Which platforms support Cyberpunk 2077?
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with an important generation divide. The base game remains playable on the older consoles, but the current version and expansion content are limited to newer hardware and PC.

PC
The expansion launched on PC through Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and GeForce Now. PC is the most adjustable option: you can select resolution, frame-rate targets, graphics presets, and ray-tracing features according to your hardware. The requirements changed substantially with Update 2.0, so an older specification that ran the launch version is not a reliable guide to the current game.
PlayStation
The base game is listed for both PS4 and PS5, but the current-generation version is the one that receives later patches and supports Phantom Liberty. The official PlayStation listing identifies November 8, 2022 as the last PS4 patch and states that PS5 is required for later patches and the expansion. The complete console bundle is sold as Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for PS5; owners of the base game can instead obtain the expansion separately.

Xbox
Xbox Series X|S supports the current game, Update 2.0 features, and Phantom Liberty. Xbox One remains playable, but CD PROJEKT RED’s support guidance limits new content and the expansion to Series X|S. If you own an Xbox One copy and move to a Series console, check the platform’s upgrade and entitlement rules for your specific edition before purchasing anything again.
Battle.net availability
On September 14, 2026, CD PROJEKT RED announced plans to bring the base game, Phantom Liberty, and the Ultimate Edition to Battle.net later in 2026. That announcement did not provide an exact launch day. Treat the storefront listing and release date as changeable until an official day is published.
Can you play Phantom Liberty on PS4 or Xbox One?
No. Phantom Liberty was not released for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Those consoles can run the base campaign, but they do not receive the expansion, the current-generation overhaul associated with Update 2.0, or subsequent new-content updates. To play Dogtown and the expansion story, use PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S.

What does Phantom Liberty add?
Phantom Liberty is an action-focused spy-thriller expansion set in Dogtown, a new district of Night City. Its central story introduces Solomon Reed and adds a separate chain of missions that intersects with the main campaign. CD PROJEKT RED describes the expansion as the culmination of years of work across its teams.

The expansion is integrated into the campaign rather than being a wholly separate game. Your character, equipment, relationships, and earlier choices can therefore affect how its missions feel and how you interpret its cast.
Do you need to finish the main game before Phantom Liberty?
No. You do not need to complete the entire base campaign first. The expansion becomes available during the main story, and the most coherent spoiler-light approach is to enter it once the game presents the opportunity, then return to the base campaign before its final point of no return.
Starting Phantom Liberty immediately through a menu-created, levelled character is also possible on supported platforms. That option accelerates access to the expansion, but it skips the earlier story progression that establishes characters, factions, and consequences. New players generally get more context by beginning with a normal new game.

Best order to play Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty
1. Start the base campaign normally
Create your character and play through the opening acts. Follow the main jobs and take optional gigs when they fit your preferred pace. This introduces Night City’s major characters and gives your decisions context before the expansion asks you to make consequential choices.
2. Continue until the expansion unlocks
Progress through the main story until the mission chain that opens access to Dogtown appears. The exact trigger is tied to campaign progress, so a first-time player should not worry about finding a separate starting chapter on the title screen.
3. Enter Dogtown and play Phantom Liberty
Once the invitation is available, begin the expansion and follow its principal missions. Complete its major story and side content while the characters, political situation, and new mechanics are fresh. You can leave Dogtown between missions, so you are not permanently locked out of ordinary Night City activities.

4. Stop before the base game’s final point of no return
Do not launch the final endgame sequence until you have finished the expansion if you want the fullest narrative context. The base game warns you when its final point of no return is approaching. Use that warning as your checklist moment: complete Phantom Liberty, resolve side quests you care about, upgrade your build, and make a manual save.

5. Finish the base game and remaining activities
After the expansion, return to the main campaign and proceed through its ending path. Depending on your choices, the expansion can add another possible conclusion to the overall story. When the ending sequence is complete, use the game’s post-ending return option or your pre-ending save to finish outstanding gigs, exploration, and alternate ending preparations.
When should you use the levelled-character shortcut?
The menu option to create a character with an accelerated level and ready-made progression is useful if you have already completed the campaign or want to reach Dogtown quickly. It is less suitable for a first playthrough because it omits the gradual introduction of Night City’s systems and relationships.
- Choose a normal new game for your first complete story, maximum context, and the ability to experience early decisions naturally.
- Choose the levelled start for a replay, a focused expansion run, or a character-build experiment.
- Make a separate save before using the shortcut so you can return to a conventional campaign later.
Can your PC run Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0?
The following targets apply to the base game and Phantom Liberty from Update 2.0 onward. They describe publisher targets, not a guarantee of identical performance in every scene or configuration.

The minimum specification is explicitly a 1080p/30 FPS, non-ray-traced target. It should not be interpreted as a promise of 60 FPS, higher resolutions, or ray tracing. Recommended hardware targets 1080p/60, while ray-tracing presets raise the GPU, memory, and storage demands further. Install the game on an SSD; an NVMe drive is specified for ray-tracing tiers.

Which edition should you buy?
Ultimate Edition
The Ultimate Edition bundles the base game and Phantom Liberty. It is the straightforward choice for a new player on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or a supported digital storefront who wants both pieces without owning either one already. On PlayStation, the listed Ultimate Edition is the PS5 version.
Base game plus expansion
If you already own the base game on a supported platform, buying the Phantom Liberty expansion separately avoids paying for a second copy of the campaign. Confirm that the add-on matches your platform and region, and check whether a listing is a disc, download code, or digital entitlement before checkout.
Older-console ownership
Do not buy the expansion for PS4 or Xbox One expecting it to work. Those versions remain limited to the base game and their final supported update. A move to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S is required for the current edition and expansion access; verify your upgrade path and save-transfer rules for the specific storefront version you own.

Common platform and installation pitfalls
Buying the wrong generation
Store pages can display several editions together. Read the platform label carefully: PS5 and PS4 are separate compatibility targets, and Xbox One is not the same as Xbox Series X|S for expansion support.
Assuming a patch adds Phantom Liberty
Update 2.0-era improvements and the expansion are related but not identical purchases. A supported platform still needs the expansion entitlement to access Dogtown’s story and content.
Running the PC game from a hard disk
The listed requirements call for a 70GB SSD, and ray-tracing tiers specify SSD/NVMe storage. If you encounter long streaming delays or severe hitching on a mechanical drive, moving the installation to an SSD is a practical first check before lowering visual settings.
Expecting a fixed frame rate from the minimum specification
Use the minimum row as a baseline for 1080p/30 without ray tracing. For a higher frame-rate target, enable fewer demanding effects, reduce resolution or upscaling quality, and compare performance in the busiest areas rather than assuming the minimum hardware will scale upward.
