The End of Fire also has an alternate final scene if you attack the Fire Keeper, so some guides count four outcomes. Your final interaction chooses the ending, but the Usurpation route depends on earlier, missable quest steps.
How many endings are in Dark Souls 3?
There are three named endings. Two are selected at the end by interacting with the First Flame in different quest circumstances; the other requires summoning the Fire Keeper. Attacking her during her final scene produces a variation of The End of Fire, not an ending consistently named separately by guides.

| Outcome | Preparation | Final action | Missability |
|---|---|---|---|
| To Link the First Flame | No special ending quest required | Interact with the First Flame | Default outcome when the Londor conditions have not changed the interaction |
| The End of Fire | Find the Eyes of a Fire Keeper and give them to her | Use her summon sign by the final bonfire | Requires an optional-area item and a separate final choice |
| Alternate End of Fire scene | Same preparation as The End of Fire | Attack the Fire Keeper at the last moment you can act in her scene | A scene variation; not consistently treated as a separate named ending |
| The Usurpation of Fire | Complete the Londor quest route involving Yoel, Yuria, and Anri | Interact with the First Flame | Missable; healing the Dark Sigils can void the route |
These are route and interaction distinctions, not a definitive moral ranking or canonical interpretation of the endings. For the outcome itself, see the Dark Souls Wiki’s ending overview and the Dark Souls III Wiki’s endings page.
How to get To Link the First Flame
- Defeat Soul of Cinder.
- Interact with the First Flame at the final bonfire, provided the Londor ending conditions have not changed this interaction.
This is the default route. Finding the Eyes of a Fire Keeper does not force The End of Fire; the Fire Keeper’s summon sign is a distinct choice at the end.

How to get The End of Fire
- Reach the optional area Untended Graves and find the Eyes of a Fire Keeper there.
- Return to Firelink Shrine and give the Eyes to the Fire Keeper.
- After defeating Soul of Cinder, choose the Fire Keeper’s summon sign near the final bonfire rather than interacting with the bonfire directly.
- Let the scene play out without attacking her to see the named ending.
The ending’s key decision is the summon sign. Giving the Eyes to the Fire Keeper makes that choice available but does not select it for you.
How to see the alternate End of Fire scene
Follow the same preparation and final choice as The End of Fire. During the Fire Keeper’s final scene, attack her at the last moment when the player can still act. Guides differ on whether to call this a separate ending; it is more precisely described as an alternate scene or variation.

Spoilers: How to get The Usurpation of Fire
This ending requires completing the Londor route involving Yoel, Yuria, and Anri before the final interaction. It is the most missable outcome because several NPC quest conditions must be preserved.
- Accept Yoel of Londor’s service and obtain his five Dark Sigils through the route’s progression.
- Continue the related questline with Yuria and Anri, following their required steps rather than treating the ending as a final-bonfire-only choice.
- Do not heal the Dark Sigils: healing them is a known way to void the route.
- After defeating Soul of Cinder, interact with the First Flame to trigger the ending if the quest conditions remain intact.
The Dark Souls III Wiki quest reference documents the NPC route and its dependencies. Because the individual triggers are easy to miss, consult its quest entries as you progress rather than waiting until the final area to check whether the route is still available.
