How long does Cyberpunk 2077 take to beat?
The clearest official estimate comes from PlayStation’s current Cyberpunk 2077 FAQ: completing one storyline takes an average of 20–30 hours. That figure describes one path through the story, not every mission, ending or discovery in Night City.

What the 20–30-hour figure means
Cyberpunk 2077 lets you make decisions that shape quests and outcomes. A single playthrough can therefore reach the end of its main storyline without seeing every branch. The PlayStation FAQ specifically points to multiple endings and a large amount of optional content, saying that players can spend hundreds of hours building their legend in Night City.

- Exploration and side content: substantially longer than the main storyline alone.
- Multiple endings: replaying can reveal outcomes and quest paths that a first run does not include.
- Completionist timing: no official completionist-hour number was published in the sources reviewed, so treat any exact larger figure as an estimate rather than a publisher guarantee.
Your total time also depends on difficulty, how often you explore, whether you follow side jobs before advancing the main plot, and whether you play Phantom Liberty. The expansion adds a separate story area and missions, so an edition containing it naturally represents a larger commitment than the base game by itself.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer?
No released multiplayer mode is documented in the official sources covered here. PlayStation’s current product listing identifies Cyberpunk 2077 as 1 player, so you should approach it as a single-player role-playing game.
What “single-player” means in practice
The campaign, character progression, quests and endings are designed for one player. Do not buy the game expecting cooperative missions, competitive matches, an online campaign or a shared Night City server. The reviewed official listings do not announce a released multiplayer component, and the one-player designation is the relevant specification for the currently listed product.
What platforms support Cyberpunk 2077 now?
CD PROJEKT RED’s Update 2.3 FAQ lists five current platform families: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac. Update 2.3 is described as a free update for base-game owners, including owners who do not have Phantom Liberty or the Ultimate Edition.

Current-generation and computer versions
- Xbox Series X|S: receives the newer content updates covered by the current support policy.
- PlayStation 5: receives later patches and can run Phantom Liberty.
- PC: supported through the PC version, with the official Update 2.0/Phantom Liberty hardware table applying to the requirements below.
- Nintendo Switch 2: listed by the Update 2.3 FAQ as a supported platform.
- Mac: also listed by the Update 2.3 FAQ.
Platform availability can differ by edition, storefront and regional release conditions. The list above reflects the platforms named in CD PROJEKT RED’s current Update 2.3 documentation, rather than an assumption that every historical version receives identical features.

Can you play Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4?
Yes, the PS4 version still runs, but it is a legacy version with important limits. PlayStation’s current product page says the PS4 version’s last patch was released on November 8, 2022. Later patches require PS5, and Phantom Liberty requires the PS5 version on PlayStation.
That means a PS4 owner can play the existing PS4 release but should not expect the post-1.6 improvements, Update 2.3-era content or Phantom Liberty on that hardware. If you want the current PlayStation feature set, you need a PS5.
Can you play Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One?
Xbox One still runs the game, but CD PROJEKT RED’s previous-generation support notice says that after Patch 1.6, new content updates and improvements became exclusive to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox One therefore remains usable for the version it received, while later new content and the upcoming expansion are excluded.

Do you need Phantom Liberty to play Cyberpunk 2077?
No. Phantom Liberty is an optional expansion. You can play the base game and receive free base-game updates such as Update 2.3 without owning it. You need to purchase Phantom Liberty only if you want its Dogtown setting, expansion story and associated content.
Can you play Phantom Liberty without the base game?
No. CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement identifies the base game as a requirement. Phantom Liberty is an expansion, not a standalone game, so a Phantom Liberty purchase must be paired with Cyberpunk 2077.
When and where did Phantom Liberty launch?
Phantom Liberty launched on September 26, 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. The PC release was distributed through Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store, and it was also available through GeForce Now. The expansion was not released for PS4 or Xbox One.

No. CD PROJEKT RED’s Update 2.3 FAQ says the update is free to base-game owners, including players without Phantom Liberty and players who do not own the Ultimate Edition. Expansion-specific missions and Dogtown content remain tied to Phantom Liberty, but the free update itself is not locked behind that purchase.

Ultimate Edition versus the base game
The Ultimate Edition bundles Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty. It is the straightforward choice for someone who owns neither product and already knows they want the complete current story package. Buying Phantom Liberty separately is logical for an existing base-game owner who wants the expansion without purchasing the base game again.

Check the edition description for your platform before buying. A bundle does not remove platform restrictions: an Ultimate Edition copy cannot make Phantom Liberty run on PS4 or Xbox One.

CD PROJEKT RED’s official support table for Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty gives the following non-ray-tracing targets. The requirements are tied to that update and expansion context; later patches can change performance characteristics or supported configurations.

How to interpret the table
- SSD storage is part of the requirement: the table specifies 70GB on an SSD, not merely 70GB of free space on any drive.
- Minimum is a defined target: the minimum row aims at 1080p, 30 FPS and Low settings. It is not a promise of High settings or a locked 60 FPS.
- Recommended is also specific: the recommended row targets 1080p, 60 FPS and High settings without ray tracing.
- Ray tracing is outside these rows: the quoted figures are explicitly non-ray-tracing targets, so a ray-traced configuration needs separate evaluation.
- Laptop names are not enough: compare the actual CPU, GPU model and graphics memory in your computer with the listed parts.
If your computer is below the minimum, the game may fail to meet the stated 1080p/30-FPS Low target. If it falls between the minimum and recommended configurations, expect to adjust resolution, image quality, crowd density and other settings rather than assuming the recommended 60-FPS High result.

Was there a free trial?
CD PROJEKT RED’s 2024 FAQ documented a five-hour free trial on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The trial covered the base game only, and progress could carry into a later purchase. Because that offer is dated to the 2024 FAQ rather than presented as a permanent entitlement, check the current store listing for your region before relying on its availability.
Which version should you choose?
Choose the base game when
- You want to experience the original campaign first and are not yet sure you want Dogtown.
- You already own Phantom Liberty through a separate purchase or are buying only the core game.
- You are on a platform where Phantom Liberty is unavailable and only want the legacy release that still runs.
Choose Phantom Liberty separately when
- You already own Cyberpunk 2077 on a compatible platform.
- You specifically want the expansion story and Dogtown without buying another copy of the base game.
- Your hardware is PS5, Xbox Series X|S or a PC that meets the applicable requirements.
Choose the Ultimate Edition when
- You are a new player who wants both the base campaign and Phantom Liberty.
- You prefer one purchase instead of managing separate base-game and expansion licenses.
- You have confirmed that your platform is supported and is not a PS4 or Xbox One system for which Phantom Liberty is unavailable.
Common points of confusion
“The game still works on my old console, so why can’t I get the expansion?”
Running the legacy release and receiving current content are different things. PS4 and Xbox One versions remain playable, but post-Patch 1.6 new content and improvements moved to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Phantom Liberty was built for the newer platform generation and PC.
“Do free updates mean I own Phantom Liberty?”
No. Free updates apply to the base game according to the publisher’s update policy; they do not grant ownership of the paid expansion. Dogtown and Phantom Liberty’s dedicated story content still require the expansion license.
“Does the 20–30-hour estimate include every ending?”
No. PlayStation describes that number as the average time to complete one storyline and separately notes multiple endings and extensive optional discoveries. It should not be read as an all-endings or completionist estimate.
Bottom line for prospective players
Expect a roughly 20–30-hour route through one storyline, with far more time available if you pursue side content, alternate endings and exploration. Treat Cyberpunk 2077 as a one-player RPG rather than a multiplayer game. For the current feature set, choose PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch 2 or Mac; PS4 and Xbox One remain playable but are frozen at their respective legacy support limits. Buy only the base game if you want the original campaign, add Phantom Liberty if you want Dogtown, or choose the Ultimate Edition when you are starting from zero and want both.
