Kole, a concept artist and former Toys for Bob artist, posted on X on July 13, 2024, while discussing another canceled game, Project Dragon. As reproduced by Video Games Chronicle, his post said: “It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was, and it’s gonna break hearts.”

Consequently, there is no confirmed information in these reports about when the project was canceled, how far development had progressed, or why it ended. They also do not establish a release date, platforms, story, or gameplay.
Was Crash 5 the same as Project Dragon?
No. Kole reportedly clarified that they were “two totally separate cancelled projects at two different studios,” as quoted by VGC. The Crash 5 comment surfaced during discussion of Project Dragon, but the two projects should not be treated as alternate names for the same game.

Which studio was making Crash 5?
The studio is not identified in the cited reports. Kole is a former Toys for Bob artist, and Toys for Bob made Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, but that connection does not establish that the studio developed Crash 5. GameSpot explicitly reported that the studio working on the fifth game was unknown; Insider Gaming likewise does not confirm Toys for Bob as its developer.

Game Developer reported on April 12, 2024, that Toys for Bob design director Toby Schadt had revealed that Crash Bandicoot 4 had sold over 5 million copies. That milestone concerns the released game, not the canceled project.
