Dandilord is the best Pal for Planting in Palworld 1.0 if you can reach its late-game World Tree encounter. It is the only Pal listed with Planting Level 8. For most players, however, Lyleen (Planting 7, Gathering 6) or Ophydia (Planting 7, Watering 5) will be more practical because they can be obtained earlier or through breeding. A productive plantation needs more than the highest Planting number: watering, gathering and transporting determine whether crops are actually harvested and stored.
Quick verdict: which Planting Pal should you use?
| Player situation | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum Planting level and late-game base | Dandilord | The sole Planting 8 Pal in the reviewed Palworld 1.0 data; encountered as a World Tree boss and suited to an established endgame base. |
| Strong general farm worker | Lyleen | Planting 7 plus Gathering 6, so it can contribute after crops mature. The cited guide describes a level 58 wild spawn. |
| Breeding route or planting-water combination | Ophydia | Planting 7 and Watering 5; the ranking guide presents it as a practical breedable option. |
| Reliable, continuous production | A mixed roster | Planting starts the crop cycle, while Watering, Gathering and Transporting keep the plantation moving. |
These recommendations come from secondary guides covering Palworld 1.0 and version 1.0.3 data, not from an official Pocketpair ranking. Pal statistics can change after an update, so check the suitability icons on the individual Pal before committing a permanent base slot.

Planting suitability covers sowing seeds and tending crops at plantations. A Planting worker does not complete the entire production loop by itself. Once a seed is planted, another Pal normally needs Watering suitability to irrigate the plot. When the crop is ready, a Pal with Gathering collects it, and a Transporting worker moves the produce to a chest or other storage. If one Pal has several of these skills, it can cover multiple stages, but assigning specialists usually keeps each job from being abandoned when another task appears.
The four jobs to plan together
- Planting: places seeds and initiates the crop cycle.
- Watering: irrigates plantations so crops can progress.
- Gathering: harvests mature crops.
- Transporting: carries harvested items to storage, preventing piles of produce from sitting beside the field.
Planting level is therefore the right first filter, not the only filter. A level 8 worker with no available watering or gathering support can produce less food than a level 7 Pal in a balanced roster.

How many Pals can Plant?
Palworld Hub reported on August 13, 2026 that 46 Pals have Planting Level 1 or higher and only six reach Level 6 or higher. PalProof, whose list was checked against Palworld v1.0.3 on August 25, 2026, likewise reported that 46 of the game’s 299 Pals can plant at a base. PalProof identifies Dandilord as the only Planting 8 Pal.
Those counts are guide-publisher readings of game data rather than official Pocketpair statistics or independent laboratory measurements. They are useful for choosing among workers, but a later balance patch could change the total, a Pal’s suitability or its availability.
Dandilord: the highest Planting specialist
Why it ranks first
Dandilord has Planting Level 8, the highest value reported in the reviewed 1.0 lists. No other listed Pal reaches that level, making it the straightforward answer to “Which Pal has the highest Planting?” Its additional base work skills also make it more flexible than a single-purpose worker, although the exact value of those skills depends on how your base is staffed.
The access trade-off
Dandilord is a World Tree boss. That makes it a late-game target rather than a sensible first plantation worker. The encounter assumes that you already have a combat-ready team, suitable equipment and a base capable of supporting a high-end capture project. Do not delay food production while waiting for it: use an obtainable Planting 5–7 Pal, then replace or reassign that worker once Dandilord is secured.
When Dandilord is worth a slot
- You are operating several plantations and want the highest listed Planting suitability.
- Your watering, gathering and transport jobs are already covered by other workers.
- You can reach the World Tree boss consistently rather than treating Dandilord as an immediate early-game objective.
Lyleen: the best broad farm alternative
Lyleen is listed at Planting Level 7 and Gathering Level 6. That combination is valuable because the Pal can begin the crop cycle and help collect mature produce, reducing the number of dedicated workers required for a compact base. The ranking guide describes Lyleen as a level 58 wild spawn, so obtaining one is also a high-level task rather than an early tutorial step.
Choose Lyleen when you want a strong non-top Planting Pal and prefer a worker that contributes at harvest time. It is especially attractive for a base where watering and transporting are already reliable but gathering is a bottleneck. Its Planting value is one level below Dandilord’s, yet the secondary Gathering 6 skill can make the overall farm easier to staff.

Ophydia: the breeding and watering option
Ophydia is also listed at Planting Level 7, with Watering Level 5. The combination lets it start crops and support irrigation, which is useful when you are building a roster through breeding or want fewer separate workers around the plantations. The guide presenting the ranking calls Ophydia a practical breedable pick.
Ophydia is the logical choice when your immediate problem is watering rather than harvesting. It does not replace a dedicated Gatherer or Transporter in a large farm, but it can keep a smaller operation running while you develop a more specialized workforce. Because breeding outcomes depend on the parents available to you, treat “breedable” as an access route, not a guarantee that every player can produce Ophydia immediately.
Planting levels 6 and below: how to choose before the top three
The reviewed lists identify six Pals at Planting Level 6 or higher, meaning three additional high-tier choices exist beyond Dandilord, Lyleen and Ophydia. The supplied rankings do not establish a universally agreed order for those remaining Pals, so selecting one should follow your base’s actual shortage instead of an assumed list position.
Use this decision order
- Check Planting level. Prefer the highest suitability you can obtain without stalling progression.
- Check access. A catchable or breedable Pal available now is more useful than a stronger boss locked behind late-game content.
- Check the missing secondary job. Gathering helps with harvests; Watering helps crop growth; Transporting keeps storage clear.
- Check the work schedule. If your base needs attention at night, favor a Pal whose availability and behavior match that schedule.
- Check work-speed evidence. Use a consistent data source when comparing speed, and do not treat two guides’ tie-breakers as an official formula.
A lower-level Planting worker can be the correct temporary choice if it arrives dozens of in-game days earlier than a level 7 or 8 candidate. Replace it when the stronger Pal becomes realistic.

Both reviewed Palworld 1.0 guides use Planting suitability as their primary ranking criterion, but they break ties differently. Palworld Hub uses rarity and Paldeck number. PalProof uses base work speed, then Paldeck number. PalProof also explains that suitability level is a species property in its dataset, not a random value inherited by an individual hatchling.
That distinction matters when reading tier lists. A list that places one Planting 7 Pal above another may be expressing a chosen tie-breaker, not revealing a hidden in-game rule. For a practical decision, compare the following in order:
Rank #3
- Planting suitability level.
- Whether the Pal is available at your current story and exploration stage.
- Useful secondary suitability, especially Watering or Gathering.
- Whether it can work during the hours your base is active.
- Base work speed, when the same data source reports it consistently.
- Partner skills, species availability and upgrades from the Condenser or Paldeck handbook.
PC Gamer’s 2026 coverage also frames Dandilord and Ophydia through access and utility rather than Planting number alone. That is editorial advice, not an official developer formula, so keep it separate from the suitability data.
Build a plantation roster that does not stall
Small or early farm
Start with one Planting-capable Pal, one Watering-capable Pal and a way to move items to storage. If a single worker covers two jobs, assign it only when the second task will not interrupt planting at the wrong time. A compact farm benefits more from predictable coverage than from chasing the maximum number immediately.
Mid-game farm
Move toward dedicated Planting and Watering workers, then add Gathering when mature crops begin accumulating beside the plots. Lyleen is particularly useful here because its Planting 7 and Gathering 6 combination can cover two important stages. Ophydia can fill the same broad role when watering is the limiting step and breeding is your preferred acquisition path.
Late-game production base
Use Dandilord as the planting specialist once you can obtain it, while assigning separate watering, gathering and transport workers. Several plantations create enough simultaneous tasks that asking one Pal to perform every stage increases the chance that a job remains unattended. A dedicated transporter is especially important when storage containers are far from the fields.

Planting suitability alone does not tell you how consistently a Pal will work. Compare whether the candidate remains available during your base’s active night period, how often it is distracted by another suitability, and whether its path between the plantation and storage is clear. The reviewed guides do not provide one standardized nighttime-work metric for every candidate, so avoid claiming that a particular Pal is universally fastest without matching conditions.

PC Gamer recommends considering partner skills, species availability and the effects of Condenser and handbook upgrades. These systems can change the value of an individual Pal without changing the species’ listed Planting level. Before investing resources, decide whether you are improving a temporary worker or a Pal you expect to keep for the endgame.

Step-by-step: choosing and assigning your Planting Pal
- Count your plantations. More plots increase the value of dedicated specialists.
- Inspect the current bottleneck. Watch whether plots lack seeds, water, harvesting or transport.
- Choose the best available tier. Target Dandilord for late game; use Lyleen or Ophydia when their access and secondary skills fit better.
- Capture or breed the candidate. Confirm the individual’s suitability icons after obtaining it; species-level lists describe the expected work category, but your base still needs a valid assignment.
- Assign the Pal at the base terminal. Place it where the plantation task is available and remove competing jobs if planting is the priority.
- Add support workers. Provide Watering, Gathering and Transporting coverage before expanding the number of plots.
- Observe one complete crop cycle. If seeds, water, harvests or storage are backing up, change the roster rather than assuming a higher Planting number will solve every delay.
Common problems and fixes
“My Planting Pal is idle.”
Check that a plantation has seeds ready, that the Pal can reach the plot and that another base assignment is not taking priority. Move obstacles, reposition the plantation or temporarily remove conflicting workstations.
“Crops are planted but not progressing.”
Planting does not replace Watering. Add a watering-capable worker and make sure it can path to every plot. Ophydia’s Watering 5 is useful for this combined role, but a dedicated Waterer may be better when the farm is large.
“Harvested crops are lying on the ground.”
Add or reposition a Transporting worker and place storage closer to the plantations. Gathering and Transporting are separate needs; a Pal that harvests may not move the items afterward.

Use Lyleen, Ophydia or another accessible Planting Pal rather than delaying your farm. Dandilord’s World Tree boss status makes it a late-game upgrade, not a requirement for early production.
“Two tier lists disagree.”
Check which tie-breaker each list uses. Palworld Hub applies rarity and Paldeck number, while PalProof applies base work speed and then Paldeck number. Compare the underlying suitability and your access route instead of treating the displayed order as an official ranking.
Version and evidence caveat
The numerical claims here reflect Palworld 1.0 and v1.0.3 guide data identified as current in August 2026. Palworld Hub’s page was updated August 13, 2026; PalProof’s page says it was checked against v1.0.3 on August 25, 2026. Neither is an official Pocketpair patch note, and the opened material does not provide an official developer confirmation of the 46-Pal count or Dandilord’s rank. Recheck current in-game suitability after a later patch before rebuilding a large base around one species.
Bottom line
Pick Dandilord when you want the highest listed Planting level and can handle the World Tree boss. Pick Lyleen for Planting plus strong Gathering, or Ophydia when breeding access and Watering support matter more. For uninterrupted food production, the best answer is a coordinated roster: Planting starts the cycle, Watering sustains it, Gathering collects it and Transporting finishes the job.
