The first practical lesson comes from Rhett’s Request: Rhett gives you a pickaxe, marks an ore site east of Hernand, and expects you to equip the tool, strike the metallic-looking deposit, and collect what falls from it. From there, treat mining as one branch of gathering rather than the whole resource system. Use the tool or interaction that matches the material, record locations that matter to your current upgrade, and use community maps as finding aids—not as proof that every node, yield, or respawn timer is known.
What material extraction covers
Material extraction is the process of obtaining resources used by the game’s wider progression and crafting systems. In practical terms, that includes striking mineral deposits with a pickaxe and collecting plants or other objects through their own gathering interactions. A resource index for Crimson Desert lists mineable deposits such as bismuth, bloodstone, copper, diamond, garnet, gold, and iron, alongside plants and other hand-foraged materials. That list is useful for understanding the categories you may encounter, but it should be read as representative rather than a guaranteed, version-complete catalogue.

The important distinction is interaction. A pickaxe is appropriate for an ore deposit; a plant or another gatherable may use a different prompt or action. Before travelling, identify the material first, then confirm which tool or interaction the game requests when you reach it. This prevents a common early mistake: arriving at the right landmark with the wrong extraction method.

Your first mining task: Rhett’s Request
PC Gamer’s March 19, 2026 walkthrough presents Rhett’s Request as an early, practical introduction to ore mining. Rhett supplies the pickaxe and marks a location east of Hernand. The sequence below follows that walkthrough while leaving controls deliberately platform-neutral; button assignments can differ by platform and may change with patches.

- Accept the request from Rhett. The marked objective establishes the first ore location and gives you the tool needed to work it.
- Equip the pickaxe. Open the game’s tool or item-selection interface and make the pickaxe active before attempting to mine. If the game displays a context prompt instead, follow that prompt rather than assuming a universal button.
- Travel east of Hernand to the marked deposit. Use the quest marker as your first navigation reference. The marker is more reliable for this tutorial than an unverified community route.
- Identify the metallic-looking rock. The walkthrough describes the target as a metallic-looking deposit. Check that you are facing the deposit itself, not nearby scenery or a different interactable.
- Strike the deposit. You can aim for a more precise hit if you prefer. The guide describes aiming as an available technique, but it does not establish a universal damage, speed, or yield bonus for precise strikes.
- Collect the dropped ore. After the deposit is struck, pick up the resulting material and verify it in your inventory or objective tracker before leaving.
- Confirm the request’s next state. If the objective does not advance, check that the correct tool was equipped, the correct rock was hit, and the dropped item was actually collected. Re-open the quest log only after those basic checks.
This tutorial teaches the loop—tool, deposit, strike, pickup—but not a universal route or farming rate. Do not infer from one marked rock that every ore appears in the same terrain, that all deposits use identical interactions, or that the first location is the best place to continue mining.
Mining versus broader gathering
| Approach | Typical target in the available index | Interaction or tool | What is established | What is not established |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ore mining | Bismuth, bloodstone, copper, diamond, garnet, gold, iron | Pickaxe for the ore deposit in the early tutorial | Rhett’s Request demonstrates equipping a pickaxe, striking a metallic-looking deposit, and collecting the drop. | No authoritative yield, durability rule, or respawn timer has been verified. |
| Plant gathering | Plants listed by the third-party resource index | A gathering interaction rather than the mining loop | The index separates plants and hand-foraged items from mineable deposits. | The available material does not establish every prompt, tool, or plant location. |
| Other gatherables | Additional materials listed in the resource index | Material-specific interaction | Different materials may require different gathering interactions. | The index is not confirmed as a complete, current inventory. |
Use this distinction when planning an outing. If you need iron, look for a mineral marker or exposed deposit and bring the mining tool. If you need a plant, searching the same cliff or ravine for metallic rock is inefficient even if both resources appear in the same broad region. The game’s prompts, quest text, and item descriptions should take priority over assumptions copied from another resource type.
Known ore examples and how to treat them
Bismuth, copper, diamond, garnet, gold, and iron
The resource index names these as mineable deposits. That naming is enough to classify them as ore targets for planning, but it does not prove an exhaustive spawn list, fixed rarity order, guaranteed crafting use, or a best farming route. Mark a location only after you have personally confirmed the material and the game’s current patch still recognizes the node.

Bloodstone is described as red ore. PC Gamer’s location example places an early deposit in a ravine south of Rocca’s Hill, across the river directly east of Hernand. This is a concrete starting example, not a complete Bloodstone route. Terrain, quest state, and patch changes can affect how easily you reach or recognize the spot.
- Start from the Hernand area and orient toward the river east of town.
- Cross the river and continue toward the ravine south of Rocca’s Hill.
- Look for the red ore appearance described by the guide, while checking the interaction prompt to distinguish it from scenery.
- Equip the pickaxe, mine the deposit, and collect the drop.
- Record the location in your own notes or map markers if Bloodstone is part of an immediate upgrade plan.
The colour description helps recognition, but visual cues alone should not be treated as a guaranteed identification system for every patch. Confirm the item name after collection.
Using a gathering map without overtrusting it
The th.gl interactive Crimson Desert gathering page advertises 5,158 known gathering locations and states that it was updated on October 6, 2026. It provides a map tracker and coordinate highlighting. The number is the map provider’s listed coverage, not an official game-wide statistic and not proof that all 5,158 markers are active, unique, or currently spawnable.
A safe map workflow
- Filter for the material you actually need. Start with the ore or plant name rather than displaying every marker. A full map can obscure nearby objectives and make route decisions harder.
- Use the marker to form a hypothesis. Treat a pin as a likely search area. It may represent a reported location, an approximate coordinate, or a node that changed after the map was updated.
- Compare the marker with terrain. Rivers, ravines, hills, and settlements are more useful navigation references than coordinates alone when you are travelling in-game.
- Confirm the node in the current build. Check the interaction prompt and the collected item. If the marker is empty, note whether the problem is a missing spawn, a different phase or quest state, an inaccurate pin, or a map-update lag.
- Track only verified locations. Keep a personal marker or note for deposits you have actually collected. Separate “reported” from “confirmed” so an old pin does not become a false certainty.
- Recheck after updates. The map’s October 6, 2026 update date is a timestamp for that provider’s data, not a guarantee that later game patches leave locations unchanged.
What the map cannot tell you from the available evidence
- It does not establish that every gathering location in the game is represented.
- It does not establish a universal respawn timer or whether a node is shared, phased, quest-gated, or one-time.
- It does not establish the amount of ore obtained per strike or per deposit.
- It does not prove that a short route produces more material than a longer route.
- It does not replace the current quest marker or an in-game interaction prompt.
Planning an extraction trip
When you need materials for a specific upgrade, plan around the requirement rather than around a map’s total number of markers. The following framework keeps travel and inventory decisions grounded in what you can verify in the current game.

1. Define the immediate target
Write down the exact item or upgrade and the material name shown in its requirement. “Ore” is too broad: iron, copper, and Bloodstone are not interchangeable simply because all can be mined. If the requirement is unclear, inspect the crafting or upgrade screen before leaving town.
2. Match the interaction
Bring the pickaxe for a mineral deposit. For plants or other hand-foraged items, approach the object and read the prompt rather than trying to mine it. This small check saves a trip when your inventory contains several tools.
3. Choose a verifiable starting point
For the first ore task, use the marked location east of Hernand. For Bloodstone, the documented example is the ravine south of Rocca’s Hill across the river east of Hernand. For other resources, use a map marker as a search lead and verify the result yourself.
4. Control travel cost
Group nearby confirmed markers instead of crossing the map for a single unverified pin. Terrain matters: a ravine or river crossing can make a geographically close marker slower to reach than a slightly farther deposit on an open route. The available sources do not provide a measured route-efficiency comparison, so treat this as a planning principle, not a proven fastest path.
5. Leave room for the return trip
Keep enough inventory capacity for the material you are seeking and for incidental items collected along the way. The evidence does not establish an exact inventory limit or a mining stack size, so check your own inventory screen before committing to a long loop.
6. Verify before travelling again
After collecting a drop, confirm its item name and quantity in the inventory. If the upgrade still lacks material, distinguish between “the node yielded less than expected” and “the pickup was not collected.” That diagnosis is more useful than assuming the map or the game is wrong.

The pickaxe is equipped, but nothing happens
- Move close enough to the deposit for the interaction prompt to appear.
- Check that you are facing the metallic-looking rock rather than a nearby object.
- Try the game’s aim or precision input if the strike is not registering; the early walkthrough describes aiming as an available option.
- Verify that the object is an ore deposit and not a plant or another gatherable.
- If a quest marker is involved, confirm that the request is active and that you are at the marked location.
The marker is present, but the node is missing
Community-map coverage is not a spawn guarantee. Recheck the terrain around the pin, look for an offset caused by coordinate precision, and compare the marker with the map’s update date. If the node still cannot be found, mark it as unconfirmed and try another reported location rather than treating an empty pin as proof of a bug.

The wrong material was collected
Read the item name immediately after pickup. Similar-looking deposits can be easy to confuse, and the available evidence does not establish that colour alone identifies every ore. Update your personal notes only after the inventory confirms the material.
The quest does not advance
Repeat the complete sequence: equip the pickaxe, strike the intended deposit, collect the dropped item, and check the quest log. A successful hit without pickup may not satisfy an objective. If the objective remains unchanged after all four actions, reload the area or revisit the marker only if the game’s current troubleshooting guidance recommends it; no official extraction-specific recovery procedure was verified here.
What is and is not known about yields and respawns
No authoritative published extraction yield or respawn statistic was verified for this guide. That means a responsible route description should not promise a number of ore pieces per rock, a fixed number of strikes, a guaranteed Bloodstone return, or a timer such as “every ten minutes.” Third-party claims may become outdated when a patch changes node behaviour, and a map marker may describe a location without describing its state.
You can still build useful personal data. For each confirmed node, note the date, material, approximate landmark, whether the interaction was available, and the quantity shown in your inventory. After revisiting, record whether the node returned. These notes are observations from your own current build, not universal mechanics, but they let you choose routes based on evidence instead of assumptions.
Early-game extraction checklist
- Accept the early mining task from Rhett and take the supplied pickaxe.
- Follow the marked route east of Hernand.
- Equip the pickaxe before approaching the metallic-looking deposit.
- Aim if you want a more precise strike, while avoiding any assumption of a proven yield bonus.
- Collect the dropped ore and verify it in the inventory.
- Separate ore mining from plant and other gathering interactions.
- For Bloodstone, use the documented example south of Rocca’s Hill, across the river east of Hernand, as a starting search area.
- Use the th.gl map’s 5,158 listed locations and October 6, 2026 update date as context for coverage, not as a completeness guarantee.
- Record confirmed nodes and label unverified markers clearly.
- Do not rely on unverified yield, route-efficiency, or respawn claims when planning a farming session.
Keeping the guide current
Controls, resource availability, map coverage, and node behaviour can change with patches. The early walkthrough cited here is dated March 19, 2026, while the map reports an October 6, 2026 update. Those dates describe the sources, not a promise that every interaction remains unchanged afterward. When a prompt, tool behaviour, or location conflicts with this article, follow the current in-game objective and interaction text, then treat older route notes as historical leads.
The most reliable extraction habit is therefore simple: identify the required material, use the matching interaction, verify the collected item, and maintain your own list of confirmed locations. That method remains useful even when a community marker moves or a patch changes how a deposit behaves.
