Can your Mac run Cyberpunk 2077?
The official minimum is an Apple M1-or-newer Mac with 16 GB of unified memory, macOS 15.5 or later, and an SSD. Intel Macs are not listed as compatible. An 8 GB Apple-silicon Mac also falls below the published memory requirement.

What is the “For This Mac” preset?
The game includes an automatic graphics preset called For This Mac. It chooses graphics settings and resolution based on the individual Mac’s hardware, making it the best starting point for players who do not want to tune every option manually.
It is not a performance guarantee. Start with the preset, then test in a demanding area such as central Night City rather than judging performance only inside an interior or during a quiet scene. If the frame rate is lower than expected, reduce resolution before raising or lowering numerous visual settings. CD PROJEKT RED warns that increasing resolution can significantly reduce frame rate.
For an external display, the developer recommends using the resolution selected by For This Mac. Driving a substantially higher resolution can impose a large performance cost, especially on base-chip Macs.

- Ray tracing: the Mac App Store identifies ray tracing support on M3 and newer chips. It is hardware-dependent and should not be presented as a high-quality baseline feature on every M1 or M2 Mac.
- For This Mac behavior: ray tracing is not enabled by default in the automatic preset, regardless of whether the hardware supports it.
- Frame generation: available as part of the Mac version’s advanced graphics feature set, but its usefulness depends on the base frame rate and the player’s tolerance for additional latency.
- HDR: tuned for compatible Apple XDR displays and other HDR-capable screens. The game supporting HDR does not make a normal SDR panel HDR-capable.
- Spatial Audio: built-in support with head tracking for compatible Apple AirPods and hardware.

The Mac App Store listing also advises allowing approximately 15% additional space during download and installation. The developer notes that temporary installation and update requirements vary.
Those figures are not necessarily contradictory. Storefronts can package, stage, and install files differently. Do not begin the installation with only the nominal download amount free. A Mac with roughly 160 GB available may still fail to install the App Store version once temporary files and updates are considered.

The Mac App Store is the most straightforward choice for someone who wants an Apple-managed installation, updates, and library experience. It may also appeal to players who prefer Game Center integration or keep most of their games in Apple’s ecosystem.
The U.S. listing showed a price of $82.90 on August 16, 2026. That is a time- and region-specific observation, not a permanent price; check the listing before buying. The App Store version is also listed at approximately 159 GB and is a separate purchase from Steam, GOG.com, and Epic Games Store.

Steam
Steam is usually the logical option for an existing Steam owner. CD PROJEKT RED says eligible owners can download the Mac build without buying the game again. Steam may also be preferable if you want your existing library, achievements, cloud features, and controller workflow in one client.
You will need the Steam client, and the current regional price and sale status should be checked on the live listing. Steam’s age gate can hide product details until you confirm your age.

GOG.com is a strong choice for existing GOG customers and for buyers who prioritize CD PROJEKT’s own storefront and DRM-free distribution. It may not reproduce every Steam-specific library or social feature, and DRM-free ownership does not by itself guarantee automatic cross-platform save behavior.

Epic is most convenient for players who already keep their games there. Existing Epic owners are included in CD PROJEKT RED’s stated free Mac-download entitlement, subject to compatibility and account ownership. The Epic launcher is required, and current regional availability, pricing, cloud-save behavior, and Mac entitlement should be verified on the live store.
Use the official Epic Games Store to check the current listing.
A purchase on one storefront generally does not create ownership on another. A Steam purchase should not be expected to unlock the Mac App Store version, and an App Store purchase should not be expected to appear in a Steam library.
Do existing PC owners get the Mac version free?
According to CD PROJEKT RED, existing owners on GOG.com, Steam, or Epic Games Store can download the Mac version at no additional charge on an eligible Apple-silicon Mac. This statement should not be generalized to PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or Mac App Store purchases.
Base-game and DLC ownership can also matter. The Mac product is sold as Ultimate Edition, while the launch announcement refers broadly to owners of a copy on the named PC storefronts. Before assuming you receive the complete package, check whether your account owns:
- The base game.
- Phantom Liberty.
- The complete Ultimate Edition bundle or equivalent DLC entitlement.
If the Mac build does not appear, do not immediately buy it again. Sign in to the same storefront account used for the original purchase, update the storefront client, refresh or restart the library, confirm the game is owned on that storefront, and verify that the Mac meets the hardware and macOS requirements. If the entitlement remains missing, contact the storefront or CD PROJEKT RED support.
Performance: what should you realistically expect?
The official table is the safest performance guide. It places minimum M1 hardware at a 30-fps target and starts the recommended 60-fps configuration at an M3 Pro with 18 GB of memory. That is why claims such as “every M1 runs it perfectly” or “every M4 guarantees 60 fps” are misleading.
Actual results can vary with:
- Base, Pro, Max, or Ultra chip tier.
- Unified-memory capacity and memory pressure.
- Internal versus external display.
- Output resolution.
- Ray tracing and frame-generation settings.
- Laptop power mode, charging state, and thermal limits.
- Background applications.
- Game and macOS versions.
- Dense outdoor areas versus interiors.
For the most consistent laptop experience, test while connected to power, close unnecessary applications, and allow the machine to manage heat without being enclosed or obstructed. Battery performance, fan noise, and sustained frame rates will vary by model.

Independent testing can add useful context, but benchmark numbers are not universal. Results from one Mac model, resolution, patch, power state, and scene should not be converted into a guarantee for every M1–M4 system. Saves, cross-progression, and ownership are separate
Do not treat cross-progression as automatic. There are several different systems involved:
- Local saves: stored on the Mac.
- Storefront cloud saves: managed by Steam, GOG.com, or Epic, depending on where you play.
- CD PROJEKT RED account cross-progression: may allow saves to move between supported platforms after account setup.
- Ownership: determines whether you can launch the Mac build at all.
- DLC entitlement: determines whether Phantom Liberty and related content are available on the destination platform.
The Mac App Store listing includes a developer response to a user who had trouble synchronizing cross-progression saves and was directed to CD PROJEKT RED support. That confirms that account-based synchronization can require troubleshooting; it does not prove that every combination of console, PC, Mac, account, and DLC will transfer automatically.
Before relying on a cross-platform save, verify that the correct CD PROJEKT RED account is linked, cross-progression is enabled on the source platform, the save has uploaded successfully, and the destination platform has the required DLC. Console ownership should not be assumed to unlock the Mac version.
Common problems and practical fixes
The Mac version is missing from your library
- Sign in to the same Steam, GOG.com, or Epic account used for the purchase.
- Update the storefront client.
- Confirm the account owns the game on that specific storefront.
- Verify the Mac has an M1-or-newer chip, 16 GB or more of memory, and macOS 15.5 or later.
- Refresh or restart the library after fully quitting the client.
- Make sure you are not looking for a Steam, GOG, or Epic entitlement inside the Mac App Store.
If it still does not appear, contact support before purchasing a second copy.
Installation fails despite enough listed space
Free substantially more space than the listed 92 GB or 159 GB figure, because temporary installation and update requirements vary. The App Store listing’s additional-space warning is especially important. Also confirm that the destination is an SSD rather than an HDD.
Frame rates are lower than expected
- Start with For This Mac.
- Lower resolution first.
- Disable ray tracing.
- Reduce advanced graphics options if latency or smoothness is a problem.
- Close background applications.
- Connect a Mac laptop to power.
- Test the internal display separately from an external monitor.
- Update macOS and the game.
- Check storage space and thermal conditions.
These are sensible troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes for every configuration.
Cross-progression does not work
Check CD PROJEKT RED account sign-in, account linking, cross-progression settings on the source platform, successful save upload, and DLC ownership on the destination platform. If the save still does not appear, use current official support instructions rather than assuming the purchase or save is defective.

App Store user reviews have reported freezes, audio-device recognition problems, and photo-mode crashes on particular configurations. These are anecdotal reports, not evidence that every Mac has the same defect. If you encounter one, record your Mac model, chip, memory, macOS version, game version, display, and audio device before checking current patch notes and support guidance.
