple Jelly adds CRIT for personal Poison contribution. ATK can also support his ATK-scaled healing. |
| 5 Searing Raspberry or 5 Deceitful Raspberry | You want to emphasize ATK and prefer the Raspberry-focused recommendations in other guides. | ATK, while keeping Cooldown and DMG Resist in view. Pocket Gamer lists those as priority substats; The Escapist recommends five Searing Raspberry M Toppings with a matching Tart. |
These are guide recommendations, not a tested universal ranking. The choice is a tradeoff: cooldown helps him deliver team-enabling effects more often, while ATK and CRIT emphasize his own contribution and ATK-scaled healing. DMG Resist can help him stay on the field; the build guide does not establish precise substat targets, so avoid treating any exact percentage as mandatory. See the June 2026 cooldown and hybrid guide and Pocket Gamer’s Raspberry-oriented build.
Which Beascuit is best for Black Sapphire Cookie?
Pocket Gamer recommends a Legendary Poisonous Hearty Beascuit. Look for a useful balance of Poison DMG, ATK, Cooldown, and DMG Resist: Poison DMG and ATK support his personal contribution, Cooldown supports skill frequency, and DMG Resist supports survival. The source does not establish exact substat amounts to pursue, so prioritize the combination that fits your build rather than chasing an unsupported numerical target.

Why cooldown matters for his team role
Black Sapphire’s skill is valuable beyond its Poison damage. Pocket Gamer’s February 2025 guide lists a 15-second base cooldown and describes debuff amplification, enemy DEF reduction based on the number of Poison-type Cookies, healing for Poison-type allies, and a Poison damage bonus while Black Sapphire remains on the field. Its listed values include +25% Amplified Debuffs for 15 seconds, -20% enemy DEF per Poison-type Cookie up to -80%, healing equal to 103.5% of ATK, and +35% allied Poison-type damage while he is present. These are figures reported by that guide, not independently verified current-game measurements; the newer cooldown-first recommendation reflects the importance of having his support effects available.
Black Sapphire is better understood as a team enabler than as a dedicated healer: he does heal Poison-type allies, but the June 2026 guide emphasizes his DEF reduction, debuff amplification, and Poison-team bonus as the main reasons to include him. That framing is the guide’s interpretation of his role, not an official role change.

When does the Deceitful Trio help?
Consider pairing Black Sapphire with Candy Apple Cookie and Shadow Milk Cookie for their Deceitful Trio synergy. Pocket Gamer recommends the trio together. The live Cookie Run Wiki says Candy Apple Cookie alone activates some effects, while the extra Poison stack and stronger healing require both Candy Apple and Shadow Milk. In other words, the full trio is an option for the stronger linked effects, but not every effect depends on all three being present. See the Cookie Run Wiki’s Black Sapphire Cookie reference.
What to know about Topping Sets
The official September 23, 2026 update notice says a Topping Set combines five Toppings and a Topping Tart. A Cookie can equip a set from level 30, once all five Topping slots are unlocked, and the notice describes upgrades to +12. It explains the current equipment system, not a Black Sapphire-specific endorsement of any topping loadout. Check the official September 23 update notice.

Why this guide avoids a precise Poison damage cap
Published references do not agree on one stable Poison damage cap. Pocket Gamer’s 2025 article lists 88.3%, while sections of the live Cookie Run Wiki show 44.6% in one normal-skill section and 92.7% for a full Deceitful Trio section. Those sources may describe different levels or states, and they do not establish one current value. For a build decision, the more reliable takeaway is the role of Poison synergy and team support, not a cap number that could mislead across game states.
