What Create Aeronautics – Skybound is
Create Aeronautics – Skybound is a Minecraft Java Edition modpack for Minecraft 1.21.1 running on NeoForge. It is designed for both clients and dedicated servers. Its defining world-generation idea is a floating-island world: there is no conventional ground, so players build machines, transport systems and habitats that fly.

The project descriptions on Modrinth and CurseForge describe nearly 400 mods. Create Aeronautics and its principal add-ons form the mechanical core, while the wider pack adds automation, logistics, combat, quests, dimensions, mobs and animals. That combination matters for server planning: the installation is much heavier than a small collection of client-side quality-of-life mods, and first startup, world generation and memory use can all be substantial.
Requirements to decide before installation
- Edition: Minecraft Java Edition, not Bedrock Edition.
- Game version: Minecraft 1.21.1.
- Mod loader: NeoForge.
- Server memory: the project owner recommends a minimum of 10 GB of RAM for the server. Larger player counts may require more.
- Client memory: CurseForge’s instructions recommend assigning at least 8 GB to the client profile when loading or frame-rate problems occur.
- Disk space: the cited CurseForge server-pack ZIP is 952.8 MB, uploaded August 19, 2026. Allow additional space for the extracted files, generated world, logs, backups and future updates.
- Java runtime: use the Java runtime supported by the NeoForge installer and the current pack profile. The official project pages do not state a specific Java build, so do not assume a particular major version solely from the pack name.
The official pages do not publish a tested CPU model, a maximum player count, a storage benchmark or a reproducible server-performance result. Treat the 10 GB figure as a baseline recommendation, not a guarantee for a particular number of players or a particular host machine.

Download the correct server distribution
Why the CurseForge server pack is the important file
Modrinth states that server packs cannot be uploaded there and directs users to the CurseForge version for the full server experience. On CurseForge, look for the separate project entry named Create Aeronautics – Skybound (Server Pack), listed for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. Do not use a normal client profile, an older release, or an arbitrary collection of mod JARs copied from a client instance.
The server-pack listing cited for this guide is a 952.8 MB ZIP uploaded on August 19, 2026. CurseForge may show newer files after that date. Select the server pack whose Skybound release matches the client profile you intend to distribute, then record the release number and upload date so every player installs the same build.

- Minecraft must be 1.21.1.
- The mod loader must be NeoForge, using the loader version selected by the matching Skybound release.
- The Skybound server pack and each player’s client profile must be the same release.
A client on 1.21.1 with a different NeoForge build, or on a different Skybound release, can fail before joining even when the headline Minecraft version appears correct.
Install the dedicated server pack
The exact filenames inside a pack can change between releases, so use the launch or installation files included with the downloaded server pack rather than inventing a filename for the NeoForge JAR. The following sequence keeps the installation clean and makes later backups easier.
- Create a dedicated folder. Make a new folder used only for this server. Avoid placing it inside a player’s client profile, a downloads folder that is routinely cleaned, or another server’s directory.
- Download the matching server ZIP. Save the CurseForge server-pack file for the selected Skybound release and verify that it is the dedicated server pack, not the client profile.
- Extract everything. Unzip the archive directly into the new server folder. Preserve the directory structure and do not rename mod, configuration or script files.
- Run the supplied NeoForge setup or launch script. Packs commonly include a setup script, installer instructions or a generated start script. Run the file intended for your operating system from the server folder and allow it to place the NeoForge server components beside the pack files.
- Start once, then stop cleanly. The first launch can create configuration files and a world directory. If the console reports that the Minecraft EULA must be accepted, stop the process, open the generated
eula.txt, change only the acceptance value toeula=true, save it, and start again. - Set memory in the launch configuration. Allocate at least 10 GB to the Java process. If the supplied script uses JVM flags, a baseline equivalent to
-Xms10G -Xmx10Gexpresses that minimum; keep the pack’s other arguments intact. The machine must have additional memory for the operating system and other services, so do not assign all physical RAM to Minecraft. - Wait for a complete startup. Let the server reach its ready state before connecting. The first run may take longer while nearly 400 mods initialize and the floating-island world is generated.
- Record the working folder. Keep the server directory path, the selected release and the startup method in an administrator note. This prevents a later update from accidentally mixing files from two releases.
Configure access for your players
Once the server starts locally, test it from the host machine before changing network settings. Confirm that the console remains running, that a world is created, and that the client can log in with the matching profile.

For players outside the host’s local network, configure the operating-system firewall and router forwarding according to their documentation, then give players the address appropriate to the network. The official Skybound pages do not provide a router walkthrough or assert a particular port arrangement, so the exact steps depend on the operating system, router and hosting location. If the host is behind carrier-grade NAT or a restricted institutional network, ordinary forwarding may not work; use a managed server or a network service that supports inbound connections instead of repeatedly changing mod files.
Keep administrative access private. Use a whitelist if the server is not intended to be public, grant operator privileges only to trusted administrators, and never publish the server console, backup archive or configuration directory.
Set up every client to match
- Install or open the launcher that provides the Skybound client profile.
- Select the Skybound release that matches the server pack’s release number.
- Confirm that the profile reports Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge, not Fabric, Forge or another Minecraft version.
- Assign at least 8 GB of memory to the profile if the client has loading or frame-rate problems, following the CurseForge guidance. Do not confuse this client allocation with the server’s separate 10 GB minimum.
- Launch the profile once in single-player or the launcher test environment so its libraries and configuration files finish downloading before joining the server.
- Connect only after the server has completed startup. If the launcher offers to update the pack automatically, make sure the server administrator approves the same release before accepting the update.
Players should not copy a random client’s modified mods or config folders onto the server. Those folders can contain client-only changes and can make an otherwise valid installation harder to diagnose.

Memory and performance planning
Use 10 GB as a floor, not a promise
The project owner, Lupin, says: “Please note that for this modpack, we recommend a minimum of 10GB of RAM.” This is the published server recommendation for the pack, not a measured maximum-player specification. A server with more simultaneous players, larger explored areas, intensive Create machinery or several active dimensions can need additional headroom.

A machine with exactly 10 GB of total physical RAM cannot safely dedicate all of it to the Minecraft process. If the process repeatedly reaches its heap limit, the operating system swaps, or the console reports out-of-memory failures, increase available host memory or reduce the workload before adding more mods.
Why the pack is demanding
- Nearly 400 mods increase startup work and the number of registries loaded into memory.
- Create machinery can add continuous block updates, moving components and item or fluid logistics.
- Quests, dimensions, mobs and animals add world data and entity activity beyond a basic survival map.
- Floating-island generation can make exploration and chunk loading a central part of the server’s workload.
Do not use a single frame-rate observation from one client as a server benchmark. The official pages provide no reproducible FPS result, CPU test or storage test.

Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Both approaches can run a valid Skybound server. The right choice depends on whether you want control over files and networking or prefer an operator to provide the machine and control panel.

The project pages advertise a 25% hosting discount code, but code validity, terms, tracking URL and geographic eligibility can change. Verify those details directly before treating the promotion as part of your budget, and do not choose a host solely because a project page mentions it.

Backups, updates and safe administration
Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly before copying the world or changing the pack. Back up the world directory together with the server’s configuration and any administrator files you need to restore permissions or settings. Keep at least one backup away from the live machine; a second copy protects against disk failure, accidental deletion or a bad update.
Update as a coordinated release
- Note the current server and client Skybound release.
- Read the new release entry and obtain its matching dedicated server pack.
- Stop the server and create a dated backup.
- Install the new files in a separate staging folder rather than overwriting the working installation immediately.
- Apply only the documented migration steps, then test startup and a login before inviting players.
- Distribute the same release to every client and keep the old server folder until the new world has been verified.
Never update only the server or only the clients and expect the other side to remain compatible. A release change is a coordinated server-and-client change.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The server refuses to start
- Confirm that the archive was extracted completely and that the supplied NeoForge setup or launch files are being run from the server folder.
- Check that the EULA value is accepted after the first launch request.
- Verify that the machine has at least the recommended 10 GB available to the Java process plus operating-system headroom.
- Read the first error in the console or latest log rather than reacting to the final cascade of messages. Restore the last known-good backup if the failure began immediately after an update.
The client reports an incompatible mod or loader
- Compare Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge and the Skybound release on both sides.
- Make sure the client is using the Skybound profile, not a manually assembled profile with one different mod version.
- Remove accidental client-side edits and reinstall the matching profile if the launcher has partially updated it.
The server runs out of memory or becomes unstable
- Check that the Java heap is actually set to at least 10 GB in the active launch script, not only in an unused example file.
- Leave RAM for the operating system and control panel.
- Reduce simultaneous exploration and heavy machinery while observing logs, then add host memory if the workload genuinely exceeds the baseline.
- Do not claim a fixed player limit: the official project pages do not publish one.
Players cannot connect from outside the host
- Test locally first to separate a mod-loading problem from a network problem.
- Check the firewall, router forwarding and the address supplied to players.
- Confirm that the host’s network permits inbound connections. Carrier-grade NAT, institutional firewalls and changing public addresses can require a different hosting arrangement.
Client loading or FPS is poor
- Assign at least 8 GB to the CurseForge client profile as its instructions recommend.
- Close other memory-intensive applications and allow the initial mod and world loading process to finish.
- Keep expectations realistic: the pack’s nearly 400 mods and Create machinery make it heavier than a small vanilla-plus profile. The official pages do not provide a guaranteed FPS figure.
What the official information does not establish
Plan around the published facts, not assumptions. The project pages establish the Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge target, the dedicated CurseForge server-pack distribution, the nearly 400-mod scope, the 10 GB server recommendation, the 8 GB client guidance for loading or FPS problems, and the cited 952.8 MB server ZIP listing. They do not establish a tested CPU requirement, a specific Java runtime build, a maximum player count, a storage-performance threshold, a router port-forwarding procedure or a reproducible client FPS result.
If you need those figures for a public community, test your intended hardware, geographic player mix and modded workload before advertising capacity. Record the exact Skybound release, NeoForge version, memory allocation and world-generation conditions so the result can be reproduced after updates.
