Method 1: buy a Writ of Absolution at a Confessional
1. Open the map and locate a church
Look for a church or Confessional icon on the map. Shacknews’ March 19, 2026 guide identifies a church east of Hernand, at Hernand Farmhouse, as a likely early-game destination. A community discussion places the building toward the southeast side of the town map; use that as a practical pointer, not as an authoritative map coordinate. If your map layout differs, search for the Confessional symbol rather than forcing a route to a landmark that may be labelled differently in your version.
Plan the trip while you are still wanted. Guards in the affected area may interrupt your travel, so fast-travel or approach from a direction that does not take you through the patrol that is searching for you. The church is the destination; a bank, ordinary merchant, or constabulary notice board is not a substitute unless your current game explicitly presents an absolution interaction there.
2. Speak to the Confessional NPC
Interact with the person responsible for the Confessional and choose the option labelled Writ of Absolution or equivalent absolution wording. The interaction is a purchase or pledge, not a normal donation with a fixed fee.

3. Check the displayed pledge before confirming
The amount is variable. Shacknews reports that the pledge depends on the severity of the crime and who the crime was against. Because no universal price is established, stop at the confirmation screen and record the amount shown for this specific incident. If the sum is higher than your available funds, cancel rather than assuming a partial payment will clear the record.
Do not treat a number quoted by another player as a standard rate. A different crime, victim, region, patch, or save state can produce a different demand. The confirmation screen in your game is the authoritative price for the transaction you are about to make.
4. Confirm the result
After accepting the writ, leave the interaction and inspect your HUD and map status. The wanted indicator should no longer identify you as an active offender. Return to the area only after that check. A patch-aware guide updated September 12, 2026 recommends verifying the result instead of assuming that closing the dialogue completed the cure.
Method 2: allow arrest and serve jail time
When this route makes sense
If you cannot afford the displayed pledge, or you prefer not to spend currency on absolution, independent guide coverage describes arrest as an alternative. This is a resolution method for an already active bounty; it is not the same as escaping detection before a witness identifies you.
How to use it
- Return to, or remain near, the guards pursuing you.
- Do not flee the detection long enough to break the arrest sequence.
- Allow the guards to take you into custody.
- Complete the jail sequence and wait for control to return to your character.
- Check the wanted indicator before travelling back to the location connected with the crime.
The reported trade-off is time and Contribution. Jail advances in-game time and adds a Contribution penalty according to the reviewed guide. The material available does not establish a single fixed number for either cost. It also does not prove that jail is always currency-free: deductions, debt, or other consequences may depend on the current game behavior. Treat “free” as unverified and inspect your status after release.
Because jail changes the clock, consider whether an approaching quest deadline, scheduled event, escort, or other time-sensitive objective makes this a poor moment to surrender. If timing matters, compare the displayed writ pledge with the value of the time you would lose.

Writ or jail: which option should you choose?

The choice is therefore not simply “pay versus free.” It is a decision between a visible, variable currency cost and a jail outcome whose known costs are lost time and a reported Contribution reduction, with other financial effects not fully established. Do not confuse a fine with a bounty
Guide coverage separates an ordinary fine from a wanted bounty. A fine associated with illegal currency can restrict access to a bank without making your character wanted. Paying a bank fine is therefore not established as a way to clear an active crime bounty.

- If the HUD or map marks you as wanted and guards are pursuing you, use a Confessional writ or the arrest-and-jail route.
- If a bank refuses service because of a fine but no wanted indicator appears, follow the bank-related payment instruction instead.
- If both appear, resolve each record through its own interaction. Clearing one does not prove that the other has been removed.
The precise trigger and payment behavior for the illegal-currency fine come from independent guide descriptions rather than an official mechanic page, so the labels and prompts in your current version take priority.
Escaping detection is prevention, not a cure
One guide says you may avoid a bounty by escaping the detection area before a witness marks you as the offender. That is useful only before the wanted record is created. Once the bounty is active, running out of sight is not a demonstrated way to erase it.
Use the distinction this way:
- Not yet identified: break line of sight and leave the search area if you want to prevent escalation.
- Already wanted: escaping patrols may buy temporary safety, but the record remains. Travel to a Confessional or deliberately complete the arrest route.

Troubleshooting a missing Confessional or failed clearance
The church icon is not visible
- Zoom the map out and inspect the settlement and farm labels around Hernand.
- Search for a church or Confessional symbol rather than a generic service icon.
- Check whether a quest, map filter, or regional view is hiding settlement services.
- Use the Hernand Farmhouse location only as a reported early-game lead; regional availability can differ.
The NPC offers no Writ option
- Confirm that the record is an active wanted bounty, not only a bank fine.
- Make sure you are speaking to the Confessional NPC, not another church resident.
- Read every dialogue page and look for an absolution or writ choice below the first response.
- If the option is absent after a patch or reload, leave the area, save, and revisit. Do not assume a generic prayer interaction has cleared the crime.
The wanted marker remains after payment or release
- Close the dialogue or jail results screen completely.
- Wait for the HUD and map to refresh, then inspect the wanted indicator again.
- Move a short distance away from the church or jail and check the status a second time.
- If the marker remains, follow the displayed constabulary or absolution route in your version rather than paying another unrelated fine.
- Reload a recent save if the state still looks inconsistent, and verify the result before re-entering the original patrol area.
A September 12, 2026 patch-aware guide specifically recommends confirming recovery because menu labels and edge-case behavior can change between updates. This is a verification step, not evidence that every patch has the same bug.
You cannot afford the pledge
Cancel at the confirmation screen, note the amount, and compare it with the consequences of jail. If losing Contribution or in-game time would damage a current objective, postpone the surrender while you decide how to raise the currency. Do not pay a bank fine expecting it to substitute for the writ; the two records are described separately.

- Identify the record. Confirm that the HUD shows an active wanted state rather than only a fine or a bounty-hunting contract.
- Check whether identification is complete. If no witness has marked you and the bounty has not been issued, escape the detection area to prevent escalation.
- Choose a destination. For an active record, set a route to a church Confessional. The reported Hernand option is east of town at Hernand Farmhouse.
- Read the pledge. Open the Writ of Absolution interaction and inspect the variable amount before confirming.
- Compare trade-offs. Choose the writ if preserving time and Contribution matters more than the displayed currency. Choose arrest if the pledge is unaffordable and the jail consequences are acceptable.
- Complete one route. Do not mix an unrelated bank payment with the crime-clearing process.
- Verify. Check the wanted indicator after the interaction and again before returning to the affected patrol area.
Patch, region, and evidence limits

Those dates matter because Crimson Desert can change menu strings, regional services, and crime-state behavior through patches. No single universal pledge, complete all-region Confessional list, or guaranteed result for every save state is established here. Use the current labels and amounts shown in your game, and treat community location directions as navigation help rather than official mapping.
Bottom line for a wanted player
For an active bounty, the reliable first choice is a church Confessional: find the Writ of Absolution option, read the crime-specific pledge, confirm it, and verify that the wanted marker disappears. If paying is not practical, let the guards arrest you and accept the reported time and Contribution penalties of jail. Escaping works only before identification, and a bank fine is not established as a bounty-clearing payment.
