You may see one of these messages when starting CorelDRAW or an older program installed with it:

  • “This application failed to start because crliui91.dll was not found.”
  • “The file crliui91.dll is missing or corrupted.”
  • “A required component is missing: crliui91.dll.”
  • “Error loading crliui91.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “The program can’t start because crliui91.dll is missing from your computer.”

The crliui91.dll error usually means that an old CorelDRAW installation is incomplete, damaged, or unable to access one of its files. The safest solution is to repair or reinstall the matching CorelDRAW release, not to download a replacement DLL and copy it into a Windows folder.

The 60-second answer

crliui91.dll is an application DLL identified as Corel User Interface, part of CorelDRAW(R) and published by Corel Corporation. Available file metadata identifies it as a legacy Win32, or 32-bit, component. It is not a normal Windows system file.

Try these steps in order:

  1. Check Windows Security or your antivirus quarantine for crliui91.dll.
  2. Repair CorelDRAW from Control Panel.
  3. If repair fails, reinstall the same CorelDRAW release from its legitimate installer or official Corel account.
  4. Install available updates for that Corel release.
  5. Use DISM and System File Checker only if Windows itself also appears damaged.
  6. Do not copy the DLL into System32 or SysWOW64, and do not rename another Corel DLL to match it.

What is crliui91.dll

The filename is associated with CorelDRAW’s user-interface component. Public file metadata describes it as:

  • Publisher: Corel Corporation
  • Architecture: Win32 or 32-bit, according to available metadata
  • Reported version: 9.397.0.0
  • Reported size: approximately 1.23 MB

The version, size, and copyright details come from independent file metadata rather than a current Corel support page. The exact original CorelDRAW release that installed this file has not been independently confirmed.

That distinction matters. Different CorelDRAW releases can use different generations of similarly named files, including crliui100.dll and crliui110.dll. A file with a similar name is not automatically a compatible replacement.

Is crliui91.dll a Windows file

No reliable evidence identifies crliui91.dll as a Windows component. It belongs with the CorelDRAW installation that supplied it.

Do not normally place it in:

  • C:WindowsSystem32
  • C:WindowsSysWOW64

Those folders contain Windows and shared system components. They are not general storage locations for application DLLs. Copying the file there can hide the real installation problem, create version confusion, and expose Windows to an untrusted file.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A 32-bit CorelDRAW program can run on 64-bit Windows through Windows compatibility support. That does not mean it needs a second copy of crliui91.dll in both system folders.

What the error usually means

The file was removed or the installation is incomplete

An interrupted installation, failed update, disk problem, or manual cleanup can remove a CorelDRAW file. This is the most likely explanation when the error appears immediately after installing or updating CorelDRAW.

Antivirus quarantined the file

Security software may have isolated or deleted an old application component. If the problem began immediately after an antivirus detection, inspect its quarantine and protection history before reinstalling anything.

Do not restore the file automatically. Restore it only if:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The CorelDRAW installation is legitimate.
  • The file came from that installation.
  • The detection is clearly a false positive.
  • You have scanned the installer and system.

If you cannot establish those points, reinstall CorelDRAW from a trusted source instead.

The wrong CorelDRAW file is present

A DLL from another CorelDRAW version may have the same general naming pattern but a different interface, dependencies, or internal expectations. Substituting crliui100.dll, crliui110.dll, or an unrelated crliui.dll is not a fix.

A dependency is missing

“Error loading crliui91.dll. The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that crliui91.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by that DLL.

Possible causes include:

  • A missing supporting application file
  • A blocked or inaccessible installation directory
  • Incorrect permissions
  • Security software blocking a dependency
  • An old runtime required by the CorelDRAW release

Repairing the complete application is safer than trying to identify and replace individual dependencies.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The old application is incompatible with modern Windows

A legacy CorelDRAW release may install but still fail on Windows 10 or Windows 11 because of old installers, permissions, drivers, graphics components, or compatibility assumptions. A missing DLL message may be the first visible symptom rather than the entire problem.

Fix 1: Check antivirus quarantine first

This is especially important if the error appeared after a security scan.

Windows Security

  1. Press Windows and type Windows Security.
  2. Open Windows Security.
  3. Select Virus & threat protection.
  4. Select Protection history.
  5. Review recent detections.
  6. Look for an entry involving crliui91.dll, CorelDRAW, or the Corel installation folder.
  7. Open the detection and review its path and action.

If the file was quarantined and the path points to your legitimate CorelDRAW installation, check the detection details before taking action. If you are confident it is a false positive, use the available restore option and start CorelDRAW.

If the detection points to a temporary folder, a download folder, or an unexpected program directory, do not restore it. Remove the suspicious item and perform a full scan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After restoring a trusted file, add an exclusion only if you understand the security risk and the exclusion is limited to the legitimate Corel installation directory. Reinstalling CorelDRAW is preferable when the file’s origin is uncertain.

Other antivirus programs

Open the antivirus program’s quarantine, vault, or history screen and search for the filename. The menu names differ between products. Do not disable antivirus protection simply to force the application to launch.

If the file is repeatedly removed after a clean reinstall, contact the antivirus vendor or use a newer, supported CorelDRAW release rather than downloading a replacement DLL.

Fix 2: Repair CorelDRAW

Corel’s repair process restores missing or corrupted program files and can also restore shortcuts and registry entries.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before starting, close CorelDRAW and other Corel applications. Back up custom workspaces, macros, templates, and other personal settings if they are important.

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type control and press Enter.
  3. Select Uninstall a program under Programs.
  4. Find the installed CorelDRAW Graphics Suite or CorelDRAW product.
  5. Double-click the entry.
  6. Choose Repair.
  7. Follow the repair wizard.
  8. Restart Windows when the wizard finishes.
  9. Start CorelDRAW again.

On some systems, the entry may be labelled Uninstall/Change rather than displaying a separate repair button. Select it and look for Repair in the maintenance window.

How to tell whether repair worked

Repair worked if CorelDRAW starts without the crliui91.dll message and the affected feature opens normally. Test more than the splash screen if possible, because a later crash can indicate another missing dependency or a compatibility problem.

If Repair is unavailable, fails, or reports that the original installation source cannot be found, continue to the reinstall steps.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 3: Reinstall the matching CorelDRAW release

A full reinstall is the definitive fix when repair cannot restore the correct file.

Before uninstalling

Locate one of these legitimate installation sources:

  • The original CorelDRAW installer
  • Installation media supplied with the product
  • The official Corel account or installation portal
  • An installer retained by your organization

Do not rely on a random DLL download page. The installer must match the CorelDRAW product and release already used for your documents, plugins, macros, and templates.

If you have custom settings, export or back them up before removing the application.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reinstall steps

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select Uninstall a program.
  3. Select the CorelDRAW product.
  4. Choose Uninstall and complete the wizard.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Check that your antivirus has not quarantined the installer.
  7. Run the legitimate CorelDRAW installer.
  8. If Windows asks for permission, select Yes.
  9. Use the installer’s default component selection unless you know that a required component was previously excluded.
  10. Finish the installation.
  11. Restart Windows.
  12. Start CorelDRAW and test the operation that previously failed.

If the installer fails, record the exact installer message. A permissions problem, damaged installation media, blocked older setup program, or Windows component problem may need attention before CorelDRAW can be installed.

Do not rename another DLL to crliui91.dll, and do not copy a file from a different CorelDRAW installation unless Corel support confirms that the builds match.

Fix 4: Install updates for the old CorelDRAW release

If the program reinstalls but still fails, look for patches and updates intended for that exact CorelDRAW release through Corel’s official support and installation channels.

Do not assume that a current update supports an ancient release. Modern updates generally do not retrofit old versions. If no compatible update exists, use an appropriately supported CorelDRAW release or run the old program in an environment suitable for legacy software.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can also try the installer’s compatibility settings:

  1. Right-click the CorelDRAW installer.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Compatibility tab.
  4. Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
  5. Choose a Windows version appropriate to the installer’s age.
  6. Select Apply, then OK.
  7. Run the installer again as administrator.

Compatibility mode is not a replacement for the correct installation files. If it does not help, remove the setting and use the official installation support route.

Fix 5: Check permissions and the installation path

A program can report that a module is missing when it cannot read the folder containing the DLL or one of its dependencies.

  1. Find the CorelDRAW shortcut.
  2. Right-click it and select Open file location.
  3. Confirm that the shortcut points to the expected CorelDRAW installation directory.
  4. Right-click the CorelDRAW executable and select Properties.
  5. Open the Security tab.
  6. Confirm that your Windows account has permission to read and execute files in that directory.
  7. If the program was installed for another user, ask an administrator to repair or reinstall it.
  8. Start CorelDRAW by right-clicking its shortcut and selecting Run as administrator for one test.

Do not permanently run every application as administrator unless necessary. If administrator mode changes the result, permissions or per-user configuration may be involved.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the problem affects only one Windows account, create a temporary local user and test CorelDRAW there. A damaged user profile or per-user configuration can prevent an otherwise valid installation from starting.

Fix 6: Install a required runtime only when the error identifies it

crliui91.dll is not identified as a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime DLL. Installing random runtime packages is unlikely to recreate it.

If CorelDRAW displays a separate message naming a missing Microsoft Visual C++ component, install the matching package from Microsoft. A 32-bit application generally requires the x86 redistributable even when Windows itself is 64-bit.

Do not install a runtime merely because the DLL error contains the word “module.” First repair CorelDRAW and identify the actual missing component.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Windows Features are also not a general DLL repair mechanism. Do not enable random .NET Framework or legacy components unless the Corel installer or a separate error specifically requires them.

Fix 7: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC

DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They normally do not recreate a third-party DLL removed from a CorelDRAW installation.

Use them when Windows has other symptoms, such as damaged built-in applications, failed updates, installer failures, or broader system corruption.

  1. Press Windows and type Command Prompt.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt.
  3. Select Run as administrator.
  4. Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
  5. Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for it to complete.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Test CorelDRAW.

Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Windows and CorelDRAW again. If both commands complete without resolving the error, return to CorelDRAW repair or reinstall rather than repeating the commands indefinitely.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC or DISM does not show what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system problems; its free scan shows what it finds, while repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling CorelDRAW remains the definitive fix for this application DLL.

Fix 8: Update drivers only when the symptoms point to a driver

A display or printer driver does not normally replace crliui91.dll. Driver work is relevant when CorelDRAW launches after repair but crashes during drawing, printing, hardware acceleration, or opening a document.

Device Manager steps

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Display adapters if the problem involves graphics.
  4. Right-click the relevant device.
  5. Select Update driver.
  6. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  7. Restart Windows if a driver is installed.

For printer-related failures, expand Printers or Print queues and update the relevant device. Obtain drivers from the hardware manufacturer when Windows cannot find a suitable driver.

Outbyte Driver Updater can show which drivers are reported as outdated, avoiding the manual process of checking many hardware vendors; its free scan identifies the results, while driver installation is handled by the full version. A driver update is not a substitute for repairing the CorelDRAW installation when crliui91.dll itself is missing.

Why downloading crliui91.dll is unsafe

Random DLL download sites create several risks:

  • The file may contain malware or have been modified.
  • It may belong to a different CorelDRAW release.
  • It may be the wrong architecture.
  • It may depend on other missing files.
  • It may not match the application’s private build.
  • Copying it into a system folder can affect unrelated programs.
  • It does not repair damaged registry entries, shortcuts, installers, or dependencies.

The safe sources are the original CorelDRAW installer, installation media, or the official Corel account and support channels. If you do not have the installer, recover the product through Corel’s official installation process rather than downloading the DLL separately.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help

regsvr32 is designed for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal command for installing application libraries.

Running:

regsvr32 crliui91.dll

may produce an error similar to:

The module "...dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.

That message does not prove that the file is corrupt. It usually means the DLL is not designed to be registered that way.

Do not register crliui91.dll unless Corel’s instructions for the exact product release specifically require it. The correct action is normally CorelDRAW repair or reinstallation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Advanced checks when repair does not work

Confirm which program is requesting the file

The error may not come directly from CorelDRAW. It could appear when starting an old bundled utility, plugin, document converter, or another program installed alongside Corel software.

Check:

  1. The window title and full error text.
  2. The shortcut being used.
  3. Task Manager for the process name.
  4. The executable’s file location.
  5. Whether the error occurs only when opening a particular document or plugin.

Repair the program that actually produces the error. Do not assume every program mentioning the filename is the original CorelDRAW executable.

Check the file location

If a copy of crliui91.dll exists, right-click it, choose Properties, and review its location and digital-signature information if available.

A copy inside the expected CorelDRAW installation directory is more plausible than one found in a temporary folder, a download folder, or a random system directory. An unexpected copy should be treated cautiously and scanned.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Consider System Restore

System Restore can be reasonable if the failure began immediately after a known recent change and no installation media is available.

  1. Press Windows and search for Create a restore point.
  2. Open it.
  3. Select System Restore.
  4. Choose a restore point dated before the problem began.
  5. Review the affected programs.
  6. Complete the wizard.

System Restore is not a preferred replacement for reinstalling CorelDRAW. It may remove recent applications or updates, so back up important files first.

Scan for unauthorized modification

If the DLL appears outside the expected CorelDRAW directory, repeatedly reappears after deletion, or has suspicious properties, run a full security scan. Then remove CorelDRAW and reinstall it from a trusted source.

What not to do

  • Do not copy crliui91.dll into both System32 and SysWOW64.
  • Do not install a 64-bit replacement for a 32-bit CorelDRAW application.
  • Do not rename another Corel DLL.
  • Do not mix files from different CorelDRAW releases.
  • Do not use regsvr32 as a generic repair command.
  • Do not expect SFC or DISM to restore a third-party CorelDRAW file.
  • Do not disable antivirus protection simply to bypass quarantine.
  • Do not assume a successful DLL download means the file matches your installation.

FAQ

Which CorelDRAW version installed crliui91.dll

The exact original CorelDRAW release has not been independently verified. Available metadata identifies the file as a legacy CorelDRAW component and reports version 9.397.0.0, but that metadata is not a current Corel release confirmation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is crliui91.dll 32-bit or 64-bit

Available metadata identifies it as Win32, meaning 32-bit. Do not download a second copy for 64-bit Windows or place copies in both Windows system directories.

Should I put it in System32

No. It belongs with the CorelDRAW installation that supplied it. Repair or reinstall the application instead.

Can Visual C++ Redistributable fix the error

Only if CorelDRAW reports a separate missing Visual C++ dependency. Visual C++ Redistributable is not a replacement for crliui91.dll.

Why does Windows say the specified module could not be found

The named DLL may be present while one of its dependencies, its installation path, or its permissions are invalid. Repairing the complete CorelDRAW installation is the safest first response.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I use regsvr32

Usually not. An application-library DLL may not export DllRegisterServer, and registration does not recreate missing application files or dependencies.

What if CorelDRAW starts after reinstall but crashes later

The missing DLL was likely only the first visible symptom. Check CorelDRAW updates, graphics and printer drivers, plugins, permissions, and any later error message. Very old CorelDRAW releases may also require compatibility adjustments on modern Windows.

What is the safest permanent fix

Repair CorelDRAW first. If that fails, uninstall and reinstall the same release from its legitimate Corel installer or official account, then check for updates and antivirus interference.
