Crab God is a single-player underwater strategy game for PC in which you guide a colony of Crablings through a migration, cultivate a reef and protect an egg. It suits players who enjoy balancing colony growth, resources and threats; the developer estimates a typical playthrough takes about 8–10 hours.

What kind of game is Crab God?

Developer Chaos Theory Games and publisher Firesquid describe Crab God as an atmospheric underwater strategy game. Released on Steam on June 20, 2024, it combines colony management with resource gathering and defensive play. You act as guardian of an ocean domain, directing Crablings as they grow, gather food, build a reef and fend off threats while keeping the next Crab God’s egg safe during a journey toward deeper waters. Steam’s store listing presents the game and its release details.

The central challenge is balancing the colony’s needs with the reef’s health and the egg’s safety. If the colony or egg is not sustained, the migration can restart. Obstacles include rising temperatures, invasive species and dangerous waste; these are themed game challenges, not a tool for measuring real ocean conditions. The developer’s press kit describes the game’s focus on ecosystem balance and biodiversity.

Steam’s user-defined tags include strategy, colony sim, resource management, tower defense, survival, roguelike and cozy. Those tags are player-facing store labels rather than a list of formal developer genre claims; the store classifies the game under adventure, indie, simulation and strategy.

Is Crab God multiplayer?

No. The official FAQ describes Crab God as single-player, so the colony and its decisions are handled by one player rather than through co-op or competitive multiplayer. The game is listed on Steam, which also supports achievements, cloud saves and Family Sharing. The developer FAQ and Steam listing provide the current product details.

What platforms can you play Crab God on?

The developer FAQ currently lists the game as PC-only. The available store listing is on Steam. The cited official materials do not establish a console version or other platform release, so check the developer FAQ or store page for any later availability changes.

What PC does Crab God require, and can you use a controller?

The developer FAQ lists Windows 10, 8GB of RAM and a dedicated graphics card with at least 2GB of VRAM. These are developer-published specifications and may change. The FAQ also says most PC game controllers are compatible, including Xbox controllers. A controller is optional; the developer does not identify a required or best model. Check the FAQ for the latest compatibility and requirements information.

How long does it take to finish Crab God?

The developer estimates a typical playthrough at around 8–10 hours. That is the FAQ’s general estimate, not a guaranteed completion time; your pace and play style can affect how long the migration takes. The official FAQ is the source for this estimate.

What does the conservation partnership mean?

The game’s Steam description and the developer press kit say that some in-game progression connects with real-world conservation activities through dots.eco. Described actions include reef restoration, ocean cleaning and tree planting. This is a developer-described partnership; the available materials do not independently verify individual environmental outcomes. The press kit explains the connection.

In a year-in-review post dated December 19, 2024, the Crab God team reported cumulative outcomes since launch. These are the team’s figures, not independently verified results in the cited sources:

  • 1,561 coral fragments restored
  • 651 trees planted
  • 1,525 pounds of plastic removed from oceans
  • 985 baby sea turtles saved
  • 7,060 kilograms of carbon offset
  • 1,217,000 square metres of marine area protected

The same December 2024 post also reported more than 290,000 Crablings hatched, more than 5 million threats vanquished, more than 12 million creature babies born and 1.9 million plants and corals grown. These are game-team statistics, not independent measures of conservation impact. The team’s Steam news archive contains the dated update.

A separate July 2024 developer update said 10% of the game’s revenue was put toward conservation activities associated with specific completed preservation rituals. That is a historical statement about July 2024, not evidence of a current or ongoing revenue allocation. The developer’s Steam news archive is the source for that update.

What is the Supporter Pack?

The game and Supporter Pack are digital Steam products. In an April 1, 2025 news post, the developer described the Supporter Pack as including the soundtrack, a unique skin and eyes for Crablings and the Crab God, printable crab origami and other extras. The cited sources do not establish a physical edition. See the Steam listing and developer news archive for current product details.
