What did Crytek announce about the layoffs?
On February 12, 2025, Crytek founder and CEO Avni Yerli said the company planned to lay off an estimated 15% of its approximately 400 employees. That is an estimate, not a confirmed final headcount. Crytek said the cuts would affect both development teams and shared services. GameSpot reproduced Yerli’s statement.
Crytek said it would provide severance packages and career assistance services for affected employees. The announcement did not give details on how those services would be administered. IGN’s report on the announcement describes the support the company said it would offer.

Why is Crysis 4 on hold?
Crytek said it had tried to move developers from the paused Crysis project to Hunt: Showdown 1896. Yerli also said that, although Hunt was still growing, Crytek could not continue as before and remain financially sustainable. The company attributed the cuts to difficult market dynamics and cost-reduction needs; that is Crytek’s explanation, not an independently verified account of its finances or the wider causes of game-industry layoffs. What has Crytek said since the announcement?
In a company update dated December 10, 2025, Crytek said it continued to focus on Hunt: Showdown 1896 and CRYENGINE. The update reported that Hunt had reached 10 million players worldwide in fall 2025. It did not say that Crysis 4 development had resumed, so it provides no new confirmation of a restart. Crytek’s December 2025 update is a dated snapshot of the company’s stated focus, not a new Crysis 4 status announcement.

What the news means for Crysis 4
The confirmed picture is limited: development was put on hold in Q3 2024, and Crytek announced estimated workforce cuts in February 2025 while saying it had tried to move developers to Hunt. Without an announced restart or release date, the game’s future and timing remain uncertain. The layoffs are not, by themselves, proof that Crysis 4 has been cancelled.
