Short answer: Core Keeper has no skill-point allocation screen. Skills increase automatically when you perform their associated activity. For a multiplayer group, have the player focused on opening the world train Mining, while a frontline fighter naturally prioritizes Melee Combat and Vitality. There is no verified, universal multiplayer skill order, so your team should assign priorities according to roles, current bottlenecks and game version.

Core Keeper skills do not use spendable points
Core Keeper’s progression is activity-based. You do not receive a pool of points and then distribute them among a skill tree. Instead, a skill gains experience when you perform the action associated with it. Mining improves while you damage walls; combat-related skills improve while you fight. This makes your early priorities less about visiting a level-up menu and more about deciding who performs which jobs in the settlement and on expeditions.

That distinction matters in multiplayer. A player who spends most of a session mining will not progress at the same rate as a player who spends that session fighting, even if both characters have the same amount of playtime. Your group can therefore accelerate useful progression by giving each person a clear role rather than having everybody perform every task indiscriminately.
What is confirmed about the current skill system

Because the skill list has changed, do not rely on an Early Access guide for a complete present-day roster. Those figures should not be treated as a definitive count for every patch.

The best starting priorities for a multiplayer team
If your group wants a simple opening plan, use this division of labor:
- Choose an explorer and train Mining. This player handles wall-breaking and opens routes, rooms and resource areas.
- Choose one or more frontline fighters and train Melee Combat. Their regular job is to land melee hits, so their normal play naturally produces the relevant experience.
- Let the players who defeat enemies consistently build Vitality. Vitality experience is tied to defeating enemies, making it a practical combat progression target rather than a separate menu choice.
- Add Explosives only when your version includes the tree and your group actually uses that style. It is a specialized path, not a universal first pick.
This is a role-based recommendation, not an officially verified multiplayer sequence. No available source establishes that every group should level the same skills in the same order. A team with two dedicated miners will make a different choice from a group that already has an explorer but lacks a reliable fighter.
Mining: the first priority for an exploration-focused player
How Mining gains experience
Mining gains experience from damaging walls. The practical implication is straightforward: the player assigned to excavation should do most of the wall-breaking instead of having four players chip at the same tunnel. Concentrating that activity gives one character a clear progression role while the other players scout, fight or manage other tasks.
Why teams often start with Mining
Exploration is a shared bottleneck. A group cannot reach new areas until somebody opens paths, and the player performing that work is already carrying out the action that advances Mining. A guide describes level 100 Mining as providing +100 mining damage. That figure belongs to the guide’s stated progression model; it should not be assumed to apply unchanged if a later patch alters the skill or talent system.
Mining assignment checklist
- Give one player primary responsibility for breaking walls during early expeditions.
- Have that player lead route-opening trips when the team’s immediate goal is access to new terrain or resources.
- Do not interpret a slow Mining level as a bug if the player is spending most of the session in combat; experience follows the activity performed.
- Reassign the role when the group’s limiting factor changes from access to survival or damage.
Melee Combat and Vitality: the foundation for a frontline fighter
Melee Combat
Melee Combat gains experience from landing melee hits. A player using close-range attacks should therefore keep fighting normally rather than searching for a separate training action. If your team has a designated melee fighter, allowing that player to take the majority of close-range engagements creates a consistent path for this skill.

Vitality
Vitality gains experience from defeating enemies. This is a different trigger from Melee Combat: landing hits advances the melee skill, while the enemy’s defeat advances Vitality. A frontline character who both connects with attacks and finishes enemies can progress both naturally, but the two skills should not be treated as interchangeable.

- Use Melee Combat as the first combat focus for a player whose normal role is close-range damage.
- Expect Vitality to follow the player who secures enemy defeats, regardless of whether the team describes that person as the tank, brawler or damage dealer.
- Do not promise identical levels among teammates: different kill counts and different amounts of melee contact produce different experience totals.
- If a player changes from melee to another combat style, reassess which activity is actually producing that character’s experience.
Explosives: a specialized option added after version 1.0
Explosives was introduced in version 1.1.0.1 on March 10, 2025. The update added eight new skills in the Explosives tree, so launch-era guides that discuss the 1.0 skill system cannot describe it as part of the original roster.
An era-specific Steam guide claims that Explosives can reach level 100 in under an hour through boss fights. That is a version-specific player guide rather than a universal benchmark. The claim does not establish a guaranteed time for every world, difficulty, build or patch, and it should not be used as the basis for a team-wide opening order.
When Explosives makes sense
- Your world is running version 1.1.0.1 or a later release that still contains the tree.
- A player is intentionally building around explosive attacks rather than merely carrying explosives as an occasional tool.
- The group already has adequate exploration and close-range coverage.
- You are willing to verify current behavior in the in-game skill descriptions or current patch notes before committing a character to the route.
For most groups, Explosives is a specialization to add after the basic explorer and frontline roles are covered. It is not evidence that every multiplayer character should ignore Mining, Melee Combat or Vitality.
Magic, Summoning and newer playstyles
The 1.0 release added mage and warlock playstyles, and later skill lists mention Magic and Summoning. However, the available material does not establish a verified multiplayer leveling order for those paths. It also does not provide reliable activity-to-experience instructions for choosing between them.

Use the same rule that governs every other path: identify the action your player will perform most often, check that the current version associates the desired skill with that action, and let the role develop through normal play. Do not substitute an Early Access recommendation for a current description when the roster has changed.
A practical order for common team compositions
The following plans are decision frameworks, not official rankings. They translate the confirmed activity triggers into workable party assignments.
Two-player team: explorer and fighter

Swap duties when the immediate problem changes. If the route is open but enemies are stopping progress, the explorer can help fight; if the team is safe but blocked by terrain, the fighter can temporarily support excavation. The important point is to know which activity is advancing which character.
Three- or four-player team: one explorer, multiple fighters
- Keep one player as the primary miner so wall-breaking progression is not split without purpose.
- Give melee-focused players the encounters that let them land regular hits.
- Let the players who secure kills build Vitality rather than assuming the miner will gain the same combat progression.
- Use the remaining slot for a different playstyle only after the group’s exploration and survival needs are covered.
Team with no dedicated explorer
Assign Mining temporarily to whoever spends the most time opening paths. Without a designated miner, progress can become difficult to predict because every player performs small amounts of wall damage and nobody receives concentrated advancement. Revisit the assignment after the first expedition rather than treating the initial choice as permanent.

Do not force a player into Melee Combat solely because it is a common recommendation. The evidence supports Melee Combat for players who land melee hits, not as a universal requirement. Select the combat activity that matches the class or style your group is actually using, and verify the current skill description for that path.

What to do about Fishing, Cooking and Farming
The available sources do not resolve a reliable priority order for Fishing, Cooking or Farming. That means a confident ranking would be speculation. Treat these as needs-based activities:
- Prioritize the activity when it solves a problem your settlement currently has.
- Assign the work to the player who will perform it regularly, since skill progress follows activity.
- Do not promise that one of these skills is objectively “best first” without a current, version-specific source establishing the benefit and progression trigger.
This approach avoids wasting a character’s intended role merely to chase an internet ranking that may belong to an older build or update.
Talent points: why older advice can mislead you
An older guide says that five skill levels award a Talent Point. The claim may describe an earlier system and is not reliable enough to use as a current rule. If your version presents a talent interface, read the in-game wording and current patch documentation before planning around a five-level conversion. Do not reset a multiplayer build or delay a role because an old guide promises a point at a specific interval.
How to build a leveling plan before each session
- Identify the patch. Confirm whether the world is on the 1.0-era system or a later version containing Explosives and other changes.
- Name the immediate bottleneck. Decide whether the party is blocked by access, enemy defeats or a specific activity such as farming or cooking.
- Assign ownership. Choose one player to perform the activity that advances the desired skill instead of distributing every task evenly.
- Play normally for one expedition. Mining, melee hits and enemy defeats all produce progress through ordinary actions; a separate grinding menu is not required.
- Review the result. Check which character actually gained the relevant skill experience and adjust roles if the outcome does not match the plan.
- Recheck after patches. Skill trees and progression systems can change, so treat old level caps, counts and talent formulas as historical until confirmed for your build.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Expecting a skill-point screen
Symptom: You are searching for unspent points or waiting for a manual allocation prompt.
Correction: Perform the matching activity. The system described by the available guides advances skills through use.
Giving every job to every player
Symptom: Nobody’s role-specific skill is progressing quickly, and the party cannot explain why levels differ.
Correction: Concentrate Mining, melee engagement or kill responsibility on the player assigned to that role.

Using a launch guide for a post-1.1 world
Symptom: A guide omits Explosives or describes a smaller skill roster than the game displays.
Correction: Check the version. Explosives arrived in 1.1.0.1 on March 10, 2025, after the August 27, 2024 1.0 release.
Treating an old talent formula as permanent
Symptom: Your character does not receive a Talent Point after exactly five levels.
Correction: Treat that formula as outdated unless the current game version explicitly confirms it.
Assuming a multiplayer meta has been proven
Symptom: A player presents one order as mandatory for every party.
Correction: There is no verified multiplayer-specific order in the available evidence. Use roles, playstyles and team needs to choose.
Version and evidence boundaries
The strongest conclusions are limited but useful: activity determines skill progression; Mining fits an exploration role; Melee Combat and Vitality fit the documented combat triggers; and Explosives is a post-1.0 addition. The exact total number of skills, the universal level cap and the Talent Point formula are less secure because the descriptions come from different points in the game’s development.
No published statistic or verbatim quotation from a named official source establishes a single best multiplayer build. Accordingly, the recommendations here are transparent role-planning guidance rather than a claim that one sequence has been experimentally proven superior.

For a new multiplayer world, assign one player to Mining and let that person lead early route-opening work. Give close-range combat to a player who will consistently land melee hits, while the player who secures enemy defeats develops Vitality. Add an Explosives specialist only in a version that includes the tree and only when the team’s actual playstyle supports it. Leave Fishing, Cooking and Farming decisions to the settlement’s immediate needs because no reliable source establishes a universal order for them.
If your party changes jobs, the skill progression changes with it. Reassigning roles is therefore more important than preserving a fixed ranking copied from an older guide.
