To preview a different knife in a Counter-Strike 2 practice match, enable the developer console, allow knife drops, drop your current knife, then spawn and pick up another model. These commands are for a local or private match where cheats are available; they do not add a knife or skin to your Steam inventory.
How to use knife commands in a CS2 practice match
- Enable the developer console: Open Settings > Game and turn on the developer console option. Open the console using its assigned key.
- Start a local practice match or a private server where you can enable cheats. The cited community guides describe this workflow for practice settings, not official matchmaking.
- Allow the current knife to be dropped. Enter
sv_cheats true; mp_items_prohibited 0; mp_drop_knife_enable truein the console. A September 2026 guide gives the shorter variantsv_cheats 1andmp_drop_knife_enable 1; command syntax and availability can vary by build. [Dexerto] - Drop your held knife using the in-game drop key. The replacement workflow requires the old knife to be on the ground before you create another.
- Create a replacement and pick it up. Use a numeric subclass ID from the list below with
subclass_create <ID>, or try the class-name method described in the next section. Pick up the spawned knife.
If a command is rejected, use console autocomplete rather than assuming an online command list matches your installed build. Type give weapon_knife and inspect the suggestions. [GGRecon]

The following numeric IDs are from a community-authored August 2025 guide, not an official Valve reference. Use each with subclass_create <ID> after dropping your current knife. Individual IDs may not work in every game build. [Dexerto]

Numeric IDs versus knife class names
Community guides describe two approaches: create a knife by numeric subclass ID, or use a knife class name with give. Which one works can depend on the installed build. Numeric IDs are convenient when they match a current list; console autocomplete is a better way to check which class-name commands your game recognizes. [GGRecon]

The give command creates a weapon type; it does not choose a particular skin finish. A spawned knife model is only a match-time preview and is not added to your inventory or retained as an owned item after the game. [Dexerto] [GGRecon]

Troubleshoot a knife command that does not work
- The console reports an unknown command or argument: Check autocomplete for the current class names, then try the available method for your build. Community lists are snapshots and can become outdated.
- No replacement appears: Confirm you dropped your current knife before running the creation command, and that the match allows cheats and dropped knives.
- The knife appears but has the wrong finish: The described commands spawn a model or weapon type, not a selected skin finish.
- You expected to keep the knife: Command-created knives are not inventory grants; they do not persist as owned items after the match.
