What Australia’s GTA 6 classification says
The Australian Classification Board’s Rockstar-specific record for Grand Theft Auto VI gives the game an R18+ classification dated August 27, 2026. Its consumer advice is “High impact violence, sex scenes and drug use.” That wording identifies content concerns but does not describe the scenes in detail or establish their explicitness, whether they involve nudity, or how they work in play.

The key distinction is between an age-restricted classification and a ban. The Board says R18+ films and computer games are “legally restricted to adults 18 years and over.” Refused Classification is a different outcome: under the Australian Government’s Guidelines for the Classification of Computer Games 2023, a game that exceeds the R18+ category is Refused Classification.
Does Australia ban sex scenes in R18+ games?
No. The 2023 guidelines say, “Depictions of actual sexual activity are not permitted” at R18+, while “Depictions of simulated sexual activity may be permitted.” The guidelines also rule out simulated sexual activity that is explicit and realistic. These are the standards used for classification; they are not a scene-by-scene account of GTA 6.

The Board’s “sex scenes” descriptor should therefore be reported as written, not expanded into claims about exactly what players will see. The classification record establishes the category and its consumer advice, but that short wording alone does not settle the scenes’ specific content.
How the North American rating differs
The ESRB lists Grand Theft Auto VI as Mature 17+ in North America, with descriptors including “Strong Sexual Content” and “Nudity.” Those are the ESRB’s rating and content descriptors, not Australian classification terms. The two systems use different categories and wording, so their labels should not be treated as directly interchangeable measurements.

Why another Australian listing may cause confusion
A separate Australian Classification Board result titled “GTA 6 GRAND THEFT AUTO 6” is a generic IARC Global Rating Tool entry dated August 31, 2026. It shows PG and the advice “Mild Violence, In-Game Purchases, Online Interactivity and Chat,” with developer and publisher unspecified. The available record does not explain its relationship to Rockstar’s release. For the Rockstar game, the relevant title-specific record names Rockstar Games and gives the R18+ classification; the generic PG result should not be merged with it.

Based on the Board’s published Rockstar-specific record, GTA 6 is classified for adults rather than banned because of its sex scenes. The R18+ classification is an access restriction, while Refused Classification is the separate outcome the guidelines describe for games that exceed the category. That conclusion concerns the classification record dated August 27, 2026; ratings-board entries can change.
