The most reliable way to reach it is to summon Blackstar near the Aeronautical Research Base, burn away the escort robots and rear turrets, and land on the airship. An Abyss drop is possible, but a missed landing forces you to repeat the approach.
REN-X is a traversal encounter rather than a conventional ground fight built around reducing a normal health bar. Preparation, a controlled landing and careful movement in the wind matter more than a long damage rotation.

Where to Find Ironwing REN-X
Start the Ironwing REN-X side quest and travel to the flying mechanical boss above the Aeronautical Research Base near the southeastern end of Delesyia. One map description places the launch area in the far southern Grey Forest of Delesiyian Territory, so the wording on your map may not match the wording in a guide. These descriptions refer to the same general approach area rather than two separate bosses.

The Sanctum of Faith is the nearest named Abyss Nexus identified in the location guide. From that area, look upward and watch for the large mechanical craft circling above the research base. REN-X is airborne, so it will not appear as a normal ground target waiting at a quest marker.

Why the map labels can look different
Delesyia, Delesiyian Territory, the Aeronautical Research Base and the Grey Forest are used differently in published route descriptions. If a search for one label seems to lead nowhere, check the adjacent southern and southeastern terrain around the base and use the Sanctum of Faith as your navigation reference. The important landmark is the airship itself: you are looking for the machine flying above the base, not an entrance inside the facility.
Prepare Before You Approach
Bring recovery supplies
Carry healing items and food before starting the boarding attempt. Damage can come from escort robots, rear turrets, wind-driven falls and mistakes on the narrow upper surfaces. Healing does not solve a missed landing, but it gives you room to survive the on-board sequence while you learn the route.
Improve your combat margin
Refine your gear to improve attack and defense if that option is available in your current progression. The encounter is objective-based, yet stronger equipment makes it easier to remove the robots and turrets before they overwhelm you and gives you more tolerance for incidental hits.
Check your progression
One independent guide places Blackstar’s availability around Chapter 11. Treat that as a progression estimate, not a universal unlock rule: chapter timing can differ by save, quest order or version. If Blackstar is not available, the Abyss route remains an alternative, but it demands more precise positioning.
Know what the fight actually tests
REN-X does not ask you to discover a hidden elemental weakness or sustain a conventional damage phase. The practical test is reaching the moving platform, staying attached to it and completing the shield sequence. That changes how you should spend preparation time: mobility, recovery and a safe approach are more useful than building an elaborate boss-combo plan.
Choose an Access Route
| Route | How it works | Reliability and failure cost |
|---|---|---|
| Blackstar | Summon the dragon near REN-X, fly up to the airship, use fire on the escort robots and rear turrets, then land on the craft. | Reported as the most straightforward and safer approach. Clearing defenses before landing reduces fire during the boarding sequence. |
| Abyss drop | Reach the launch point and drop from the Abyss toward the moving airship. | Possible, but the landing requires precise timing. A miss means starting the approach again. |
Use Blackstar whenever it is available and you want the least punishing setup. Choose the Abyss drop only if you cannot use the dragon or specifically want to attempt the alternate route. The two methods lead to the same on-board objective: break the six wing shields, enter the opened port and destroy the central shield.
Which route should you choose?
For a first clear, Blackstar is the sensible default because it gives you time to remove threats before your feet touch the airship. The Abyss drop saves you from needing the dragon, but it does not remove the encounter’s hardest part: landing on a moving, elevated target. A failed drop costs another approach, while a controlled dragon landing lets you retry the boarding section with fewer active weapons.
Pearl Abyss describes Crimson Desert by saying, “On the unforgiving battlefields of Crimson Desert, there is no single path to victory.” That principle applies here, but the reported reliability difference is clear: the dragon is the forgiving option, and the Abyss is the precision option.
How to Reach Ironwing REN-X With Blackstar
- Move to the southern approach. Travel to the Aeronautical Research Base area in southeastern Delesyia, using the Sanctum of Faith as the nearby Abyss Nexus reference.
- Summon Blackstar. Take off and climb toward the flying REN-X rather than trying to jump from the ground onto its hull.
- Attack the small protector robots. Use the dragon’s fire abilities against the small machines escorting the boss. Removing them reduces the number of threats active while you are trying to land.
- Burn the rear turrets. The exposed back of REN-X carries turrets. Fire on them before you commit to a landing; leaving them active lets them shoot while you cross the wings.
- Line up a stable landing. Approach a broad wing surface and touch down only when your position is controlled. Avoid arriving at an angle that immediately puts you over the edge or in the path of an active turret.
- Dismount and begin the wing sequence. Once you are on the airship, the dragon has done its job. Your objective is now to cross the elevated surfaces and remove the six shields or orbs.
Fire is most valuable before landing. The goal is not to finish REN-X from the air; it is to make the boarding section manageable by removing the defenses that can interrupt your movement.
How to Reach REN-X by Dropping From the Abyss
- Set up above the boss’s flight path. Use the southern launch area and wait for a usable alignment with the moving airship.
- Watch the approach rather than rushing the drop. The target is a moving, elevated surface. A small error in height or horizontal position can leave you short of the wings.
- Commit only when the wing is under you. Aim for a broad section of the airship, not a narrow edge or a turret position.
- Recover from a miss by repeating the approach. The alternate route has a higher failure cost because a missed landing starts the approach again. It is not a shortcut around the precision requirement.
The Abyss method can reach REN-X without Blackstar, but the route description specifically warns about the retry cost. If you have access to the dragon, its controlled flight is the safer choice.
How to Defeat Ironwing REN-X After You Land
There is no conventional ground-boss routine to memorize. The fight is a movement and target sequence on the airship. Keep your camera on the next surface, avoid the edges and use Stab on each required objective.
1. Cross the wings carefully
Move from your landing area across the wings toward the visible shield orbs. Elevated surfaces are narrow enough that a bad step can be as dangerous as enemy fire. Do not sprint blindly after a turret has been cleared; use short movements and pause when you need to re-center yourself.
2. Manage the wind
Wind can push you off the airship. When a gust starts moving your character, cling to a surface instead of fighting the force while standing exposed. Holding onto the structure buys time for the gust to pass and prevents a fall that would undo the approach.
3. Destroy all six wing shields or orbs
Equip or select Stab and strike every shield/orb mounted along the wings. The required count is six. Treat the count as an objective checklist: if the next stage does not open, search the wings for the remaining orb rather than assuming the core is already available.
- Locate the first shield from your landing point.
- Use Stab until that shield is broken.
- Move to the next wing-mounted shield, keeping away from exposed edges.
- Repeat until all six shields/orbs have been destroyed.
- Watch for the port opening at the base of the airship.
These strikes are the encounter’s main damage requirement. The guides describe the shields as objectives to break, not as a phase that rewards a particular elemental build or a long list of attack combos.

After the sixth wing shield breaks, the port at the base opens. Move inside rather than continuing to circle the exterior. The opening is the transition to REN-X’s final objective.
5. Stab the central shield or core
Inside the port, find the central shield/core and use Stab on it. Destroying this central target completes the REN-X encounter and finishes the side quest. If the quest does not complete, verify that all six exterior shields were destroyed and that you struck the central target inside the opened port rather than an outer panel.
Hazards, Failure Points and Fixes
Rear turrets still firing
Symptom: You reach the airship but take repeated shots while crossing the wings.
Fix: Return to Blackstar for the approach and use its fire abilities on the exposed rear turrets before landing. The dragon route is designed to let you reduce this pressure in advance.
Escort robots crowd the landing
Symptom: Small protector machines interrupt the final approach or attack as soon as you touch down.

- RELENTLESS ACTION, BRUTAL COMBAT — Fight for survival in fast‑paced, visceral battles using swords, spears, bows, elemental abilities, and powerful skills, where a single moment can determine victory or defeat.
- DAWNING FATE — Witness the fragile balance between rival factions shatter as Kliff and the Greymanes are drawn into a brutal conflict that reshapes the fate of the continent.

- THE BEGINNING OF A NEW JOURNEY — Set out to rebuild the Greymanes, reclaim a lost homeland, and pursue vengeance along a path that reveals deeper truths about power, war, and destiny.
Fix: Circle the machine with Blackstar and burn the escort robots before attempting the landing. Removing them is more reliable than trying to fight several threats while balancing on the wings.
Wind pushes you toward an edge
Symptom: Your character slides or is blown away on an elevated section.
Fix: Cling to a nearby surface when the gust begins. Resume crossing only after the push has passed, and favor the widest available section of the wing.

You miss the Abyss landing
Symptom: You fall without touching the airship.
Fix: Repeat the approach from the launch point. The alternate route has a meaningful retry cost, which is why the dragon is generally recommended when available.
You cannot find the final target
Symptom: Six shields appear to be gone, but REN-X remains active.
Fix: Check the wing surfaces again and count the destroyed orbs. The port opens only after the six-shield sequence; once it is open, enter the base and use Stab on the central shield/core.
You fall after making progress
Symptom: A gust or a misstep sends you off after several shields are already broken.

Re-center on the widest surface, cling when wind begins and do not hurry toward the next orb simply because the previous one is destroyed. The objective sequence rewards controlled traversal, not speed.

Published guides agree that the clear provides a surveillance-record item and a pair of gloves associated with opening locked doors without a key. They do not use the same name for the gloves, so check the exact reward label shown by your localization and game version.
| Reported reward | What guides say about it | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| REN-X Surveillance Record | Listed as a completion reward. | The guide identifies the item by this name. |
| Tech Gloves | Described as allowing doors to be unlocked without a key. | This is the name used in one guide. |
| Mechanic Gloves | Described as the glove reward for the same encounter. | A later guide uses this different label; verify the in-game wording. |
Because the glove names differ between guides, do not assume that the English labels are definitively identical across localizations or patches. The practical effect reported for the glove reward is access to doors that otherwise require a key.
Can You Rematch Ironwing REN-X?
Version 1.05.00 patch notes from Pearl Abyss, revised May 2, 2026, add a general boss-rematch system. After a defeated boss leaves a Memory Fragment, lighting its lantern can offer two modes: Reminisce, which recreates the boss as originally encountered, and Resonate, which scales the boss’s statistics to your progression when you are stronger. The notes list Kliff, Oongka and Damiane as selectable rematch bosses, allow the use of those modes, restore rematch consumables afterward and state that rematches provide no separate loot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I find Ironwing REN-X?
Look above the Aeronautical Research Base near southeastern Delesyia. Some route descriptions call the southern launch area the far southern Grey Forest of Delesiyian Territory. The Sanctum of Faith is the nearest named Abyss Nexus in the location guide.
How do I reach and beat the Ironwing airship boss without Blackstar?
Use the alternate Abyss-drop route. Align yourself with the moving airship, wait until a broad wing section is below you, and commit to the drop. A miss means repeating the approach, so Blackstar is the safer option whenever it is available.
How many shields must I break on REN-X?
Break all six wing-mounted shields or orbs with Stab. Once the sixth is destroyed, the port at the base opens; enter it and stab the central shield or core.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What should I destroy before landing on REN-X?
When approaching with Blackstar, use the dragon’s fire on the small protector robots and the turrets on REN-X’s exposed back. Clearing both reduces incoming fire while you cross the wings.
What is the Ironwing REN-X reward?
Guides report a REN-X Surveillance Record and gloves that let you open doors without a key. One guide calls them Tech Gloves and another calls them Mechanic Gloves, so verify the name shown in your game.
Can Ironwing REN-X be rematched?
Pearl Abyss version 1.05.00 adds Reminisce and Resonate rematch modes for certain bosses, but its listed examples are Kliff, Oongka and Damiane. The notes do not confirm REN-X’s eligibility, so check the Memory Fragment and lantern options in your version.
The Bottom Line
For the cleanest Ironwing REN-X clear, approach from the Aeronautical Research Base with Blackstar, burn the escort robots and rear turrets before landing, then cross the wings carefully while clinging through wind gusts. Use Stab on all six shields, enter the port that opens at the base and destroy the central core. The Abyss drop works, but its missed-landing retry makes it the riskier route.
