How to open Photo Mode
CD PROJEKT RED describes Photo Mode simply: “Photo Mode lets you take screenshots in Cyberpunk 2077.” The shortcut depends on the platform.

These combinations open the mode; they are not a universal list of camera, lens, or movement commands. After the interface appears, read the control legend shown in Photo Mode before moving the camera. That legend reflects your current platform, controller or keyboard setup, and installed game version.
Opening it on PC
- Load into the game world rather than remaining in a menu.
- Press N.
- When the Photo Mode interface appears, pause to identify the controls for camera movement, rotation, height, lens, focus, and interface navigation.
- Compose the shot, hide any interface elements offered by the mode, and use the capture command shown on screen.
Opening it on PlayStation
- Enter gameplay.
- Press the left-stick and right-stick buttons together: L3 + R3.
- Use the overlay’s controller legend for movement and camera adjustments.
Opening it on Xbox
- Enter gameplay.
- Press both stick buttons: LS + RS.
- Follow the on-screen legend for the available camera and composition controls.
Where Cyberpunk 2077 screenshots are saved
Windows PC folder
The official Windows location for Photo Mode output is %UserProfile%PicturesCyberpunk 2077. To open it, copy the path, press Windows key + E to open File Explorer, paste the path into the address bar, and press Enter. Windows expands %UserProfile% to your account’s home directory.

If the folder does not appear, first make and save a test image from Photo Mode. Check that you are looking at the same Windows account used to run the game and that you are checking the Pictures folder rather than a platform launcher’s screenshot directory. Do not assume that every image made while the game is running belongs in this folder.
PlayStation Capture Gallery
On PlayStation, open Settings → Storage → System Storage → Capture Gallery → Cyberpunk 2077. The console’s gallery is the place to view, copy, edit, or share captures made through the system workflow. Menus can differ slightly by console software revision, but the Capture Gallery path is the relevant starting point.
Xbox Recent captures
On Xbox, press the Xbox button, choose Capture & share, then open Recent captures. From there you can review and manage the image using the console’s own capture tools.
Why another screenshot may be somewhere else
Photo Mode’s native output and a screenshot triggered by an external tool are separate workflows. A Steam screenshot, Xbox Game Bar image, GeForce Experience capture, or console share-button capture can be stored in a different location from the game’s own Photo Mode file. If an image is missing from the Cyberpunk 2077 Pictures folder or console game album, identify which capture command actually created it before troubleshooting the game.

Photo Mode camera controls and remapping
The only fixed cross-platform control is the entry shortcut. The exact camera-axis layout is not safely represented by one keyboard table for every player: it can change with platform, input device, control profile, and patch. The most reliable procedure is to open Photo Mode and use the legend drawn in the current overlay.
PC keyboard and mouse
GOG documents that keyboard and mouse controls are almost fully remappable, with menu shortcuts as the exception. Open the game’s control settings, inspect the Photo Mode entries, and change the actions that matter to your setup. If a menu command does not offer a replacement, retain its default binding and remap movement or camera actions around it.
After changing a binding, return to Photo Mode and test one action at a time. Confirm which input moves the camera, which rotates it, and which changes altitude or lens behavior. A control can appear to be unresponsive when the cursor is focused on a menu rather than the viewport, so close or move focus away from the panel before testing camera movement.

On PlayStation and Xbox, use the controller labels in the overlay rather than translating a PC guide. Stick-click labels differ by platform terminology: PlayStation uses L3 and R3, while Xbox uses LS and RS. The overlay also indicates which stick or trigger controls a particular axis in the current version.

When a control seems wrong
- Reopen Photo Mode and read the legend again; controls can differ between the free-camera and menu portions of the interface.
- Check whether a custom control profile changed the action.
- Disconnect or disable an alternate input device temporarily to rule out input focus conflicts.
- Restore the default Photo Mode bindings, test, and then reapply custom changes one at a time.
- Do not rely on a control list copied from an older patch when the in-game legend gives a different assignment.
How to get higher-quality Cyberpunk 2077 screenshots
Image quality is a balance between the output resolution you want, the detail settings your hardware can render, and the time available for each frame. There is no single best setting for every graphics card or display. Build the shot at the highest resolution your system can render reliably, then inspect the saved file at 100% zoom before deciding that a setting helped.
Set a practical resolution target
- Select the highest output resolution that your PC or console can sustain without instability or unacceptable rendering delay.
- Compose a test scene containing fine geometry, bright lights, and dark areas; these reveal softness, aliasing, and noise more clearly than a flat wall.
- Capture the same composition after each major change, and compare the files at 100% zoom rather than judging only a scaled preview.
Higher resolution increases the number of pixels that must be rendered and saved. If a capture takes too long or the game becomes unreliable, step down to a stable target before sacrificing the composition itself.
Use texture and lighting detail where it shows
Keep textures and lighting as high as your hardware allows. Textures affect surface detail, while lighting quality determines whether faces, neon signs, reflective materials, and shadows read correctly. Raising every option at once makes it difficult to identify which change improved the image, so adjust one group at a time and retain the setting only if the saved file benefits.
Understand path tracing and DLSS 3.5
CD PROJEKT RED’s Ultimate Edition booklet identifies DLSS 3.5 and Ray Tracing: Overdrive (path tracing) as PC graphics capabilities. On supported hardware, path-traced lighting can produce a more complete lighting solution, while DLSS 3.5 can help balance image quality and rendering performance. Both choices depend on the GPU, selected resolution, and the rest of your graphics configuration.

These features are not free quality switches. Path tracing raises rendering cost, and a higher-quality reconstruction mode can alter performance or detail in ways that are visible at full size. Enable them, capture a representative scene, and compare the resulting file. If the frame rate drops, capture preparation becomes slow, or the image develops artifacts that matter to your subject, use a less demanding combination.
Compose before increasing settings
A technically expensive frame is not automatically a better photograph. Place the subject against a readable background, avoid clipping important highlights, and choose a viewpoint that gives the character or scene clear separation. Once the composition works, spend additional render time on resolution, lighting, and texture detail that the final image can actually show.

Official CD PROJEKT RED Photo Mode challenge rules accept screenshots saved as .png or .jpg. That establishes the native formats used for those submissions, not one universal resolution, quality slider, or compression level for every platform and patch.

For an unaltered master, keep the original file produced by the game. If you edit for a challenge or publication, check that event’s rules first. The cited challenge rules permit flipping or cropping only, so color grading, retouching, compositing, and other changes would not meet those specific entry conditions.

A reliable screenshot workflow
1. Prepare the scene
Move the character or camera into position, remove distractions where the game allows it, and wait for lighting or animation to reach the moment you want. Save before experimenting if recreating the scene would be difficult.
2. Enter Photo Mode
Press N on PC, L3 + R3 on PlayStation, or LS + RS on Xbox. Confirm that the Photo Mode interface, rather than an external screenshot overlay, is active.
3. Configure the camera from the overlay
Use the legend to identify movement, rotation, height, lens, focus, and any available depth-of-field or framing controls. If the layout is uncomfortable on PC, remap the available keyboard and mouse actions, remembering that menu shortcuts are the documented exception.
4. Check the image at full size
Capture a test image, open the resulting file or console preview, and inspect it at 100% zoom. Look for clipped highlights, soft textures, unwanted motion, aliasing, or an obstructed subject. Correct the camera or settings before making a final capture.
5. Verify the destination
On Windows, check %UserProfile%PicturesCyberpunk 2077. On PlayStation, use Capture Gallery; on Xbox, use Recent captures. If you used a launcher or operating-system screenshot command instead, follow that tool’s storage workflow instead of searching only the game folder.
Troubleshooting missing or low-quality captures
The shortcut does nothing
- Make sure you are in gameplay and not in a screen that intercepts input.
- Press the platform-specific combination exactly: N, L3 + R3, or LS + RS.
- On PC, check whether a custom keyboard profile changed the Photo Mode entry action.
- On a controller, verify that both stick buttons register outside Photo Mode.
The file is not in the expected folder
- Confirm that the image was captured with Photo Mode rather than Steam, Xbox Game Bar, GeForce Experience, or a console system shortcut.
- Paste the complete Windows path into File Explorer instead of browsing a similarly named folder.
- On console, check the platform gallery and the Cyberpunk 2077 album or Recent captures list.
- Create one fresh test capture and note which command created it before searching again.
The image looks softer than expected
- Open the saved file at 100% zoom; a thumbnail or social-media preview may be scaled.
- Raise output resolution if the hardware can render it reliably.
- Increase texture and lighting quality selectively, then compare a new capture.
- Test DLSS 3.5 and path tracing only on supported PC hardware, because their performance cost varies by GPU and resolution.
Which edition supports the workflow?
CD PROJEKT RED states that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition includes the base game and Phantom Liberty and is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Photo Mode access and storage steps above are organized by platform; the edition name does not change the Windows folder or console gallery workflow.
