The yellow ball grants the thunder staff, the red ball grants the fire staff, and those staffs remove the ice and other obstacles hiding required items. Finish with the silver eagle for the normal ending, or turn it gold at the pentagram before placing it in the gate for the best ending.
This guide is arranged as a spoiler ladder. Start with the light hints if you want to preserve discovery, then use the full route when an item or transition is unclear. It covers the legacy point-and-click game commonly identified as Cygnus Gate; similarly named games and services are outside its scope.

Light hint
Search every platform, chest, sign and doorway in the opening rooms. The six lettered blue balls are spread across multiple areas rather than being placed beside the gate. When you find a staff, test it on suspicious ice, gray floor circles and large frozen blocks.

Direct puzzle hint
The six letters are C, Y, G, N, U and S. Their intended word is CYGNUS. The gate’s holes accept the balls in that spelling, not in the order you happen to collect them.

Ending hint
The silver eagle is sufficient for the normal conclusion. For the best conclusion, take that eagle to the pentagram in the golden structure first; it changes to gold. Only then return it to the center of the letter gate and pull the lever.
What you need to track
Cygnus Gate is an item-dependency puzzle: an object obtained in one room unlocks the next room or chest. Keep a written inventory, because the game gives little explicit indication of which key or ball should be used next.

Guide screenshots and room labels are not completely consistent, so rely on visual landmarks and the directional arrows. A hidden zoom hotspot or a transition at the edge of a scene can matter more than the name assigned to that room.

Opening rooms: collect the first balls
Inspect the second platform
- Begin in the opening area and examine the platforms from left to right.
- Zoom in on the second block or platform from the right. Take the blue ball marked G.
- Search the nearby platform and chest area again until you find the blue ball marked S. It is easy to miss if you only click the most prominent object.
Take the yellow ball
- Look around the sign and the objects beside it.
- Collect the yellow ball. Do not try to force it into the letter gate; it is a tool for obtaining the thunder staff.
- Keep both blue balls in your inventory while moving into the side room.
Side room: obtain and use the thunder staff
Place the yellow ball
- In the side room, identify the two pedestal positions.
- Put the yellow ball on the inner-left pedestal.
- The pedestal releases the thunder staff. Pick it up before leaving.
Break the obstruction
- Find the gray circle on the floor or the ice blocking the nearby route.
- Use the thunder staff on that obstruction. If nothing happens, zoom in until the cursor is over the circle or frozen surface rather than the surrounding floor.
- Collect the blue N ball from the broken ice.
- Search the nearby hole and take the blue U ball as well. These two letters are separate pickups even though the staff action exposes them in the same section.
The staff is an environmental tool, not a gate key. If you still see an intact gray circle or ice patch, the room is not yet cleared.

Underwater or ship area: find Y and the rose-room items
Reach the structure
- Use the newly opened hole to transition into the underwater or ship-like area.
- Explore around the structure’s doors and nearby walls. The blue Y ball is positioned near those doors.
- Take the Y ball and check both sides of the doorway before moving on; the scene can make the ball blend into the structure.
Search the rose room
- Continue into the rose room and inspect its decorative objects individually.
- Collect the scorpion statue item.
- Find and take the silver key.
Do not return to the gate yet. The silver key and the statue item are needed to open the chest sequence that provides the final blue letter.
Silver chest and picture frame: unlock the gold key
Open the silver chest
- Return to the area containing the silver chest.
- Use the silver key on that chest. A key only works on its matching chest, so the gold chest must wait.
- Take the second statue item from inside.
Complete the frame
- Locate the picture frame that accepts the two statue pieces.
- Place both statue items into the frame, including the scorpion piece from the rose room and the piece from the silver chest.
- When the frame sequence is complete, access to the gold key becomes available. Pick up the key.
If the frame does not react, verify that both pieces are in your inventory. The silver key itself is not one of the frame components.

Gold chest and the six-letter gate
Get the C ball
- Go to the gold chest with the gold key.
- Use the key to open it and collect the blue ball marked C.
- You should now have all six lettered balls: C, Y, G, N, U and S.
Spell CYGNUS
- Return to the large letter gate.
- Place the balls into its six holes from left to right so they read C-Y-G-N-U-S.
- Check every socket if the gate remains closed. A correct collection with one ball in the wrong position will not satisfy the mechanism.
The word is the game’s central confirmation that the exploration chain is complete. Placing the balls does not by itself select the ending; the eagle and the lever determine that outcome later.

Find the red ball
- Explore the snowflake area after opening the letter gate route.
- Take the red ball. It is distinct from the six blue letter balls and is used on a pedestal.
Use the inner-right pedestal
- Find the paired pedestal arrangement used earlier for the yellow ball.
- Place the red ball on the inner-right pedestal.
- Collect the fire staff released by the pedestal.
The yellow and red balls are therefore progression switches: yellow produces thunder, while red produces fire. Neither belongs in the six-hole word gate.

Free the silver eagle
- Search for the large ice block in the fire-staff section.
- Use the fire staff directly on that block. Target the ice itself; clicking the background will not consume the action.
- When the ice melts, take the silver eagle statue.
If the block remains frozen, confirm that the red ball is on the inner-right pedestal and that you picked up the resulting fire staff. The thunder staff cannot replace it for this step.
Choose an ending
Normal ending: silver eagle
- Carry the silver eagle back to the letter gate.
- Place it in the center of the gate.
- Activate the gate mechanism as prompted to receive the normal ending.
Best ending: gold eagle
- Do not place the silver eagle in the gate yet.
- Take it to the pentagram in the golden structure.
- Use the eagle on the pentagram. The statue changes from silver to gold.
- Return to the letter gate and put the gold eagle in its center.
- Pull the lever. This sequence produces the best ending.
The upgrade is irreversible for that playthrough’s final choice: once you want the best result, visit the pentagram before inserting the statue into the gate.
If you are stuck
A ball seems to be missing
- Recheck the second platform from the right and the gold chest for G and S.
- Inspect the broken-ice area and nearby hole for N and U after using thunder.
- Search around the ship-like structure’s doors for Y.
- Open the gold chest only after completing the picture-frame sequence; C is inside.
The staff does nothing
- Make sure the correct colored ball is on the correct inner pedestal.
- Zoom in on the target: the gray floor circle, ice obstruction or large ice block may have a narrow hotspot.
- Check that you are using thunder for the gray or ordinary ice obstruction and fire for the large ice block containing the eagle.
The gate will not finish
- Read the six sockets from left to right and verify CYGNUS exactly.
- Remember that the eagle is a separate final object; the letter balls alone do not trigger an ending.
- For the best ending, confirm that the eagle visibly became gold at the pentagram before you return to the gate.
