What Create Eternal Journey requires
Create Eternal Journey is a CurseForge modpack by Cuberly for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge. Its progression combines the Create automation system with dungeons, bosses, farming, decoration, compatibility mods and more than 70 custom crafting scripts. The author describes it as a fantasy-world story in which a technically minded player learns to survive and understand magic through engineering.

CurseForge lists Create Eternal Journey 1.2.2.zip as the current client release and Create Eternal Journey 1.2.2 server.zip in the Minecraft 1.20 server-pack category. Both are dated August 7, 2026. The server archive is the important file for multiplayer: the regular client ZIP is not a substitute for it.
- A computer or hosting account capable of running a Java Minecraft server.
- The exact 1.2.2 server archive from the project’s CurseForge Files page.
- Java and any launcher/runtime requirements shown by the included start script or your hosting panel.
- A separate server directory rather than the folder used by your client installation.
- For every player, the same Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge and Create Eternal Journey 1.2.2 combination.
CurseForge’s displayed project page showed 56,118 downloads when checked in 2026. That number indicates the pack’s distribution at that time; it does not change the version and loader requirements above.

- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Download the correct server pack
- Open the Create Eternal Journey project on CurseForge and go to its Files area.
- Find the file named Create Eternal Journey 1.2.2 server.zip under the Minecraft 1.20 server packs.
- Download that archive without renaming files inside it.
- Create a new directory dedicated to the server. On Windows, an example is
C:MinecraftServer. On another operating system, use a directory that is easy to back up and that your server account can write to. - Extract the entire ZIP into that directory. Do not place the ZIP itself in your client’s
modsfolder and do not mix files from another modpack.
A server pack normally contains the server-side configuration, scripts and mod files already selected for the release. Starting from the server archive avoids the common mistake of copying a client installation and accidentally including mods that only render an interface or provide client controls.
First launch: generate files, accept the EULA and restart
The first launch is expected to behave differently from later launches. CurseForge’s multiplayer guidance says the included start or run file generates the initial files and then stops. Follow this sequence:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open the extracted server directory.
- Run the included start or run file. Use the file supplied by the archive rather than inventing a different command.
- Wait for the initial generation process to finish. A stop after this first pass is normal.
- In the same directory, open
eula.txtin a plain-text editor. - Change the line
eula=falsetoeula=true, then save the file. - Run the start or run file again and leave the server window open while people are playing.
If the process stops immediately on its first run, check eula.txt before changing anything else. The server cannot continue until the EULA has been accepted. If it still stops after that change, read the last lines in the server window or log for a version, Java or mod-loading error instead of repeatedly launching it.
Install the matching client on every player’s computer
Each player should install Create Eternal Journey through CurseForge and select the same 1.2.2 release, Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. A player using a different pack version, a different Minecraft version or another modloader can fail during the handshake, disconnect while joining or see missing content.
- Open the CurseForge launcher and locate Create Eternal Journey.
- Select release 1.2.2 for Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
- Let the launcher install the profile and its client files.
- Launch the profile once locally so the game creates its client configuration.
- Choose Multiplayer, add the server address and connect.
Do not blindly copy every client installation into the server. CurseForge specifically warns that client-side mods are generally unnecessary on a dedicated server and can prevent it from working. Keep the server’s supplied mods directory intact unless you are deliberately correcting a known compatibility problem.

Connect locally, over a home network or over the internet
Playing on the same computer
Start the server, open the matching client profile and add localhost as the server address. This routes the client to the server running on that same machine.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Playing on the same home network
Use the host computer’s local IP address and the server port. If the server uses the default port, the address is the local IP followed by :25565, although many clients can infer the default port when it is omitted. The other computers must be connected to the same home network, and the host computer’s firewall must permit the Java server process to receive connections.
Allowing friends over the internet
Forward TCP port 25565 from the router to the computer running the server. Then give friends the host’s public IPv4 address with :25565 appended. The public address is different from the host’s private address, such as 192.168.x.x, which only works inside the home network.
Port forwarding requires three pieces to agree: the router rule, the operating-system firewall rule and the address given to players. If any one is wrong, local players may connect while remote players time out. A relay service such as Playit.gg can avoid direct router forwarding, but CurseForge notes a stability caveat for that approach; test it with your group before relying on it for a long session.
Keep a private server private
Before inviting anyone, open the server configuration and confirm online-mode=true. This keeps account authentication enabled and should remain the default for an internet-facing server.

How much RAM does Create Eternal Journey need?
Client allocation
Cuberly’s explicit client recommendation is 8 GB of allocated RAM. CurseForge launcher documentation says modpacks default to 4 GB and warns against allocating more than 75% of a computer’s total memory. Therefore, allocate 8 GB only when the computer has enough physical RAM left for the operating system, the launcher and background applications. A machine with exactly 8 GB total memory should not devote all of it to Minecraft.
In the CurseForge launcher, open the Minecraft settings for the profile, find the Java or memory allocation control, set a value that respects the 75-percent limit, save it and launch the profile again. If the launcher’s available maximum is below 8 GB, close other applications first or use a computer with more total memory rather than forcing the setting.
Server allocation
The project does not publish a separate fixed server-memory minimum. Do not treat the client’s 8 GB recommendation as a guaranteed server requirement. Server demand changes with the number of players, simulation distance, simultaneous chunk loading, world generation and other activity.
Recommended Free Tools
Start with a reasonable allocation permitted by the machine or hosting plan, then monitor the server while players explore and generate terrain. Persistent tick delays, long pauses during exploration or repeated out-of-memory errors indicate that the workload exceeds the current allocation or another bottleneck is present. Lowering simulation or view distance, reducing concurrent activity and moving to a machine with more available memory are workload decisions; there is no single published number that fits every group.

Version and mod-loader compatibility
The server and all clients must match on all three identifiers:
| Component | Required value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | 1.20.1 | The pack’s files and scripts target this game version. |
| Modloader | Forge | Mods are selected and resolved for Forge; another loader is not interchangeable. |
| Create Eternal Journey release | 1.2.2 | Registry entries, configs and custom recipes must match between server and clients. |
CurseForge explains that compatibility depends on the selected modloader as well as the Minecraft version. If a player cannot join, verify these values before changing individual mods. Mixing releases can produce missing registry entries, rejected connections or a world that loads with absent content.
Self-hosting versus a managed host
Self-hosting is appropriate when you control a computer that can stay online and are comfortable with router and firewall settings. A managed host is easier when you want the provider to handle the public address, machine maintenance and panel controls. Neither option removes the requirement for the exact Forge 1.20.1 pack files.
| Decision factor | Self-hosted at home | Managed Minecraft host |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly cost | No separate server rental bill; electricity and existing internet costs still apply. | A recurring plan charge; the amount depends on the provider, resources and billing term. |
| Setup effort | Download, extract, run, configure the EULA, firewall and usually port forwarding. | Create a server in the provider panel, select a compatible Forge setup and upload or install the pack. |
| Router exposure | Normally requires forwarding port 25565 and allowing it through the host firewall. | Players use the provider’s address; your home router does not need an inbound game port. |
| Uptime | Available only while the host computer, server process and home connection remain running. | Can remain online independently of your home computer while the plan is active, subject to the provider’s service limits. |
| Player capacity | Limited by your CPU, memory, storage, upload bandwidth and world workload. | Limited by the selected resources or player tier; choose a plan for your expected group. |
| Backups | You control when and where world copies are made, but you must perform them. | Panel backup tools may be available; confirm retention, download access and restoration steps. |
| Geographic latency | Usually best for players near the home connection; distant players depend on your upload route. | Choose a data-center region close to most players, if the provider offers regions. |
| Forge and pack support | You control the exact 1.20.1 Forge files and can use the supplied server ZIP directly. | Confirm before paying that the host supports Forge 1.20.1 and can run or upload Create Eternal Journey 1.2.2. |
What a managed host setup usually involves
CurseForge’s multiplayer guidance recommends choosing a plan based on expected player count and Minecraft version, starting the server once to generate its files, and using the host panel’s upload tools if you already have a world. The exact buttons differ by provider, so verify that the panel lets you select Forge 1.20.1 or upload the supplied server archive rather than installing a vanilla server.
After the first start, stop the instance before replacing files or uploading a world. Preserve a local copy of the world and configuration so a failed upload or incompatible host setting does not become the only copy.

Realms is not a suitable option
Realms is Mojang’s hosted server service, but it cannot provide the required world-side modded features for Create Eternal Journey. A Realms world therefore cannot run this pack as a normal dedicated Forge server. Choose self-hosting, a compatible managed Forge host or a tested relay arrangement instead.
Safe migration and release changes
When moving from a home server to a host, or when adopting a newer pack release, protect the world first:
- Stop the running server cleanly and wait until the console confirms that it has finished saving.
- Copy the entire world directory and the server configuration to a separate backup location.
- Install the target server pack in a separate directory or provider instance instead of overwriting the working copy immediately.
- Confirm the Minecraft, Forge and pack versions on the new instance.
- Start the new instance, verify that the world loads and test with one player before inviting the whole group.
- Keep the old working directory until the new server has been stable and the backup has been checked.
Do not open a world with a different mod set and assume it can be reversed. A version change can alter registries, recipes and world data; a verified backup is the recovery path.
Troubleshooting checklist
The server stops immediately on first launch
- Open
eula.txtand confirm it readseula=true. - Save the file as plain text in the server directory, then run the supplied start or run file again.
- If it still stops, inspect the final console lines for a Java, Forge or file-path error.
A player cannot join
- Check that the player installed Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge and Create Eternal Journey 1.2.2.
- Make sure the server itself is running the same release and has not been mixed with another pack’s files.
- For a home server, use
localhostonly on the host computer, the host’s local IP on the home network and the public IPv4 address for internet players. - For remote players, verify port 25565 forwarding, firewall permissions and the
address:25565format. - If a whitelist is enabled, add the player’s exact approved username.
The server fails after mods were added manually
Remove client-only additions and restore the server pack’s original mod set. Client-side mods are generally unnecessary on a dedicated server and can stop it from loading. Reintroduce any change only when you know that the mod supports dedicated-server use and the exact Forge version.
Jade information is missing in-game
Cuberly’s project guidance says to equip engineer’s goggles when Jade information does not appear. This is a pack-specific gameplay requirement, not an indication that the server is missing a mod.
The pack crashes
The author’s first advice is to restart the game and server. If the crash persists, record when it occurs and seek help through the project’s Discord community with the relevant log details. Before asking, note the Minecraft version, Forge version, pack release and whether the crash happens during launch, world loading or a particular action.
Launch-day checklist
- Downloaded Create Eternal Journey 1.2.2 server.zip, not the client ZIP.
- Extracted it into a dedicated server directory.
- Ran the included start or run file once and accepted the EULA.
- Started the server again and left its console running during play.
- Installed Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge and release 1.2.2 on every client.
- Kept client-only mods out of the server’s
modsfolder. - Set
online-mode=true; enabled the whitelist for a private group. - Used the correct address for local, LAN or internet players.
- Forwarded port 25565 and checked firewall rules if friends connect remotely.
- Allocated up to the author’s 8 GB client recommendation only when total system memory allows it; treated server RAM as workload-dependent.
- Kept a backup before migrating, updating or changing the mod set.
Final recommendation
For a small group with a capable always-on computer, self-hosting the official 1.2.2 server pack is the most controllable route: you own the files, the world and the backups. If router configuration or uptime is the concern, use a managed provider only after confirming Forge 1.20.1 and exact 1.2.2 server-pack support. In either case, matching versions and accepting the EULA are non-negotiable, and Realms should be ruled out because it cannot host the pack’s required world-side mods.
