How the gameplay direction differs
Dawn of War IV foregrounds mass battles and base-building
Warhammer Community describes IV as a return to the series’ “mass-battle, base-building roots” and points to a “brutal, expanded Sync Kill system.” That signals the design direction the developers say they are pursuing. It does not confirm how building, army control or combat will feel in the released game.
Dawn of War III foregrounds elite units and spectacle
III’s official Steam description puts the spotlight on collectible elite squads with special abilities, devastating faction abilities, colossal battles and giant war machines. That is a different emphasis in the store copy, not proof that III lacks base-building or that IV will play more like any particular earlier entry.
Factions: IV adds two announced forces and leaves Eldar off its lineup
III’s campaign features Space Marines, Orks and Eldar. IV’s announced factions are Blood Ravens Space Marines, Orks, Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus. Adeptus Mechanicus is making its series debut in IV; Eldar are not listed among IV’s four announced launch factions.

IV’s conflict is set on Kronus, a planet the official trailer update says was first seen in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade (Warhammer Community trailer update). A larger announced roster alone does not establish greater strategic depth or better balance.
Campaigns: four linked faction stories versus alternating missions
IV’s four campaigns connect to one story
Deep Silver says each of IV’s four mechanically distinct factions has a unique campaign, with all four feeding a single overarching narrative. Official Steam news announces 70+ missions playable solo or with a friend. That is an announced mission count, not a measure of campaign hours. The publisher also calls the Kronus conflict the series’ “largest campaign ever,” but does not provide a measurement or baseline for that comparison.

III alternates between three forces
III’s official store description presents a campaign that switches among Space Marines, Orks and Eldar. The available descriptions establish a difference in structure; they do not establish which campaign takes longer, or which is more enjoyable.
Modes and multiplayer
Deep Silver lists competitive multiplayer, Last Stand and Skirmish for IV, and says many modes support co-op as well as single-player. KING Art Games and Deep Silver’s Steam news also names Annihilation and Domination as selectable matchmaking modes. These are announced features; they do not reveal the game’s eventual player population, balance or long-term support.

III’s Steam page lists online PvP. Relic’s 2017 announcements document later additions including multiplayer maps, Elite units, skins and custom-game options. Those post-launch changes show that features were added after release, but the announcements do not establish a direct comparison with IV’s eventual support.
