To finish Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop in Chapter 4, activate the ancient generator, repair the northern kiln with five blue fuel balls, seat the loose parts in the dismantled kiln, and reconnect the pipe on the disconnected kiln. The generator is a ring-alignment mechanism: a yellow selector chooses a ring, and the wooden crank rotates the selected ring until its glowing symbol lines up with the column. A four-action shortcut works when the mechanism is untouched, but a puzzle that has already been moved must be solved from the symbols and the selector position you can currently see.
Where Kiln Repair fits in Crimson Desert
Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop is a Chapter 4 main mission in the Hernand region. It follows the workshop introduction involving Grimnir; that earlier conversation is not the complete repair sequence. Once the repair quest is active, the objective list contains four separate jobs:

Finish all four objectives to clear the workshop repair sequence. The order below follows the way the objectives are generally presented, but the three kiln jobs can be approached in a different order after the generator is active.

The tower mechanism is controlled by two interacting parts. The yellow selector determines which ring is active, while the wooden lever or crank rotates that highlighted ring. Each ring carries a glowing symbol. Your goal is to rotate the selected ring until its symbol is aligned with the matching symbol column on the mechanism.

Four-action shortcut for an untouched generator
PowerPyx reports a short solution for a generator that has not been manipulated yet. It assumes the selector and rings are still in their starting positions:
- Push the yellow selector all the way to the right. This selects the second ring.
- Push the wooden lever to the right to rotate that ring into alignment.
- Move the yellow selector to the middle position. This selects the third ring.
- Push the wooden lever to the left to rotate the selected ring into alignment.
In that starting state, the top and bottom symbols are already aligned, so those two rings do not need additional turns. If the mechanism accepts the inputs, the generator activates immediately after the final adjustment.
Why the shortcut may not match your screen
The four inputs are a starting-state shortcut, not a universal sequence. If you interacted with the tower earlier, loaded a save after experimenting, or find the selector in another position, the same movements can leave a ring misaligned. Game8’s instructions describe a different opening position and begin by using the selector angled left to align a top symbol before working through the middle and bottom rings. The difference comes from puzzle state and from which ring each guide treats as active at that moment.
Do not force a memorized order when the visible mechanism disagrees. The selector’s glowing highlight tells you which ring will move. The glowing symbol on that ring tells you what must be brought into line with the fixed column. Select one ring, rotate it only until its symbol matches, then check the next highlighted ring.

State-based method when the puzzle has been moved
- Stop turning the crank and look for the yellow selector’s current highlight. That identifies the ring controlled by the next lever movement.
- Note the glowing symbol on the active ring and the corresponding symbol position in the stationary column.
- Turn the wooden lever in the direction that brings the active symbol toward the matching position. Use short, deliberate inputs rather than repeatedly holding the control.
- When the symbol lines up, move the selector to the next ring that still shows a mismatch.
- Repeat until every visible symbol is aligned. Rings that already match should be left alone.
This approach works whether your selector starts left, middle, or right. It also avoids accidentally disturbing a ring that was already correct. If a movement appears to affect the wrong ring, release the crank, reposition the selector, and verify the highlight before trying again.
The three kiln repairs
After the generator is active, the workshop presents three practical repairs. They use different interactions, so knowing which kiln you are looking at prevents wasted time.

How to repair the northern kiln: five fuel balls
The northern kiln needs five glowing blue balls. Open the map and use the marked locations to track them. At each location, target the ball with Axiom Force, carry or move it to the northern kiln, and place it in one of the circular openings around the kiln. Repeat until all five openings contain fuel. Then operate the kiln’s lever to register the repair.

- Travel to a marked location and locate the glowing blue ball.
- Use Axiom Force to move the ball. Keep the target centered if it drifts while you carry it.
- Bring it to the northern kiln and guide it into an empty circular opening.
- Repeat for the other four balls.
- Once all five are inserted, activate the kiln’s lever.
A ball that is merely uncollected is different from a ball that fails to appear at its expected marker. Check the immediate area first: a ball may be beside the path, near a cave entrance, or partly obscured by workshop geometry. The map marker identifies the intended location, not necessarily the exact point at which the object is easiest to see.

If a fuel ball is missing
PC Gamer reported one run in which the ball near the Duskwood Cave entrance did not appear until the author reloaded a save. That is an anecdotal report from one guide, not confirmation of a universal bug or a guaranteed fix. If the marker is present but the object is not visible, save and reload before abandoning the objective. After loading, return to the marked area and check the ground, ledges, and the cave approach again.
If the ball is visible but Axiom Force will not grab it, move closer, clear nearby objects from your targeting line, and try from another angle. The five-ball objective should not be considered complete until every opening is visibly filled and the kiln lever can be operated.

The dismantled kiln is repaired by using Axiom Force to return its loose components to their sockets or matching positions. Pick up each piece, align it with the corresponding part of the kiln, and release it when the placement is accepted. Do not assume a piece is fully seated merely because it is touching the assembly.
PC Gamer notes that the parts may not slot perfectly. When a component appears to be in place but the objective does not advance, climb onto the kiln, jump, and use a downward Force Palm while you are above the loose section. The midair strike supplies the final push that ordinary placement can fail to provide.

- Target a loose kiln piece with Axiom Force.
- Move it toward the matching gap or mounting point.
- Release it and inspect the joint from several angles.
- If it remains loose, climb onto the kiln, jump, and use a downward Force Palm on the piece.
- Repeat for every dismantled component until the repair objective updates.
Use the downward attack only after the part is positioned. Striking a piece from the wrong side can knock it away and force you to realign it.
How to fix the disconnected kiln
The disconnected kiln has a pipe separated from the side connection. Approach the side of the kiln, reconnect the pipe to its socket, and then operate the nearby handle. The handle interaction is the completion step; turning it before the pipe is attached will not finish the objective.
- Locate the pipe on the side of the disconnected kiln.
- Interact with it and guide the end back into the kiln’s side connection.
- Confirm that the pipe is visibly attached rather than floating against the socket.
- Use the kiln’s handle.
If the handle prompt does not appear, inspect the pipe connection again. A slight gap or an incorrect angle can leave the assembly looking close while the game still treats it as disconnected.

- The generator turns the wrong ring: stop the crank, check which ring the yellow selector highlights, and move the selector before trying again.
- The four-action generator shortcut fails: it only assumes an untouched starting state. Solve from the current highlighted ring and visible symbol alignment instead.
- A generator symbol keeps missing its column: rotate only the active ring, then recheck the selector before changing another ring.
- A fuel ball is not at its marker: search the surrounding ground and nearby approach, then reload a save and revisit the location. The Duskwood Cave report is a single guide’s observation, not a confirmed general bug.
- A kiln part will not stay in place: position it with Axiom Force, climb on top, jump, and use a downward Force Palm.
- The disconnected kiln will not complete: reconnect the side pipe fully before operating the handle.
- The quest does not advance: check the objective list and confirm all five fuel openings are filled, every dismantled component is seated, and the disconnected kiln’s handle has been used.
Quick completion route
For a fresh quest, inspect the generator before making any experimental turns. If its selector is in the initial position, use the right-selector/right-crank, then middle-selector/left-crank shortcut. If not, use the highlighted-ring method. Once the generator activates, collect the five map-marked blue balls for the northern kiln and pull its lever. Then seat the dismantled kiln’s pieces, using the midair Force Palm technique if they resist, and finish by reconnecting the side pipe and operating the disconnected kiln’s handle.
The key distinction is between a puzzle state and a fixed script. The generator’s correct input depends on what has already moved; the kiln repairs depend on physical placement and interaction prompts. Reading the selector highlight, symbol alignment, map markers, and pipe or component position will solve the workshop reliably without relying on a sequence that may belong to a different starting state.
