Find the Vaporwalker boots in a chest inside Ancient’s Heart Cave, the hidden cave behind the waterfall at the Ancient Rift. You need the Stab skill to pass through the waterfall and Force Palm to break the obstruction inside. The boots grant Skipping Stones, which lets you slide across shallow water.
Vaporwalker boots: the short route
The item is not bought from a merchant or awarded by a named quest in the available guides. It is a fixed chest pickup at the Ancient Rift waterfall in northern Hernand, close to the Pailune boundary. Follow this sequence:

- Reach the Ancient Rift area, using the landmark itself as your navigation reference.
- Locate the waterfall near the Ancient Rift, described by guides as south or southeast of the “P” in Pailune and northeast of Sage’s Peak.
- Use Stab to dash through the waterfall rather than searching for a visible doorway.
- Inside Ancient’s Heart Cave, use Force Palm on the wall or boulder blocking the passage.
- Continue to the chest and open it to collect the Vaporwalker boots.
One guide also reports a Refined Palmar Pill in the same chest. Treat that extra item as guide-reported loot rather than a guaranteed official contents list.

Reach the Ancient Rift area
The landmark is around northern Hernand near the Pailune boundary. The guides use slightly different compass descriptions for the waterfall, so searching from a distant cardinal direction can lead you past it. Set your route around the named Ancient Rift landmark first, then look for the waterfall in that immediate area.

Have Stab available
The cave entrance is hidden behind falling water. Stab is the movement skill used to cross the waterfall and enter the cave. If your character cannot perform Stab, the waterfall will appear to be a dead end even when you are standing at the correct location.
Have Force Palm available
After passing through the waterfall, the interior route is blocked. Guides describe the obstruction as either a wall or a boulder, but the required interaction is the same: use Force Palm to destroy it. Without that skill, you can reach the hidden entrance but cannot complete the chest route.
Do not assume an immediate story unlock
Published walkthroughs disagree about when this location becomes reachable. Games.gg says the boots can be collected without waiting for a particular main-story point, while Destructoid says the Pailune region must be unlocked first. Because those accounts conflict, the safest plan is to attempt the trip once the Ancient Rift area is accessible in your game rather than promising that a brand-new character can enter immediately.

Start from the named landmark
Travel toward Ancient Rift in northern Hernand. The waterfall is associated with the Ancient Rift rather than with a separately marked cave icon in the route descriptions. If you are using the map, use the landmark and the nearby Pailune boundary to narrow the search.
Use the surrounding landmarks as a search box
Guides place the waterfall south or southeast of the “P” in Pailune and northeast of Sage’s Peak. Those descriptions are useful for orientation, not for an exact coordinate: the published directions vary. Once Ancient Rift is in view, inspect the cliff and stream area for a waterfall that could conceal a passage behind its water curtain.
Approach from above or from the bank
Two practical approaches are described. You can reach the cliff above the falls and glide down toward the water, or navigate around to the bank at the base. Neither approach changes the item route. Choose the one that gives you a clear line for Stab and avoids repeatedly circling the same cliff face.

- Cliff approach: useful when the upper terrain is easier to reach and you can descend directly toward the waterfall.
- Bank approach: useful when the shoreline is already accessible and you want to stand directly in front of the hidden entrance.
The exact approach is optional; passing through the waterfall with Stab is the required step.
Entering Ancient’s Heart Cave
Line up Stab with the water curtain
Stand close enough to the waterfall to target the hidden space behind it. Activate Stab to dash through the falling water. The entrance is easy to miss if you search for a conventional cave opening, because the waterfall itself is the concealment.
If Stab carries you along the outside of the falls, reposition at the base or adjust your angle from the cliff and try again. The route descriptions identify the skill and the waterfall as the entry method; they do not describe a separate switch, key, or item needed to open the cave.
Break the interior obstruction with Force Palm
Once inside, follow the short passage until the blocked section. The object has been described as a wall in one account and a boulder in another. Use Force Palm on it to clear the way. Do not leave the cave to look for a second entrance if the obstruction is still present: the published route treats Force Palm as the intended solution.
Open the chest
Continue beyond the cleared obstruction to the chest. Interact with it to receive the Vaporwalker boots. A guide also lists a Refined Palmar Pill in that chest, so check the full pickup result before leaving if you want every reported item from the room.

What the Vaporwalker boots do
The defining reward is the unique Skipping Stones skill. Guides describe Skipping Stones as allowing the wearer to slide across shallow water. That makes the boots a traversal item: equip them when a route includes shallow water and use the granted skill to cross it rather than treating every water edge as a normal land path.

Do not treat the Attack and Defense figures as official, universal values for every edition or update. No official Pearl Abyss item page was identified for this route, and the numbers come from guide coverage.
Access timing: why guides disagree
The only unsettled part of the route is the regional or story requirement. Games.gg presents the boots as collectible without waiting for the main story. Destructoid says the Pailune region must be unlocked. Those statements cannot both be treated as a definitive universal gate, and the available evidence does not establish whether the difference comes from progression, version, route access, or wording.
Use this practical rule:
- If your map and movement skills let you reach Ancient Rift, attempt the waterfall route.
- If the boundary or route is blocked, continue the progression that unlocks access to Pailune and return later.
- Do not conclude that the chest is missing solely because you cannot reach the region at your current story point.
This approach avoids wasting time searching for a nonexistent alternate entrance while acknowledging that players may encounter different access conditions.

You cannot find the waterfall
Re-center your search on Ancient Rift. The south/southeast-of-Pailune and northeast-of-Sage’s-Peak descriptions are broad, and guides vary on the exact compass wording. Search the waterfall and cliff system around the named landmark instead of following one compass bearing indefinitely.
Stab does not enter the cave
Try both described approaches: reach the bank at the base of the falls or glide down from the cliff above. Stand directly in front of the water curtain and aim the dash into the falling water. The hidden entrance is behind the waterfall, not beside it.

The passage is blocked
Use Force Palm on the obstruction. The shape may look like a wall or a boulder depending on how it is presented, but the guides identify Force Palm as the clearing action.
You cannot use the required skills
Check that Stab and Force Palm are actually available to your character before making a long trip. The waterfall and the interior barrier are skill checks, so reaching the area without both abilities does not complete the route.
The region is inaccessible
Apply the access-timing rule rather than forcing the route. Since the Games.gg and Destructoid requirements conflict, progress until Ancient Rift is accessible in your playthrough, then revisit the waterfall. The guides do not establish a reliable workaround for a locked regional boundary.
The boots or reported extra item are not in the chest
Confirm that you entered through the waterfall, destroyed the interior obstruction with Force Palm, and opened the chest beyond it. The Vaporwalker boots are reported in that chest, while the Refined Palmar Pill is only reported by one guide and may not be listed identically in every account.
How to use the boots after collecting them
Equip them when water traversal is the goal
After opening the chest, equip the Vaporwalker boots through your normal equipment screen. Their reported benefit is tied to Skipping Stones, so they are most useful when your next route includes shallow water rather than as a generic replacement for every footwear option.

Look for shallow-water crossings
Use Skipping Stones on shallow water surfaces where the game permits the slide. The guides describe the skill’s purpose but do not specify a universal distance, stamina cost, speed value, or behavior in deep water. Do not assume the boots replace swimming, climbing, or every other movement ability.
Keep the route in your map notes
Because the chest is hidden behind a waterfall and the regional directions are approximate, mark Ancient Rift or record the nearby Pailune and Sage’s Peak references after collecting the item. That makes the cave easier to revisit if a later objective sends you across shallow water.

- You can use Stab.
- You can use Force Palm.
- You have located the waterfall near the Ancient Rift and Pailune boundary.
- You passed through the waterfall, not around it.
- You broke the interior wall or boulder with Force Palm.

- You equipped the boots and confirmed that Skipping Stones is available.
The essential route is therefore: Ancient Rift waterfall → Stab through the falls → Force Palm the obstruction → chest → Vaporwalker boots. The location and ability sequence are consistent across the published guides, while the Pailune unlock requirement and numeric item stats should be treated as version- or guide-dependent until an official source clarifies them.
