Cyberpunk 2077 is already available on Mac. CD PROJEKT RED released Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on July 17, 2025—months after its October 30, 2024 announcement promised an “early next year” launch. The native macOS version requires an Apple-silicon Mac, at least 16GB of unified memory, macOS 15.5 or later, and an SSD.
The Mac edition includes the base game, Phantom Liberty, and updates available at launch. Existing owners on Steam, GOG.com, or the Epic Games Store can download the Mac version without buying it again through the same storefront account.

When did Cyberpunk 2077 come to Mac?
CD PROJEKT RED announced the Mac version on October 30, 2024, describing it as an early-2025 release. The actual launch took place on July 17, 2025. It is therefore not an upcoming 2026 or 2027 release; the “next year” wording refers to the original 2024 announcement.

What is included in the Mac version?
The available release is Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. It contains:
- The complete base game.
- The Phantom Liberty expansion.
- Updates available with the Mac launch, including Update 2.3 according to CD PROJEKT RED.
CD PROJEKT also highlights Apple-silicon optimization, Metal integration, ray-tracing support, frame generation, HDR tuned for Apple XDR displays, and built-in Spatial Audio. Head-tracked Spatial Audio is supported with compatible AirPods. These are developer-stated features, not independent performance measurements.
Which Macs can run Cyberpunk 2077?
The official minimum requirements are:
- Processor: Apple M1 or later.
- Memory: 16GB of unified memory or more.
- Operating system: macOS 15.5 or later.
- Storage: SSD installation.
- Free space: 92GB through Steam, GOG.com, or Epic Games Store; 159GB through the Mac App Store.

- Intel Macs: unsupported by the native Mac release.
- 8GB Apple-silicon Macs: below the official 16GB minimum, even if lowering graphics settings might appear technically possible.
- macOS versions older than 15.5: do not meet the requirement. Updating macOS alone will not help if the Mac also lacks Apple silicon or sufficient memory.
The listed storage figure is not necessarily the total temporary space needed during installation or updates, so leave additional room available on the SSD.

Cyberpunk 2077 Mac system requirements and performance targets
CD PROJEKT RED publishes the following configuration tiers. The frame rates and resolutions are developer targets, not guaranteed benchmarks for every model, display, game patch, or workload.

The practical distinction is important: an M1 Mac with 16GB meets the minimum, but it is associated with a lower-resolution 30fps target. A Mac that meets the requirements is not automatically a high-settings or high-refresh-rate machine.
What is the “For This Mac” setting?
The game includes a “For This Mac” graphics preset. It automatically chooses settings and resolution intended to balance image quality and performance for the specific Mac.
CD PROJEKT RED warns that higher resolutions can significantly reduce frame rate. For an external display, the company recommends using the resolution assigned by the preset. A Mac that performs acceptably on its built-in screen may deliver a different result on a 4K or 5K monitor.

Ray tracing is supported on compatible hardware, but it is not enabled by default in the automatic preset, even when the Mac can use it. Feature support should not be treated as a recommendation to enable ray tracing on every model.
Do Steam, GOG, and Epic purchases carry over to Mac?
Yes, within the supported storefronts. CD PROJEKT RED says owners who purchased the game on GOG.com, Steam, or the Epic Games Store can download the Mac version without purchasing it again when they use the same storefront account.
- Open the Steam, GOG, or Epic client associated with your existing purchase.
- Check whether the Mac version is available in your library.
- Confirm that your Mac meets the chip, memory, macOS, and storage requirements.
- Do not buy a second copy until the existing entitlement has been checked.
This is not a universal cross-buy promise. A purchase on one storefront should not be assumed to unlock the game on another. Console purchases on PlayStation or Xbox should not be assumed to grant a Mac license either. The launch announcement’s confirmed free-access policy applies to qualifying purchases on GOG.com, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

Where can you buy Cyberpunk 2077 for Mac?
The Mac version is officially distributed through four outlets:
The best choice depends mainly on your existing library and ownership preferences:
- Steam: the natural choice if you already use Steam or own the game there.
- GOG.com: a strong fit for readers who prefer CD PROJEKT’s storefront and DRM-free distribution.
- Epic Games Store: useful for existing Epic users; its product listing identifies Mac OS as a supported platform.
- Mac App Store: the simplest Apple-native purchasing route, but CD PROJEKT lists a substantially larger 159GB storage requirement for this version.
Prices, discounts, currencies, refund terms, and regional availability can change. Compare the live listings for your country rather than relying on an old price snapshot. Do not assume one storefront provides better performance without independent testing.
Should you buy a Mac specifically for Cyberpunk 2077?
If the game is the main reason for the purchase, treat the minimum specification as a floor rather than an ideal target. An M1 Mac with 16GB meets the official minimum and has a 30fps lower-resolution target. CD PROJEKT RED’s recommended tier is an M3 Pro with 18GB of unified memory and a 60fps 1080p-class target.

When comparing Macs, prioritize:
- At least 16GB of unified memory; more is preferable for higher-fidelity configurations.
- Sufficient SSD capacity beyond the game’s listed installation size.
- Sustained cooling if you expect long sessions, since laptop thermals can affect sustained performance.
- Your intended display resolution. Driving a 4K or 5K external display is more demanding than using a lower-resolution built-in panel.
- Whether fan noise, battery drain, portability, and your non-gaming software needs matter more than the game alone.
These are practical interpretations of the official tiers, not independent hardware-test results. Apple’s Mac store and Mac overview can be used to check current models, but prices and configurations should be verified at the time of purchase.
What if your Mac is unsupported?
Cloud gaming
Cloud gaming may be useful for Intel Mac owners, 8GB systems, or anyone who does not want a large local installation. NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW is one possible route, but game availability, supported storefronts, account-linking rules, plan features, queues, pricing, stream quality, and membership tiers can change.
Cloud streaming is not equivalent to the native Mac port: it requires reliable broadband and introduces streaming latency and image compression. It is a poor fit for users with unstable internet or very low tolerance for input delay.

A Windows gaming PC remains the more flexible alternative for readers who want a wider choice of graphics hardware, high-refresh-rate configurations, extensive mod support, and easier component upgrades. That is a platform alternative, not evidence that the Mac release is inferior in every respect.
Compatibility layers
Tools such as CrossOver can be useful for other Windows-only games, but they are unnecessary as the first choice for a supported Apple-silicon Mac now that an official native version exists. They are also not the simplest officially supported route for this game.

- Already own it on Steam, GOG, or Epic? Check the same account’s library before paying again.
- Buying for the first time? Choose the storefront that best matches your existing library, DRM preference, and storage situation.
- Have an Intel or 8GB Mac? Consider cloud gaming or another platform rather than treating the native version as supported.
- Buying a Mac for the game? Do not choose an 8GB model. Use the M1/16GB minimum and M3 Pro/18GB recommended tiers as the baseline.

Cyberpunk 2077 did come to Mac, but not “next year” in the present tense: the launch was July 17, 2025.
