When did Counter-Strike 2 come out?
Valve released Counter-Strike 2 on September 27, 2023, describing it as available and free to play in its release notes for September 27, 2023. Its launch announcement that day was titled “Welcome Home” and declared, “Counter-Strike 2 is here.”
What did Valve’s teaser say?
On September 20, 2023, the official Counter-Strike account posted: “What are you doing next Wednesday?” Because the following Wednesday was September 27, the post suggested CS2 might launch then. But Valve did not name a release date in that teaser; the date was confirmed when the game became available a week later. Contemporaneous coverage likewise treated September 27 as a possibility, not an announcement.

Why Steam shows an older release date
The Steam store page displays August 21, 2012, but that is not CS2’s launch date. The listing explains that reviews posted before September 27, 2023 were for CS:GO, the legacy version. For the CS2 launch date, Valve’s September 27, 2023 announcement and release notes are the relevant records.
