CS:GO has a separate Steam listing again, but that does not mean its old achievements or your historical progress have returned. The listing is a more convenient way to launch the legacy client; Valve has not confirmed a method to recover or transfer old CS:GO achievement progress.
What CS:GO’s return to Steam changes
PC Gamer reported on March 4, 2026, that CS:GO had a separate Steam page again. The report quoted a Valve representative describing the change as “a quality of life improvement and easier way to launch it.” The legacy client already existed; players no longer needed to switch depots from within Counter-Strike 2 to launch it. The legacy listing was reported as unlisted and without matchmaking at that time, so availability and services may change.
That is an access change, not evidence that an individual account’s old achievement record has been restored. The current Counter-Strike 2 Steam listing describes CS2 as “A free upgrade to CS:GO,” says CS:GO items move forward to CS2, and currently shows one Steam achievement. That page detail is about the current CS2 listing; it does not document every player’s past CS:GO achievement progress.
Where to check your Steam achievements
Steamworks documentation says achievement information appears in the Steam Community after a game is released. A player’s profile links to a page showing achievements earned and those not yet unlocked. You can check your profile’s achievement display to see what Steam currently shows for your account, but checking it does not restore missing progress.

Valve’s documentation describes Steam’s general achievement display, not a CS:GO-specific recovery process. Valve Support’s CS2 help page covers service medals, coins, and display items and points users to Personal Game Data; it does not give steps for restoring legacy CS:GO achievements.
Can you recover or transfer old CS:GO achievements?
There is no confirmed answer in the reviewed Valve guidance: it does not say whether historical CS:GO achievement progress can be recovered or transferred, provide restoration steps, or announce a planned restoration. The separate legacy listing is not a recovery option, and no official route is established here. Do not treat third-party achievement-unlocking methods as an official way to restore your record.

One player responding to the legacy listing wrote, “Give back my achievements, I had to find a way to unlock the old ones and now they are gone.” That captures an individual complaint, not evidence about what happened to all accounts. No reliable count or percentage of affected players is established.
