Activision says crates award items at random, and that is the central problem with spending on them: you can pay for another chance without getting the cosmetic you came for. The odds can be checked before opening a crate, but knowing them does not make the outcome certain.
What are COD Mobile crates and COD Points?
Crates contain a randomized selection of possible rewards, including weapons, camos, Soldiers and avatars. Activision’s crate FAQ puts the key limitation plainly: “There is no guarantee of receiving a specific item.”
COD Points (CP) are an optional premium currency that players can buy with real money. Activision says CP can be used to buy crates, but crates may also be earned through daily logins, events or advertisements. So this is not a claim that every crate costs money or that spending is necessary to play; the concern is what happens when a player pays for a randomized chance at a particular reward. Activision’s COD Points help page explains the currency and ways it is used.
“I’ve bought several crates, but I haven’t gotten the item I want. Why does this happen?”
Because each opening is a random result, not a purchase of the specific item. Activision says the items in a crate are allocated according to the probabilities listed for that crate. A run of openings can therefore leave you without the item you want, even if it appears among the possible rewards. The rarity of an item does not turn a chance into a promise.

Activision also says a duplicate crate item is converted into Credits, with the amount depending on the item’s rarity. Credits are a separate in-game currency; that conversion is not a refund of the CP spent or an equivalent return of the purchase price. The support article on in-game currency describes the conversion.
How to check the odds for a specific crate
- Open the in-game Store and find the crate you are considering.
- Tap the question-mark icon beside the crate’s name.
- Read the probabilities shown for that specific crate before deciding whether to spend.
Activision’s rarity FAQ says items are randomly allocated according to the probabilities listed. These disclosures let you inspect the stated chances; they do not change the random outcome or guarantee the desired item. Check the crate currently in your store rather than assuming another crate has the same odds.

“What are the different rarities of rewards?”
Rarity labels describe categories of rewards, but a label alone does not tell you the chance of receiving an item. The relevant probability is the one shown for the particular crate. If your goal is one specific reward, inspect its listed chance rather than treating its rarity tier as a reliable guide to how many openings it will take.
A 2024 Norwegian Consumer Council report, Getting Played – The True Cost of Virtual Currency, reproduced a historical COD Mobile crate-probability screen with visible example Credit outcomes of 5.00%, 4.00%, 3.50%, and 3.00%. Those figures document the pictured crate at that time; they are not current odds for a live crate or a general probability table. The report also argues that “the abstraction of premium virtual currencies serves to obscure the cost of the loot boxes.” That is an analysis of premium currencies, not a measurement of how COD Mobile players as a whole feel about crates. Why randomized rewards can feel like a bad deal
The mismatch is straightforward: a player may value one particular cosmetic, while a crate sells a chance at a pool of items. The buyer can spend repeatedly and still not receive that chosen item. Probability disclosure makes the uncertainty more visible, but it does not remove it. A duplicate converted into Credits may have some in-game use, yet it does not undo the cash or CP spent.
That is a reason to be cautious, not evidence that every player dislikes the system or that every crate is unfair. There is no established community-wide statistic here measuring dissatisfaction, and crate odds should not be assumed to describe paid Lucky Draws. The available official documentation does not establish a current universal Lucky Draw cost or item-specific probability table.

What to check before spending
- For a crate, inspect the in-game odds for the exact crate and decide whether the listed chances make sense for your budget.
- Check whether the route is paid with CP or earned through a login, event or advertisement.
- Do not treat a displayed reward as guaranteed unless the specific offer says it is fixed.
- Check the current regional price in your own store. The official U.S. COD:M Web Store is operated on Activision’s behalf by Coda Payments, which Activision identifies as an authorized reseller; its CP bundles and bonuses are live U.S. offers and can change. They do not establish the total cost of a particular Lucky Draw. See the official U.S. COD:M Web Store.
The practical rule is simple: if you would only be satisfied with one specific item, do not assume a randomized purchase will deliver it. Verify the exact odds and price in-game before spending, and treat any unguaranteed reward as a chance rather than a promise.
