At least one player had unlocked the Dark Matter Multiplayer camo in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 by October 27, 2024. Verified creator Braderz published a video that day titled “I UNLOCKED the NEW DARK MATTER CAMO in BLACK OPS 6!” and described it as the finale of a “Road to Dark Matter.” That establishes an unlock by that date, not that Braderz was the first player in the world to earn it.
What the October 2024 claim establishes
The video is evidence that a player had reached Dark Matter by October 27, 2024. Its title and description do not independently prove a world-first claim, nor do they establish how many other players had already earned the camo. Braderz’s video.

How Dark Matter fits into BO6 camo progression
Activision divides weapon camo progression into three broad stages: nine Military camos for each weapon, two weapon-specific Special camos per mode, and Mastery camos. Dark Matter is the Multiplayer Mastery Camo. Zombies and Warzone have separate final Mastery camos: Nebula and Abyss, respectively. Activision’s progression overview.
How the launch Multiplayer unlock route worked
- Earn the earlier camos. The progression system begins with that weapon’s Military camos, followed by its mode-specific Special camos.
- Complete the Mastery tiers in order. The launch Multiplayer sequence was Gold, Diamond, Dark Spine, then Dark Matter.
- Unlock access to each weapon’s Dark Matter challenge. In Activision’s October 2024 launch explanation, completing Dark Spine on 33 launch weapons opened the Dark Matter challenge for those weapons.
- Complete the challenge for each weapon you want to use. Opening access to the Dark Matter challenge was not the same as earning the camo on every weapon. Do weapons need to be max level?
No. Activision says camo challenges are available as soon as you have a weapon, with no weapon-level requirement. The specific challenge still has to be completed; skipping weapon leveling does not skip the camo objectives. Activision Support.

Does the 33-weapon requirement still apply?
The figure of 33 belongs to Activision’s launch-roster explanation from October 2024. It describes how many launch weapons needed Dark Spine before their Dark Matter challenges became available. It should not be treated as a confirmed current requirement for a post-launch roster with later weapon additions; the cited sources do not establish how those additions affect the present challenge count.
Activision’s January 2025 Season 02 note discusses Special Camo equip access and the prerequisite of five Military camos before equipping Special camos. That note does not say the Dark Matter Mastery sequence changed. Season 02 patch notes.
