Dan Houser’s announced post-Rockstar game is a separate project from Grand Theft Auto VI. At Absurd Ventures, the company he founded, he is writing and creative-directing an open-world science-fiction action-adventure set in the A Better Paradise universe. He says he did not write GTA VI or develop its characters. The projects share a prominent former Rockstar co-founder, but the confirmed information points to different stories, studios and creative directions.
What game is Dan Houser making after Rockstar?
Absurd Ventures’ best-confirmed game project is an AAA open-world science-fiction action-adventure set in A Better Paradise, the studio’s sci-fi thriller universe. In an August 6, 2025 announcement, publisher Smilegate said it would publish the game globally and provide development funding. Houser is writing and creative-directing with the studio team.

The announcement called the project in early development at that time. It did not give a distinct game title, platforms or a release schedule. Absurd Ventures’ A Better Paradise page also describes the video game as in development, but does not establish a platform or date. There is no confirmed gameplay footage or launch window in these announcements, so specifics beyond the broad genre and setting remain unknown.
Houser described the project as a chance to take players somewhere different. That is his stated creative intention, not evidence of particular mechanics or a judgment about the finished game.

Is Dan Houser involved in GTA VI?
No authorship or character-development role for Houser in GTA VI is established. In an IGN interview reported by PC Gamer on September 29, 2025, Houser said GTA VI would not be a story he wrote or a set of characters he developed. He added that he expected the game to be exciting and great; that is his opinion, not an independent assessment.
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page presents Jason and Lucia and a criminal conspiracy in Leonida, with Vice City among the featured locations. Those are confirmed story and setting details; unshown mechanics and online speculation should not be treated as confirmed features.
