If the Blacksmith launcher stops responding, IRONMACE’s official support advice is to remove or uninstall the current launcher and download the latest version from the official Dark and Darker website. If that does not resolve it, IRONMACE’s Blacksmith Login guidance includes a Windows Internet Options check for SSL and TLS settings. The publisher presents these as its troubleshooting steps, not as a guaranteed fix.
“Stuck” can describe several different failures, and IRONMACE handles each one differently. Identify the exact message or the point where things stop before you try a fix.
Identify where the launcher gets stuck
Match your symptom to the row that describes it. The official advice differs for each one, and applying the wrong branch wastes time.

When the launcher has no response
IRONMACE’s Blacksmith Login article states: “For your convenience, remove/uninstall the current Blacksmith launcher and download the latest version from the official website.” Its Blacksmith Installation and Run article gives the same instruction for a nonresponsive launcher. Follow these steps in order.

- Close Blacksmith completely. If the window is frozen, end any remaining Blacksmith processes in Task Manager before uninstalling.
- Open Settings, go to Apps, then Installed apps, find Blacksmith, select it, and choose Uninstall.
- Download the latest Blacksmith launcher from the official Dark and Darker website, not from a third-party download site.
- Run the installer and sign in again.
If the launcher still does not respond, IRONMACE’s Blacksmith Login article gives this fallback: open Windows Internet Options, go to the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, uncheck SSL, and make sure TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3 are both checked. Leave TLS enabled. Disabling TLS is not part of IRONMACE’s guidance and would weaken the connection.
IRONMACE’s installation article also states that an unsupported PC may show “Error at hooking API.” Blacksmith’s support pages list Windows 10 64-bit or higher as the requirement, so a machine below that baseline is the first thing to rule out.
When the account message appears
Blacksmith signs in with an Ironmace account, which is separate from your Steam or Epic Games login. Support articles warn that Steam or Epic account details are not Ironmace credentials, so the email you use to sign in to those platforms will not necessarily work in Blacksmith.
“No account associated with this email”
This means no Ironmace account is registered under the address you entered. Check for typos first. If you believe you have an account, try any other email address you may have used when you created it. Do not assume the Steam or Epic address will match.

“Incorrect password”
IRONMACE recommends rechecking the password you typed. If you cannot confirm it, use the password reset option. The game page also notes that email verification may be required when signing in to Blacksmith, so check your inbox, including spam folders, for a verification message.
When the server error appears
For “Server error. Please try again,” IRONMACE’s support page says the cause may be scheduled maintenance, or a connection that antivirus software, your internet provider, or a VPN is blocking or restricting. IRONMACE directs players to its official Discord for maintenance and update schedules.
Work through these checks:
- Check the official Discord for a maintenance or update notice. If one is active, wait for it to finish rather than reinstalling.
- Temporarily disable a VPN and retry. If the login then works, the VPN is the likely cause.
- Check whether your antivirus or firewall is blocking Blacksmith, and add an exception if you are comfortable doing so.
- If the connection is the problem, contact your internet provider. IRONMACE’s support page states: “We suggest you check with your ISP regarding this issue as we cannot provide support when your connection is causing the problem.”
Reinstalling the launcher does not address a maintenance outage or a blocked connection, so skip that step if this is the message you see.
When an install or update fails
Use the exact error text, because each code has its own branch in IRONMACE’s support articles.

Game still shows Install after installation
IRONMACE says the installation may have failed or the files may be corrupted. Completely delete the Blacksmith launcher and download the latest version from the official site, as described above.
Zero-size download
IRONMACE suggests this is usually a temporary connection problem. Wait and try the download again later.
Update error 0
IRONMACE links this code to unstable network conditions. Stabilize the connection, such as by moving closer to your router or switching networks, and retry.
“Failed to Update … (lastError:403)”
A 403 error may mean antivirus software or your internet provider is blocking the download. Check your security software’s logs and allow Blacksmith, or contact your provider.

Update errors 1100 to 1102
These mean another program is using a file Blacksmith needs. IRONMACE recommends closing that program, rebooting the PC, and retrying the update.
Update error 1103
This indicates insufficient disk space. Free enough space on the drive where Blacksmith is installed, then retry.

If pressing Play does not start the game, IRONMACE says the game may not have installed properly. Use the repair tool:
- Open the Blacksmith launcher.
- Click the gear button on Blacksmith.
- Click “Scan and Repair” and let it finish.
- Press Play again.
IRONMACE’s abnormal-file error article (updated July 9, 2025) gives the same gear menu path for Blacksmith users. This is a file-integrity fix for a game that fails after login. It does not address a launcher that freezes before you reach the Play button.

Check your system and escalate
Blacksmith’s support pages list Windows 10 64-bit or higher. The Dark and Darker game page lists Windows 10 and 11 x64. If your machine is older or uses a 32-bit operating system, that is the likely cause of the failure, and the reinstall will not change it.
If none of the branches above matches your error, use IRONMACE’s official support portal and include the exact message, the error code if one appears, your Windows version, and whether you use a VPN or security software.
What the official guidance does not establish
IRONMACE’s support articles do not publish success rates or prevalence figures for these issues, so there is no measured number showing how often the reinstall or the Internet Options change resolves a stuck launcher. The login and installation articles were last updated September 12, 2024, the Play troubleshooting article August 20, 2024, and the abnormal-file article July 9, 2025. Launcher software and service status change, so check the official support pages and Discord before you start if the steps above do not match what you see.
