To tame the Hyacinth Macaw in Crimson Desert, carry a Sotdae of Bond and roughly ten Desert Melons to Giant’s Yard Outpost in far eastern Pywel. Put the feeder on the eastern ledge above the ravine, load the melons, and wait for the Macaw to eat. Desert Melons reportedly add 15 Trust each, so seven can reach 100 Trust; bringing about ten gives you a buffer when other birds take food. Once Trust reaches 100, approach the bird and select Take in.
The arrival is not scheduled. The Macaw may take time to appear, other birds may consume the melons, and the bird can leave before the Trust process is complete. Plan for a patient wait or a return trip rather than a guaranteed timer.

What the Hyacinth Macaw is and when it became available
The Hyacinth Macaw is one of the legendary animals added as a keepable pet in Version 1.05.00 of Crimson Desert. Pearl Abyss listed the addition in its May 2, 2026 patch notes: “Added new legendary animals that can be kept as pets: Iron Eagle and Hyacinth Macaw.” The update rollout listed PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic Games Store, and Mac App Store versions.
The official notes establish that the Macaw is a pet, but they do not document its capture route. The location and feeding sequence below follow the gameplay instructions published by PC Gamer on May 7, 2026, and a Shacknews guide. Treat the melon value and placement advice as reported in-game guidance, not as a real-world statistic or a guarantee that every encounter will behave identically.

Requirements before you travel
| Requirement | What to prepare | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Bonding tool | One Sotdae of Bond | The cited taming guides use this item to create the feeder for the Macaw. |
| Food | About ten Desert Melons | Each melon is reported to add 15 Trust. Seven reach 100 Trust mathematically, while extra melons cover food eaten by competing birds or a second attempt. |
| Destination | Giant’s Yard Outpost, far eastern Pywel | The encounter is reported around Red River and south of Red Tree Forest. |
| Time | A flexible session with no fixed waiting promise | The Macaw’s flight path and arrival are unpredictable, and it may leave before you finish. |
Why bring more than seven melons?
The reported Trust gain makes seven Desert Melons sufficient on paper: seven feeds at 15 Trust each total 105 Trust, enough to pass the 100-Trust threshold. In practice, the guides recommend around ten. Other birds can land on the feeder and eat, reducing the food available to the Macaw. A reserve also saves a long trip if the first visit ends before the bird reaches the required Trust.
Do you have to liberate Giant’s Yard Outpost?
No. PC Gamer specifically reports that liberation is not strictly necessary to tame the bird. Clearing the outpost can make working nearby more convenient, but it is a convenience choice rather than an absolute capture requirement. If you have already liberated it, use the safer access and nearby services it provides; if not, you can still attempt the Macaw encounter.
Reach the Macaw’s area
Use the regional landmarks
Travel to Giant’s Yard Outpost in far eastern Pywel. The guides place the site around the Red River and south of Red Tree Forest. These landmarks are more useful than searching for a separate pet marker because the Macaw’s encounter is tied to the area around the outpost rather than a permanently visible animal icon.

From the outpost, search the eastern side of the camp for a ledge over a ravine. PC Gamer identifies that ledge as the recommended feeder position. Shacknews describes the same general terrain as the edge of an eastern gulley and notes that a nearby alternative spot may also work. If the placement prompt does not appear at one exact point, move along the gulley edge and try the adjacent ledge instead of abandoning the area.
Set up the Sotdae of Bond
- Stand on the eastern ledge above the ravine near Giant’s Yard Outpost.
- Open the placement interaction for the Sotdae of Bond.
- Position the feeder so it sits on the ledge rather than down in the ravine. The guides’ descriptions focus on the eastern, elevated edge.
- Load the feeder with your Desert Melons.
The feeder is the trigger for this taming method. You are not expected to chase the Macaw through the landscape or capture it with a combat action. Once the Sotdae is placed and stocked, remain close enough to observe the approach and respond if another bird interferes.
Manage the feeding and Trust phase
Wait for an unscheduled arrival
There is no reliable published countdown, weather requirement, or fixed flight schedule for the Macaw. Its arrival and flight path are described as unpredictable. Watch the feeder and the surrounding airspace rather than assuming the bird will land immediately after placement.
Deal with other birds
Competing birds can land and consume some of the melons. PC Gamer advises scaring them off when they interfere. The important distinction is that an unwanted bird taking food does not mean the feeder is broken; it means your reserve may be smaller than planned. Keep the area under observation and drive off intruders when they block the Macaw’s feeding opportunity.

Expect the Macaw to leave
Shacknews reports that the Macaw can feed and depart before the Trust process is finished. If it flies away below 100 Trust, do not treat that departure as a permanent failure. You may need to wait for another appearance or return with the remaining food. This is why carrying a buffer of melons is more practical than traveling with the exact mathematical minimum.
Track the threshold
Continue the interaction until the Macaw’s Trust reaches 100. The 15-Trust-per-melon figure comes from PC Gamer’s May 7, 2026 guide. Because food can be diverted to other birds and the Macaw may leave, count the Trust shown by the game rather than assuming every melon in the feeder was eaten by the target bird.

Claim the pet
- Stay near the feeder while the Macaw completes its feeding interactions.
- Check the displayed Trust value after the bird has eaten.
- When Trust reaches 100, approach the Hyacinth Macaw.
- Select Take in when the prompt appears.
The final interaction is the point at which the Macaw joins your pets. Reaching the Trust threshold alone is not the last step; you must approach the bird and use the explicit Take in command.

The Sotdae cannot be placed
- Move farther along the eastern ledge above the ravine. The recommended point is a terrain description, not a single universally marked coordinate.
- Try the nearby eastern-gulley position described by Shacknews if the first ledge does not offer an interaction.
- Confirm that you are using a Sotdae of Bond, the item named by both cited guides for this taming method.
The Macaw does not appear
- Remain in the Giant’s Yard Outpost area for a while; the guides do not establish a fixed arrival time.
- Keep the feeder stocked so a delayed arrival does not leave you with no food.
- If you have waited through an unsuccessful attempt, leave and return later with your remaining or newly gathered Desert Melons.
Other birds ate the food
- Scare off birds that land on the feeder when they prevent the Macaw from feeding.
- Use the extra melons you brought as a replacement supply.
- Judge progress by the Macaw’s Trust value, not by the number of melons initially loaded.
The Macaw flew away before 100 Trust
This behavior is specifically reported by Shacknews. Wait for another opportunity or revisit the area; the departure means the current feeding sequence ended early, not that the pet is permanently unavailable. A second visit may consume more of your reserve, so returning with additional Desert Melons is sensible.

The outpost is not liberated
You can still attempt the tame. Liberation may make nearby movement easier, but PC Gamer says it is not a strict prerequisite. Do not postpone the encounter solely because the outpost remains uncleared.
Choosing how to prepare
Minimize travel
If you already have Desert Melons, take them with you and head directly to the outpost. This is the simplest approach because the guides’ main recommendation is to arrive with enough food, not to depend on one specific shop route.
Gather food near your normal route
If you do not have enough melons, gather them before committing to the eastern trip. The cited guides describe different grocer locations and acquisition details, so no single universal shop route is established. Prioritize reaching the recommended stock of about ten rather than following a route that may not match your edition, progression, or current inventory.
Clear the outpost first
Liberating Giant’s Yard Outpost can make setup and movement more convenient. Choose this when you want the area secured for other activities as well. Skip it when your only goal is the Macaw and you would rather attempt the optional, less-preparatory route.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteEvidence, version, and availability notes
The Macaw’s status as a pet is confirmed by Pearl Abyss’s Version 1.05.00 notes dated May 2, 2026. The specific feeder location, melon quantity, Trust increment, interference behavior, and Take in prompt come from the PC Gamer and Shacknews gameplay guides cited above. Those guides are secondary sources, so encounter timing and exact terrain interaction should be read as practical instructions rather than a promise of identical behavior in every session.
The patch notes list the feature for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic Games Store, and Mac App Store releases. Platform availability does not remove the in-game requirements: the Sotdae of Bond, Desert Melons, the Giant’s Yard Outpost area, and the Trust interaction are still needed to obtain the pet.
