Yes. CD PROJEKT said Cyberpunk 2, formerly codenamed Project Orion, completed its conceptual phase and entered preproduction in May 2025. In its September 2, 2026 earnings call, the company said the team had grown to 184 developers over the prior three months to support the game’s current development phase. CD PROJEKT has not announced a release date or window in the official materials reviewed here.
What is Cyberpunk 2’s current development status?
Cyberpunk 2 is the planned follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077. CD PROJEKT announced on May 28, 2025 that the project had finished its conceptual phase and moved into preproduction. That is the latest stated milestone in the official sources cited here; the company has not described a later production phase. CD PROJEKT’s May 2025 update identifies the milestone.
The project was previously known by its codename, Project Orion. CD PROJEKT’s 2025 announcement refers to it as Cyberpunk 2, while the company’s February 2024 team announcement used the codename. The February 2024 announcement also said the follow-up was being led by CD PROJEKT RED North America, with a team based in the newly created Boston studio and hiring underway in Boston and Vancouver. That describes the team’s setup at the time, not necessarily its current location or structure.
How many developers are working on Cyberpunk 2?
CD PROJEKT reported 184 developers on the game in its H1 2026 earnings call on September 2, 2026. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said: “Over the last three months we expanded the Cyberpunk 2 team to 184 developers to support the game’s current development phase.” This is a company-reported team-size figure, not a schedule estimate. When will Cyberpunk 2 be released?
CD PROJEKT has not announced a release date or release window in the official materials cited here. The preproduction milestone and developer count indicate that work is continuing, but neither establishes when the game will launch. Dates circulating as predictions should not be treated as company guidance.
What is known about the story, platforms, and gameplay?
The cited official updates do not establish Cyberpunk 2’s story, specific setting, platforms, gameplay systems, or final title. The 2024 announcement identified staff involved in the project, including returning leads from Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty and incoming senior hires, but did not confirm sequel features. Until CD PROJEKT announces those details, claims about them remain unconfirmed.

What do the franchise’s sales and business activity tell us?
CD PROJEKT’s September 2026 earnings call described Cyberpunk as an evergreen franchise and discussed licensing collaborations, including Wuthering Waves and Apex Legends, alongside a Cyberpunk trading-card game developed by WeirdCo. The company said licensing can generate revenue and maintain engagement between core releases. These are franchise-level business activities; they do not confirm Cyberpunk 2’s schedule, contents, or launch plans.
The same call reported more than 40 million copies sold for Cyberpunk 2077 and more than 15 million for Phantom Liberty. The transcript contains an internal correction to the Phantom Liberty timing: the spoken line says “in July,” while an investor-relations comment says it should read “in September.” CD PROJEKT also said the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game raised $28 million on Kickstarter and became the platform’s most-funded tabletop game project. Separately, CD PROJEKT reported that the group invested more than 513 million PLN in future releases in 2025, focused mainly on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2. That is a group-wide investment figure, not a Cyberpunk 2-only budget. The figure appears in the company’s FY 2025 earnings materials.
