Samsung announced that T1 players would practice on curved Odyssey G9 and G7 displays at the organization’s Seoul headquarters training facility. Samsung also announced that its curved C27RG5 would be used in PUBG Europe League matches in 2019.
Those are documented professional arrangements, not proof that curved screens are the norm in esports or that curvature itself improves aim, reaction time, or tournament results.

What the evidence actually shows
The clearest answer to “Do any pro-gamers use curved monitors?” is yes. There are official announcements documenting curved displays in both a professional team training environment and a professional tournament setting.

However, “any pros use them?” and “do most pros use them?” are different questions. The available announcements establish specific equipment arrangements. They do not provide a representative survey of esports players, identify every player who used the displays, or show how long the setups remained in place.

Documented professional examples
| Display or arrangement | Year | Professional setting | What is established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Odyssey G9 and G7 | 2020 | T1 training facility in Seoul | Samsung said T1 teams and players at the organization’s headquarters training facility would practice on these curved monitors. |
| Samsung C27RG5 | 2019 | PUBG Europe League official matches | Samsung announced that the curved monitor would be used for league matches and described it as the first time official matches in that league would be played on curved monitors. |
| ZOWIE XL2586X+ | 2026 | IEM and ESL Pro League events | ZOWIE identified this model as the official competition display for named ESL FACEIT Group events, illustrating that event equipment choices can differ from the curved examples above. |
The first two examples come from Samsung announcements. That matters because sponsorship and equipment partnerships can determine what a team or league supplies. They document use, but they are not independent studies of player preference.
Does this mean curved monitors are common in esports?
No reliable population-wide percentage is established by these examples. There is no named statistic here showing what share of professional gamers use curved displays, and the announcements do not describe the monitor choices of every major team or league.
The 2019 PUBG Europe League announcement should also be read narrowly. Its “first time” wording referred to official matches in that league, not to all esports competitions. It does not establish that curved monitors were the first choice across professional gaming.

The 2026 announcement naming the XL2586X+ for IEM and ESL Pro League events provides current context, but it is not a complete survey of present-day tournament hardware. It shows that professional display selection varies by event, organizer, and commercial arrangement.
What curved monitors change—and what they do not
A curved monitor bends the panel toward the viewer instead of presenting a flat surface. The intended effect is a more enveloping image, particularly on wide screens. Whether that is useful depends on the individual display, viewing distance, game, desk, and personal preference.

Curvature is not a performance specification by itself
Curvature does not automatically determine refresh rate, response behavior, input latency, resolution, or motion clarity. Two monitors can have similar curvature and very different competitive performance, while a flat monitor can outperform a curved one in the specifications that matter for fast play.
For competitive use, evaluate the complete display rather than treating “curved” as a quality grade. A curved panel with unsuitable motion handling is not made competitive merely by its shape, and a flat panel is not inherently slow because it lacks curvature.
Why a player might prefer a curved screen
- Immersion: The image can feel more surrounding on a wide or ultrawide display.
- Viewing comfort: Some people prefer the way a curved screen presents its edges from a normal seated position.
- Personal familiarity: A player who trains on a curved screen may simply prefer its perspective and desktop layout.
- Team or sponsor supply: A player may use a curved model because it is the equipment provided at a facility, not because curvature was independently selected as a performance advantage.
These are plausible reasons to choose a curved monitor, not controlled findings that curvature improves competitive outcomes. The cited announcements contain no comparison showing that curved displays produce better scores, faster reactions, higher win rates, or superior aim.
How tournament monitor choices are made
Professional events often need a consistent display model so competitors face comparable hardware. An organizer or sponsor may specify the monitor used on stage, while teams and players can use different equipment during practice. That creates several distinct situations:
Team training
Samsung’s 2020 T1 announcement concerns practice at the organization’s Seoul headquarters training facility. It supports the statement that curved Odyssey G9 and G7 monitors were part of that announced training setup. It does not establish that every T1 player used them in every session, that the same displays were used at home, or that the arrangement continued indefinitely.

Official competition
The 2019 PUBG Europe League announcement concerns official matches. A league using a curved C27RG5 means competitors in that event encountered curved displays under the league’s announced equipment arrangement. It does not prove that those players preferred curved screens outside the venue.
Different events, different standards
The 2026 ZOWIE announcement for IEM and ESL Pro League events names a different competition display. This contrast is useful: even within esports-oriented events, the official monitor can change. A player’s preferred home monitor and the model supplied at a particular tournament may be completely different.
How to decide whether a curved monitor suits your gaming
If you are choosing a display because you saw a professional setup, start with the game and the conditions in which you play. A professional example can show that a curved monitor is viable; it cannot select the right model for your desk.
1. Identify your games and field of view
Fast first-person shooters, battle royale games, racing titles, strategy games, and cinematic single-player games place different demands on a screen. Consider whether you want a concentrated view for competitive play or a wider, more immersive image. Check how the game handles the resolution and aspect ratio of the particular monitor.
2. Compare the complete specification set
Look at screen size, resolution, refresh rate, response and motion handling, variable-refresh support, and the connections required by your computer or console. Compare like with like: a curved model should be judged against a flat model with similar specifications, not against a slower or lower-resolution product.

3. Measure your desk and viewing distance
Wide curved screens need enough desk depth for comfortable viewing. Sit centered in front of the panel and check that the edges remain within a natural viewing angle. A screen that is too large for the available distance can be tiring regardless of its refresh rate.
4. Consider the environment
Curved screens can be more difficult to share with someone sitting off-center, and their shape may interact with window reflections or an unusual desk layout. If you regularly show your screen to other people, a flat panel may be more convenient.
5. Match your practice setup to your event when necessary
If you compete in a league with a specified monitor, practicing on a similar size, resolution, refresh rate, and viewing distance can reduce adjustment when you arrive at the venue. The most important match is the equipment standard used by your event, not the fact that a famous team once used a curved display.
A practical setup and adaptation checklist
- Place the monitor squarely in front of you. Center your chair and keyboard with the panel’s midpoint rather than sitting at an angle.
- Set the operating resolution and refresh rate correctly. Confirm in your operating system and game settings that the display is running at its intended refresh rate.
- Use the connection that supports your target mode. Check the monitor and graphics hardware documentation for the required DisplayPort or HDMI version before troubleshooting performance.
- Calibrate your familiar settings. Keep your in-game sensitivity, field of view, and input devices consistent while you adapt to the new screen.
- Practice before judging it. Give yourself sessions in the games you actually play. A first impression can reflect unfamiliar screen size or distance rather than a problem with curvature.
- Recheck comfort and visibility. Adjust height, tilt, distance, and room lighting. If the edges feel distracting or the image is uncomfortable, the panel may not suit your setup even if its specifications are strong.
Common mistakes when interpreting pro setups
Assuming a sponsored arrangement proves preference
A manufacturer announcement can accurately document supplied equipment while still reflecting a partnership. It cannot tell you whether an individual player would have bought that monitor independently or selected it over every alternative.
Confusing a particular model with the whole category
“Curved monitor” covers many sizes and specifications. The experience of a large Odyssey G9 is not interchangeable with that of a smaller curved display. Screen geometry, resolution, refresh rate, motion behavior, and distance all affect the result.

Expecting curvature to fix aim or latency
No cited announcement demonstrates a competitive advantage caused by curvature. If a game feels slow or inconsistent, investigate frame rate, input settings, connection mode, motion handling, and player technique rather than assuming the panel’s shape is responsible.
Ignoring the venue’s equipment rules
Players who compete offline should check the organizer’s current monitor policy. A home setup can be curved while the event uses a different model, and the reverse can also happen. Practice plans should account for that transition.
What the documented examples mean for your purchase
The evidence supports a limited but useful conclusion: curved monitors are compatible with professional gaming, including at least one documented team training facility and one documented league competition. It does not support a universal recommendation for curved displays, a claim that most pros use them, or a measurable performance benefit from curvature alone.
Recommended Free Tools
Choose based on the complete display and your circumstances: the games you play, the screen size and resolution you can view comfortably, refresh and motion requirements, your desk, and the monitor standard used at your events. Treat a professional setup as proof that a choice is viable—not as proof that it is mandatory or superior.
