But Rockstar attributed the schedule change to needing more time to polish the game, while the dismissals and the company’s reasons for them remained contested in an employment tribunal as of October 8, 2026.
What is known about the GTA 6 delay
On November 6, 2025, Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto VI would move from its planned May 26, 2026 release to November 19, 2026. The company’s stated reason was that it needed additional time to finish the game to the level of polish players expect. In its announcement, Rockstar said: “these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.” PC Gamer reported the announcement and the revised date.
That is the public explanation for the schedule change. The reporting available here does not establish that the employment dispute affected development, the release date, or Rockstar’s communications about the game. The revised date was announced a week after the dismissals were reported, but sequence alone does not show cause.
What happened to the dismissed Rockstar workers
On October 30, 2025, more than 30 UK Rockstar staff were dismissed, according to the IWGB, as reported by ITV News the following day. The union said the workers were dismissed because of trade-union activity. Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, initially described the dismissals as gross misconduct. Its head of global corporate communications, Alan Lewis, told ITV: “Rockstar Games terminated a small number of individuals for gross misconduct, and for no other reason.”

Rockstar later said the workers were dismissed after sharing confidential company information, and denied that union membership or activity was the reason. In September 2026, the company told Sky News: “Individuals across the UK and Canada were dismissed for gross misconduct following the sharing of confidential company information, not because of alleged trade union membership or activity. We reject the claims and will defend them vigorously before the tribunal.”
The workers and the company therefore offer competing accounts; neither should be treated as an established tribunal finding. The distinction matters when assessing claims that the dispute affected the game: the underlying allegations had not been resolved in court as of October 8, 2026.

What the employment tribunal had—and had not—decided
A hearing began in Glasgow on September 10, 2026. Sky News reported that 23 claimants were taking part and that some 34 people in the UK and Canada were believed to have been dismissed in October 2025. Rockstar said it would vigorously contest the claims. Game Developer reported that the hearing was expected to conclude on October 16, 2026. That was an anticipated date, not a judgment: as of October 8, the hearing had not yet reached it.
Separately, The Guardian reported on June 30, 2026 that Rockstar workers were working with the IWGB to seek formal union recognition. That effort is related to the wider labor dispute but is distinct from the tribunal case over the dismissals.

Does the dispute explain GTA 6’s lack of news?
That connection is also unproven. The reports cited here do not quantify Rockstar’s communications cadence or show that the labor dispute changed what the company chose to announce about GTA 6. Calling the game’s news flow a “lack” is an interpretation; it does not, by itself, demonstrate that any particular internal event caused it.
The former developer’s proposed link should therefore be understood as a theory, not a confirmed explanation. The available reporting does not identify the original interview or article containing that specific claim, so it cannot establish precisely what evidence the former developer offered. The public record described here supports the timing of the events and the parties’ opposing accounts, but not a causal conclusion.

Is GTA 6 still scheduled for 2026?
Rockstar’s announced release date is November 19, 2026, replacing the May 26, 2026 target. PC Gamer described the announcement as a console release and reported that a PC version had not been confirmed at that time. Those details describe the announcement reported in November 2025; they should not be read as confirmation of any later platform announcement.
