The CoolBitts ICEbox was a specialist single-phase immersion-cooling kit demonstrated and offered in 2019, not a confirmed current product. It submerged key PC components in dielectric coolant and used a pump, radiator and fans to carry heat away. CoolBitts says demand was insufficient to continue development; current availability is unverified.

How the CoolBitts ICEbox worked

Unlike two-phase immersion systems, which boil and condense their fluid, the ICEbox used single-phase cooling: a pump circulated coolant through the system, while a radiator and fans dissipated heat. The design supported mini-ITX or micro-ATX motherboards. The power supply, graphics card, processor and memory sat in the coolant; the motherboard’s rear I/O remained outside it so ports could be accessed.

AnandTech’s December 30, 2019 report described a kit containing the chassis, power meter, rear I/O panel, PCIe tray, radiator, pump, fans and coolant. The fluid was EC-120 from Electrocool, and the kit reportedly included five gallons. The computer components themselves were not included. AnandTech’s 2019 ICEbox report gives the demonstration and kit details.

What the 2019 demonstration showed

At Supercomputing 2019, the system was demonstrated with a 32-core AMD Threadripper 2990WX and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. AnandTech reported a peak power draw of 618 W and coolant sensor readings of 30°C after a few minutes. The system was described as designed for up to 750 W.

ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 - AIO CPU Cooler,3 x 120 mm Water Cooling
  • CONTACT FRAME FOR INTEL LGA1851 | LGA1700: Optimized contact pressure distribution for longer CPU life and better heat dissipation
  • ARCTIC's P12 PRO FAN: More power at any speed - more powerful and quieter than the P12, especially at low speeds. Higher maximum speed for optimal cooling performance under high load
  • NATIVE OFFSET MOUNTING FOR INTEL AND AMD: Shifting the cold plate center towards the CPU hotspot ensures more efficient heat transfer
  • INTEGRATED VRM FAN: PWM-controlled fan that lowers the temperature of the voltage converters and thus ensures reliable performance
  • INTEGRATED CABLE MANAGEMENT: The PWM cables of the radiator fans are integrated in the sheathing of the hoses so that only a single visible cable is connected to the motherboard

These are figures from a brief trade-show demonstration reported in 2019—not a controlled comparison, a sustained stress test or an independently reproduced benchmark. The report did not state ambient temperature, so the coolant reading cannot establish how the ICEbox would perform in a particular room or over prolonged gaming sessions. Geeknetic also reported the configuration and stated capacity in its December 31, 2019 coverage.

Historical price and present availability

The launch-era price reported by AnandTech and Geeknetic was $2,450 plus sales tax for the kit; PC components cost extra. That is a 2019 figure, not a current quote or an indication of what a used unit might cost.

CoolBitts’ official website says the initial IceBox was a technical success, but demand after its introduction at SuperCompute-2019 was insufficient to continue product development. The company says it now pursues product and prototype development projects on a consulting basis. The site does not confirm ICEbox stock, coolant stock, retailer availability or a current purchase route, so treat the product’s present availability as unverified.

What immersion cooling means for a gaming PC

Immersion changes the whole system layout rather than simply replacing a CPU cooler. The ICEbox immersed several major components, while retaining an accessible rear I/O panel and relying on a dedicated fluid-circulation and heat-rejection setup. That makes compatibility and serviceability central concerns: the product was designed around mini-ITX or micro-ATX boards, and the reported kit used a specified coolant and purpose-built enclosure.

For a typical gaming PC, air cooling or a closed or custom liquid loop keeps components out of a tank of fluid and follows a more familiar assembly model. Immersion instead entails sourcing the appropriate enclosure and fluid, planning component fit and access, and maintaining the circulation and radiator system. HardZone’s 2023 explainer on immersion cooling discusses the specialized fluid and added complexity of this approach; those general observations are not manufacturer guarantees about ICEbox ownership.

The available ICEbox reporting does not establish lower temperatures, quieter operation, or better gaming performance than a specific air cooler or liquid loop. The 30°C coolant reading lacks a stated ambient temperature and matched comparison, while the 618 W figure describes the demonstrated system’s peak draw—not a comparative cooling result. Any performance verdict beyond those reported observations would be unsupported.

Is the ICEbox a practical option now?

Not as a confirmed off-the-shelf purchase based on the available information. CoolBitts’ statement indicates product development did not continue after demand proved insufficient, and its site describes consulting-basis development work instead. Anyone pursuing an ICEbox or a custom immersion project would need to contact CoolBitts directly to confirm whether the service is available, what it covers, and whether any hardware or fluid can be supplied.

Do not assume a generic PC case, pump or coolant is a compatible substitute: the cited sources do not verify replacement parts or a current ICEbox-compatible retail ecosystem. The historical kit price and demonstration figures are useful for understanding what the project was, but they do not establish today’s cost, availability or real-world comparative performance.
