CD PROJEKT RED’s latest earnings presentation marks a record milestone for Cyberpunk 2077 as of 3 July 2026, but the company’s published explanations do not establish that the anime, a specific patch or discounts independently caused it. The clearest explanation is for the 2025 sales spike: CD PROJEKT says it was mainly driven by the game’s PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogue inclusion and the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2.
How many copies has Cyberpunk 2077 sold?
CD PROJEKT RED’s H1 2026 earnings presentation identifies a record milestone for Cyberpunk 2077 and dates the figure as of 3 July 2026. The details available for that presentation do not state the milestone’s numerical total, so it should not be confused with the company’s previously announced figure of more than 35 million copies, reported in November 2025.

What caused the 2025 sales spike?
CD PROJEKT’s 2025 annual report attributes the spike mainly to two commercial developments: Cyberpunk 2077 joining the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogues, and the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2. The report also says its 2025 sales charts include payments associated with the PlayStation Plus catalogue inclusion. That measure is not simply a count of standalone game copies.

The company’s Q3 2025 earnings release separately said group revenue benefited from stronger year-over-year performance for Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty on existing platforms, PlayStation Plus inclusion from July, and launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac. That revenue explanation is not an exact breakdown of copy sales.
Did Cyberpunk: Edgerunners or the 2.0 update drive sales?
The materials cited by CD PROJEKT do not quantify the anime’s independent effect on sales or assign a specific sales contribution to the 2.0 update. The company’s fifth-anniversary announcement lists Update 2.0 among the game’s wide-ranging updates, which provides lifecycle context, not proof that the patch caused the later record.

It is therefore more accurate to treat the anime and updates as part of the game’s broader audience and product history than to credit either as a demonstrated cause of the latest milestone. The clearest company-attributed drivers concern the 2025 catalogue and platform developments.
Why sales charts need a scope note
CD PROJEKT’s 2025 annual report uses different definitions across its historical chart periods. Its 2020–2022 figures show base-game sales only. Its 2023–2025 figures aggregate standalone base-game sales, standalone Phantom Liberty sales and sales of both items in the Ultimate Edition bundle; the 2025 charts also include payments associated with PlayStation Plus catalogue inclusion.

As a result, the chart periods are not directly comparable as a single series of standalone base-game copies. The 2023 increase has a separate explanation in the report: CD PROJEKT attributes it to the September 2023 release of Phantom Liberty. The expansion had passed 10 million copies by 28 May 2025.

For the game’s fifth anniversary in December 2025, CD PROJEKT RED announced limited-time discounts of up to 65% on Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition across various storefronts and platforms. That was a dated promotion, not evidence of a current offer or a quantified cause of the later record milestone.
