A learned dye may still require access to the right dyehouse, and not every piece of equipment is dyeable.
How to dye armor in Crimson Desert
- Learn the dye. Find, buy or craft a dye bottle, then use it from your inventory to unlock its color. Availability depends on the specific dye.
- Visit a dyehouse. Speak to the dyer and choose the Dye service. Theoric’s dyehouse near Hernand is an early example described by IGN, but your access to dyers depends on progression and region.
- Choose an eligible item and its parts. Select the armor or other equipment, then choose which customizable parts to alter. If the item does not appear as selectable in the Dye interface, it cannot be dyed there.
- Select and confirm colors. Choose an unlocked color for each part you want to change. Review the interface and confirm the selections; seeing a preview alone may not commit them.
- Choose a material if offered. Some dyers provide material options that change an item’s texture or sheen. Availability varies with progression and the dyer.
- Apply the dye. Use the Dye action and pay the displayed silver fee to apply your confirmed choices.
Why a color may not be available
You have not learned the dye
Using a dye bottle in your inventory unlocks its associated color. Walkthroughs describe dyes as obtainable through discovery, vendors or crafting, but the exact source varies by dye. Official patch notes do not provide a comprehensive recipe or acquisition catalog.
You need a different dyehouse
Learning a bottle does not necessarily make its color available at every dyer. IGN and VULKK describe regional dyehouses as offering particular hues and material options. VULKK also reports that Oliver at Greymane Camp can apply colors and materials tied to dyehouses the player has visited, after the relevant camp progression and unlock. These location and unlock details come from walkthrough guides; Pearl Abyss’s patch notes do not confirm a complete dyehouse map.
The material or equipment part is still locked or ineligible
Material choices can depend on which dyer and progression unlocks you have reached. Equipment eligibility is also item-specific: check whether the piece and the part you want to change are accepted by the current Dye interface.

Which equipment can be dyed?
Do not assume every armor piece, disguise outfit, weapon or mount item supports dyeing. Pearl Abyss’s Version 1.13.00 patch notes say that certain disguise outfits became dyeable and dyeing expanded to most main and secondary weapons. That update also changed the Dye UI so non-dyeable items could not be selected. Earlier, Version 1.06.00 patch notes documented a horse-tack dye fix and improvements to the customization and Dye menus. These updates show that eligibility has changed over time; the practical check is whether your specific item appears as selectable in the current interface.

Pearl Abyss’s latest official patch found for this guide is Version 2.03.02, dated September 23, 2026. Its notice says the patch was rolling out across Steam PC, Steam Mac, PlayStation, Xbox and Epic Games Store, while Mac App Store availability was still in progress. The listed hotfixes address quest progression, map icons and an Abyss issue, not dye mechanics. The preceding Version 2.03.00 notes mention an armor visual-noise fix, not a change to how dyeing works.
